  • Patent number: 8279844
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for providing interactive voice response (IVR) applications executable on individual communication devices. Unlike current IVR applications that run from centralized voice servers, the present invention describes a system in which communication units initiate communication with a multimedia server over a data network such as the Internet and download extensible copies of voice response applications. The communication device then runs the voice response applications, thus, locally administering the voice messages and accepting the voice or data input from a user. The multimedia server may preferably divide the application software into executable segments to accommodate communication devices with limited memory resources, such as mobile phones and hand-held computers. The system and method may implement different level of complexity by breaking application functionality into modules and the sub-modules.

  • Patent number: 8254371
Abstract: A server, upon receiving a request to complete a call over a packet-switched network, looks up an address on the packet-switched network on a local table. If the local table does not contain a matching address, the server asks a routing server to identify a receiving server address. The routing server identifies a suitable address and sends a message to the originating server containing the address. The routing server may consider such factors as the volume of calls currently being handled by various potential receiving servers in selecting a receiving server. The receiving server then receives, via the packet-switched network, a message requesting a telephone connection to a second telephone device. Before completing the connection to the second telephone device, information in the message representing the address of the device on the packet-switched network that originated the message is identified. The address information is compared to selected predetermined addresses for permitted origins of the message.

Abstract: The present invention is a computer system and method that manages connections between one or more data network interfaces and one or more phone interfaces. A manager process, running on a computer system having both data and phone network interfaces, receives one or more telephone calls from one or more users over one of the phone interfaces and than accesses one or more profiles associated with each of the users. These profiles have one or more service identifiers and one or more interactive response agent (IRA) identifiers associated with the respective user. A menu of the service identifiers is presented to the user. The system then looks up an agent address of one of the IRAs that is associated with the service identifier selected by the user from the menu and establishes a session with the associated IRA. Having done this a two-way communication with the associated IRA occurs during the session.

Abstract: A method and apparatus turns a typical home telephone system into a platform for delivery of web based content and services. The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a broadband enabled telephone system for the home and a series of web servers that collect, package, and deliver personalized content and services to all of the telephone handsets throughout the home. With this end-to-end solution, any information or services available via the web can be delivered through a broadband enabled telephone system. Through the web, each member of a family can build a profile which defines what information and services they want available through the handset. In addition, each handset can be dynamically personalized for any family member. The color screens on the handsets become windows through which an individual can view and interact with a broad range of content and services. The audio channels thus become an extension of the voice based services, such as messaging and voice chat.

Abstract: A communication system, for functioning without the use of dedicated lines or the Internet so as to ensure communication speed, communication quality, and communication trouble countermeasures, including a communication network and domain name server. The domain name server includes a domain name tree with a country number of a telephone number as a level 2 domain name of the domain name tree, and the domain name server receives, from a terminal, a telephone number of a destination terminal. Furthermore, based on the telephone number of the destination terminal, the domain name server (i) seeks out, in the domain name tree, an Integrated Information Communication System (ICS) user address of the destination terminal, and (ii) sends the ICS user address to the terminal, such that the communication system receives, from the terminal, the ICS user address as a destination address, and sends the ICS user frame to the destination terminal.

Abstract: An automatic frequency hopping method is provided for use with a wireless device. The wireless device could transmit data in two or more communication frequency bands. According to the counts of successful data transmission in respective communication frequency bands, the reasons of communication failure are analyzed. According to the reasons of communication failure, the automatic frequency hopping method discriminates whether a frequency hopping procedure is performed. Since the frequency hopping procedure is performed when a proper frequency hopping condition is satisfied, the automatic frequency hopping method could achieve the power-saving purpose and avoid the wireless communication interference with other wireless devices.

Abstract: A method is performed by one or more network elements for voice-over-IP (VoIP) communications. The method includes receiving a request from a first mobile device to invite a second mobile device to participate in a VoIP session. The second device may be identified in the request by a network identifier. The network identifier is related to a mobile IP (MIP) address of the second device and a second IP address. An invitation is sent to the MIP address of the second device which may include a MIP address of the first device and a first IP address. A response to the invitation may be received from the second device. The response may be modified to include a first IP header that includes the MIP address of the second device and a second IP header to include the second IP address. The modified response is forwarded to the first device. After receipt of the modified response, the first device is configured to establish an IP connection for VoIP communication with the second device.

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product thereof for enabling an Internet extension to ring a conventional extension are disclosed. The apparatus comprises an SIP proxy and an RTP relay. The SIP proxy receives a calling request from the Internet extension, substitutes an exchange number for a conventional extension number comprised in the calling request, and transmits the substituted calling request to a gateway, so that the substituted calling request can be transmitted to a voice automatic machine via a telephone exchange. The RTP relay transmits the conventional extension number in DTMF format to the gateway. Thus, this invention enables the Internet extension to ring the conventional extension with lower hardware costs.

Abstract: Provided is a system and method for sending a “voice message” to a recipient without any intervention of a network. A user initiates a Short Voice Message (SVM) service (or short voice messaging) function and records a voice message within a device. The user sends the recorded voice message through a normal voice call. During a call setup, the recipient decodes a received call setup message and recognizes the call as a voice message. The recipient sets parameters for recording the voice message. Upon completion of the call setup, the user sends the recorded voice message directly to the recipient. The recipient records the voice message and stores the voice message in an inbox. Thus, the user can be provided with an option for directly sending a voice message without text typing or a text-to-voice conversion technique.
