  • Patent number: 8695103
Abstract: Recording data has content data and navigation control data to enable a legitimate player to navigate the content data. The recording data has a content data set and a spurious data set that is difficult to distinguish from the content data set but will ignored by a legitimate player. The content data is associated with the content data set and the spurious data set. The spurious data set may be associated with control data that inhibit playing or correct playing of the content data. A ghost structure such as a ghost video title set my be provided by causing information in at least one of the video title set information, video manager information and the volume information file structure to reference a non-existent video title set or not reference an existing video title set. The recording medium may be an optical disc such as a DVD or its precursors.

Abstract: A switcher device comprises a multiplexer coupled in-between at least one input and output cards. The multiplexer detects the presence of an event signal from an activated sink. In response to the detection of the event signal, a processor changes an address of an HDCP receiver from a first address to a second address for enabling the at least one source to authenticate with the input card and enabling the output card to authenticate with the at least one sink for security protocol encryption. In response to the non-detection of the event signal, the processor changes the address of an HDCP receiver from the second address to the first address for disabling the at least one source from initiating a first authentication with the input card, therefore the output card also does not attempt to initiate a second authentication with the at least one sink for security protocol encryption.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method for providing a plurality of receivers with conditional access to broadcast services using a simplified means for managing the control messages required by such conditional access schemes. The method involves providing all information which will allow a registered receiver having the necessary decryption key to access the services without having any prior rights loaded locally. A management center keeps a register of all subscribed receivers, including a list of services to which the receiver is subscribed, and encrypts the services using control words encrypted by the necessary keys. Control messages comprising the control words for decryption are provided within a special channel to which the receiver has permanent access, the special channel being a different one from channels used for broadcasting audio/video services.

Abstract: When a viewer views content, it is reproduced by a reproduction procedure depending on a dynamic condition set in the content. Here, a content object data input unit obtains an externally-input content object. The content object is stored in a content object data retention unit, if necessary. The content object includes a reproduction rule and a content data. A reproduction rule evaluation and execution unit obtains the reproduction rule in the content object and performs processing in accordance with the reproduction rule. The reproduction unit reproduces a reproducible data specified by the reproduction rule evaluation and execution unit. Abstract: A method for securing intellectual property includes establishing contact between an IP server and a client. At least two component codes are shared and pre-stored in both the player and the server prior to ordering the intellectual property. The IP server accepts an order for an intellectual property product from the client. The IP server creates a shared private key based on the pre-stored shared component codes and an additional shared component code at the time the intellectual property product is ordered. The shared private key is not distributed to the player software. The IP server encrypts the intellectual property product with the created shared private key prior to distribution to the client. The intellectual property product further comprises content data and rights data in digital form. The IP server electronically distributes the intellectual property product to the client in encrypted form without the shared private key.

  • Patent number: 8619993
Abstract: A system and method of providing content protection for OMA Broadcast smartcard profiles. When an electronic device has a content item for encryption, the device generates a random number. The electronic device then transmits a content encryption key request message, including the random number and a service encryption key identifier, to a smartcard, which then responds with a a content encryption key response message. The content encryption key response message includes the random number and a content encryption key. The electronic device can then use the content encryption key to manage the encryption of the content item. The electronic device stores random number, service key identifier and encrypted content item into a certain file format. The electronic device sends again content encryption key request at the time of rendering. The content encryption key returned by the content encryption key response message is used for the decryption of the stored content item.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for enhancing security of communications. The apparatus comprises a security processing unit, a data processing unit, a cross-layer watermarking unit, and optionally a smart antenna processor. The security processing unit generates a token/key to be used in watermarking and sends a node security policy to other components. The data processing unit generates user data. The cross-layer watermarking unit includes at least one of Layer-2/3, Layer-1 and Layer-0. Each layer performs a different scheme or degree of watermarking. The cross-layer watermarking unit embeds the token/key into the user data transmission on at least one of the layers selectively in accordance with a security policy.

  • Patent number: 8620018
Abstract: A digital watermark embedding apparatus for embedding embedding information into an input signal having dimensions equal to or greater than N(N is an integer equal to or greater than 2). The apparatus generates an embedding sequence based on the embedding information, generates an N?1-dimensional pattern based on the embedding sequence, generates an N-dimensional embedding pattern by modulating a periodic signal according to a value on the N?1-dimensional pattern, and superimposes the embedding pattern in the input signal and outputs it. A digital watermark detection apparatus measures a component of a predetermined periodic signal in a direction of a dimension of the input signal to obtain an N?1-dimensional pattern, obtains a detection sequence from values of the N?1 dimensional pattern, and detects the embedded digital watermark based on a size of correlation value between the detection sequence and an embedding sequence.

Abstract: A gatekeeper device delegates an ability to access a resource to an access device by transmitting metadata, which includes access information for accessing the resource. The access device uses the metadata to retrieve the associated resource from a resource server. By transmitting the metadata in lieu of the resource, flexible use of the resources is implemented while enabling compliance with various restriction schemes. The system may condition the delegation or transfer of resource access on one or more factors, such as proximity between the gatekeeper device and the access devices. Using information about an access device, the resource server may optimize the resources for the receiving access device.
