Abstract: An imaging device integrating a photosensing array, at least one analog-to-digital converter, and an encryption circuit on a single substrate. An optical image can be directly converted into encrypted digital data prior to transmission the image off the chip.
Abstract: A compliance preserving method and device for access control of a standard compliant multimedia bitstream. The access control method performs selective encryption on information in the bitstream and then remaps the encrypted information into the bitstream, to provide a multimedia bitstream that is accessible to users with a proper key. The method can be applied to both error resilient mode and non-error resilient mode bitstreams. Additionally, the selective encryption method can be used with variable length code (VLC) codewords or fixed length code (FLC) codewords of a bitstream.

Abstract: Playing a data signal from an illegally produced data storage medium can be effectively disabled regardless of the type of storage medium so that copying can be prevented effectively at low cost. An encrypted data signal encrypting a copy-controlled data signal has superimposed thereto as a digital watermark identification data identifying the data signal as an encrypted signal. A data storage medium records this encrypted data signal, a data signal player reproduces the signal, and a data signal recorder records the signal.
Abstract: A method for data preparation and watermark insertion. The method includes the step of preparing the data at a first time by manipulating at least one set of the data characteristics for subsequent insertion of a first watermark. In a preferred embodiment of the method of the present invention the method further includes the step of inserting the first watermark by manipulating the set of data characteristics at a second time subsequent to the first time. In still yet another preferred embodiment of the method of the present invention, the method further includes the step of inserting a second watermark at a third time, before, during, or after the first time, by manipulating at least one set of the data characteristics. In a variation of the present invention a method for inserting a watermark into compressed data is provided. The compressed data has sets of data characteristics.

Abstract: Of I, P, and B pictures contained in an MPEG 2 data stream, only the I picture is subjected to encryption such as scramble processing. Scramble rule data used at that time is stored in the lead-in area of an optical disk. A software DVD decoder reads the scramble rule data stored in the lead-in area, and its certification control module descrambles only the I picture. With this processing, the CPU power required for descramble processing can be reduced, and motion picture data can be decoded by the software DVD decoder in real time.
Abstract: A system and method for use in a communication network that communicates with a plurality of digital content servers to provide selected digital data files, including video and audio files, for download to a subscriber device. A segmentation controller is provided for dividing the selected into segments. An encryption controller is provided for compressing and encrypting each of the segments with a selected one of a plurality of encryption keys. The segments are then transmitted at or above the average bandwidth of the communication network to a subscriber device. A copy of the decryption keys are transmitted to the subscriber device to enable playback of the selected file only with a current verification of the subscriber device.
Abstract: An image transmission apparatus for processing hierarchically encoded image information includes an accounting unit for performing accounting processing in correspondence with the resolution of the image information.
Abstract: This disclosure describes systems and methods for processing voice data for secure transmission and secure receipt over a network, such as the Internet. The systems and methods include the processing of analog voice and digital information, including conversion of a voice signal into digital information (or of digital information into a voice signal) and transmission of digital information representing voice data over a network. The analog-to-digital conversion (and digital-to-analog conversion) includes coding and decoding digital information according to voice coding techniques and encrypting and decrypting digital information according to encryption techniques. The transmission of the digital information includes creation of a secure voice frame.

Abstract: A method of compressing media content in which a first predetermined portion of a media content is compressed using a first data-based compression algorithm and inserted into a first portion of a data frame. A second predetermined portion of the media content is compressed using a second data-based compression algorithm and is inserted into a second portion of the data frame. The second predetermined portion of the media content is different from the first predetermined portion of the media content, and the second data-based compression algorithm is different from the first data-based compression algorithm. At least one of the first and second data-based compression algorithms is a private data-based compression algorithm. A plurality of data frames are generated and are made available for distribution, for example, by transmission over a computer network, such as the Internet.

Abstract: A method for securely storing analog or digital data on a data storage medium. An analog information signal is combined with a noise signal. The composite noise and information signal is encrypted with a key which is derived from the noise signal. The encrypted composite signal is compressed and then recorded on the data storage medium along with an encrypted value of the key. The storage medium data is read, decompressed, and decrypted using a decryption key derived from the stored encrypted key. The data is then converted to an analog signal and combined with a noise correction signal derived from said key to eliminate the noise signal added to the analog information signal before storing the signal on the data storage medium.
Abstract: An information processing system including a data input means (203, 208, 217, 219) for inputting or receiving data, a data compressing means (206) for compressing the data, a decompressing means (221) for decompressing the compressed data and a main storage (209, 222) is provided with an encrypting means (207) for encrypting the data and a decrypting means (220) for decrypting the encrypted data.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing simultaneous data compression and encryption both compresses and encrypts data in a single step. The invention includes a novel modeling method for use in conjunction with a coder, such as an arithmetic coder. The modeling method introduces randomness into the compression process, with the result that the output stream is secure.
Abstract: Arbitrary digital information is embedded within a stream of digital data, in a way that avoids detection by a casual observer and that allows a user to determine whether the digital data have been modified from their intended form. The embedded information may only be extracted as authorized an may be used to verify that the digital data stream has bee modified.
Abstract: Arbitrary digital information is embedded within a stream of digital data, in a way that avoids detection by a casual observer and that allows a user to determine whether the digital data have been modified from their intended form. The embedded information may only be extracted as authorized and may be used to verify that the original digital data stream has not been modified.
