  • Patent number: 9031330
Abstract: This invention provides an instantaneous method for a user or traveler to obtain a meaning of a symbol that is unfamiliar to said user. The symbol is captured in a format that is easily transmitted to a remote database server. Together with the symbol, the GPS coordinates of the location of the symbol must be sent to the server. The server performs an image matching search, and then uses the location information (GPS) to resolve multiple matches and to determine the meaning of the symbol and instantaneously transmits in the language of their choice the meaning to the user requesting the search.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for authenticating a user in a touchscreen environment. A first tier may be defined having at least one object, and a destination tier may be defined having at least one bin. An authentication-key may be registered, the authentication-key comprising a length defining a number of nodes and a correct sequence of nodes, each node specifying a movement of one object from the first tier to one bin of the destination tier. A user sequence of at least one touchscreen gestures is received, each gesture specifying that one object from the first tier should be moved to one bin of the destination tier. Access is permitted if the at least one touchscreen gestures corresponds to the length, the correct sequence, and the movement of the authentication-key.

Abstract: The present invention provides an encryption method in which the encryption device stores data to be encrypted received via the input/output interface in its own memory, converts the data to be encrypted in the memory into a format required by the output device and transmits the converted data to the output device via the management interface, and the output device outputs the received information. The present invention also provides an encryption device for implementing the above method. The encryption device determines whether confirmation information has been received from a management interface, encrypts the data to be encrypted in the memory if the answer is positive, while performs no encryption or prompting to input correct confirmation information if the answer is negative. With the present invention, the user is allowed to view the contents to be actually encrypted, thereby avoiding such a case as signature counterfeiting or tampering.

  • Patent number: 8484455
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing encryption and decryption of data transmitted on a computer implemented network, preferably user authentication identifier data, such as a password, at the point of entry into the user's computer. The systems and methods enable an end user to mentally select a marker from one of the randomly arranged elements on a first portion of a graphical image. A second portion of the graphical image includes an arrangement of possible elements of any individual authentication identifier sequence, and is positioned adjacent to the first portion. The systems and methods prompt a user to enter each element of the identifier by moving the selected marker and the first portion as necessary to substantially align the selected marker with a chosen element of the authentication identifier appearing on the outer portion. According to one embodiment, the image portions are concentric wheels. According to another embodiment, the image portions are arranged in adjacent rows.

  • Patent number: 8442221
Abstract: An image encryption method is described for encrypting an images using an encryption key. The encryption method includes dividing the image into pixel groups and shifting the location of the pixel groups according to an encryption key, and reordering the bits of the pixel values of the image according to an encryption key. Each shifting and reordering is done according to a shifting patterns that is defined by a shifting rule and the bit values of a bit sequence generated from the encryption key. The encrypted image is embedded in a cover image using less significant bits of the cover image for transmission or storage. Corresponding decryption method is also provided. Also described are various applications of image encryption methods in secure handling of digital images, including secure scanning, secure printing, secure ID scanning, secure check reading, remote picture ID verification, and remote document submitting and receiving systems.

Abstract: This invention relates generally to a method and apparatus, as implemented by a software program on a computer system, for digitally producing counterfeit-deterring scrambled or encoded indicia images. This method and system are capable of combining a source image with a latent image so the scrambled latent image is visible only when viewed through a special decoder lens. The digital processing allows different latent images to be encoded according to different parameters. Additionally, latent images might be encoded into single component colors of an original visible image, at various angles from each other.

  • Patent number: 8397275
Abstract: Time-varying CAPTCHA tests are provided to distinguish a human user from a computer software agent in an online application. A test generator generates an original image and a set of (X,Y) positions. The (X,Y) positions can be a random or repeating sequence. The test generator then separates the original image to form a plurality of secondary images. The secondary images are configured to the (X,Y) positions and the original image so that when the secondary images are displaced over time responsive to the (X,Y) positions at least one of the (X,Y) position reveals the original image, or a portion thereof. A test program generator generates an executable program adapted for execution on a client device. The executable program is encoded with the (X,Y) positions and the secondary images, and configured to displace the secondary images over time responsive to the set of positions.

Abstract: The camera includes a sensor for sensing the photographer's iris image and registering the image in advance. The iris image is recorded in the image of a subject by a digital MCU at a timing different from that at which the image of the subject is captured. The recording timing is that at which the camera power supply is turned off, that at which a recording medium is ejected from the camera or that at which the iris image to be recorded is changed to changed to the registered iris image of another photographer. The recording of the iris image is achieved by embedding it as a watermark or by appending it to metadata.

  • Patent number: 8355525
Abstract: A method of segmenting a media signal for parallel watermarking operations sub-divides the media signal into segments, distributes the segments to parallel processors, and performs parallel digital watermark operations on the segments in the parallel processors. These parallel processors may comprise separate threads of execution on a processing unit, or several execution threads distributed to several processing units. In one enhancement, the method prioritizes the segments for watermarking operations. This enables finite processing resources to be allocated to segments in order of their priority. Further, processing resources are devoted to segments where the digital watermark is more likely to be imperceptible and/or readable. A system for distributed watermark embedding operations includes a watermark signal generator, a perceptual analyzer and a watermark applicator.

  • Patent number: RE44542
Abstract: A method and system for verifying a check that is being used for an on-line transaction, utilizes a hash code value either printed directly on the check, or obtained from an insert card provided by a check printer. To conduct an on-line transaction using a check, the customer enters in data obtained from a MICR line of the check, whereby the data includes a one-way hash value that is based on the data provided on the MICR line as well as private data not provided on the MICR line. A web server of an e-tailer for which the customer seeks to make the on-line transaction, receives the data entered by the customer. The web server of the e-tailer transmits, to a check verifier, the data entered by the customer. The check verifier verifies whether or not the check is valid, by comparing the hash code value entered in by the customer with a hash code value that is separately calculated by the check verifier, based on private data of the customer obtained by the check verifier from a database.
