  • Patent number: 8712190
Abstract: Provided are a collating device, a processing method and a collation program, in which a reference line is extracted from an image and each partial image is moved in a manner that the reference line becomes a predetermined one thereby to correct the image, and in which the corrected image is collated so that an authentication result can be obtained for a short time period without any rotating operation. At first, a reference line extracting unit extracts the center line or the contour line of the image as the reference line. Next, an image correcting unit moves each partial image in parallel thereby to correct the image so that the reference line obtained by the reference line extracting unit becomes a predetermined one. Moreover, an image collating unit collates the image corrected by the image correcting unit and a predetermined image to acquire an authentication result.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system for performing image conversion operations. The system starts by receiving a request from a client for one or more pixel buffers containing a pixel-formatted, cropped, geometrically transformed, and/or color matched version of an image representation. The system then determines if a provider can provide the one or more pixel buffers. If so, the system calls the provider to generate the one or more pixel buffers containing the pixel-formatted, cropped, geometrically transformed, and/or color matched version of the image representation. Otherwise, the system calls the provider to generate one or more intermediate pixel buffers, generates a sequence of converters for converting the one or more intermediate pixel buffers, and calls the sequence of converters to generate the one or more pixel buffers containing the pixel-formatted, cropped, geometrically transformed, and/or color matched version of the image representation.

Abstract: A system and method that facilitates planar processing of round earth data by employing a tiled projection is provided. The tiled projection is a two-step projection from the surface of the earth to a common plane that preserves polygons and polygonal paths. During the first step, the system performs a gnomonic projection to the facets of a circumscribed platonic solid, which maps spherical polygons to spatial polygons on the facets of the solid. During the second step, the system performs a polygon-preserving projection from the facets of the platonic solid to tiles in common plane. Thus, projections from multiple facets of the platonic solid on the common plane are processed by employing a planar algorithm.

  • Patent number: 8630484
Abstract: Signal processing techniques are applied to digital image data to remove the distortion caused by motion of the camera, or the movement of the subject being photographed, or defective optics, or optical distortion from other sources. When the image is captured, the effect of relative motion between the camera and the subject is that it transforms the true image into a blurred image according to a 2-dimensional transfer function. The 2-dimensional transfer function representing the motion is derived using blind estimation techniques or by using information from sensors that detect the motion. The transfer function is inverted and used to define a corrective filter. The filter is applied to the image and the blur due to the motion is removed, restoring the correct image. Another embodiment uses the transfer function to avoid blur by combining multiple consecutive images taken at a fast shutter speed.

For instance, the user is first asked to perform a multi-click selection of a polygon to bound the text. A triangulation scheme is carried out to identify the pixels. Segmentation and erasing algorithms are then applied. The ellipses are estimated accurately through constrained least squares fitting. A 3D framework for rendering the text, including the central projection pinhole camera model and specification of the cylindrical object, is generated. These parameters are jointly estimated from the fitted ellipses as well as the two vertical edges of the cylinder. The personalized text is wrapped around the cylinder and subsequently rendered.

  • Patent number: 8478077
Abstract: A method for image alignment is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes acquiring a facial image of a person and using a discriminative face alignment model to fit a generic facial mesh to the facial image to facilitate locating of facial features. The discriminative face alignment model may include a generative shape model component and a discriminative appearance model component. Further, the discriminative appearance model component may have been trained to estimate a score function that minimizes the angle between a gradient direction and a vector pointing toward a ground-truth shape parameter. Additional methods, systems, and articles of manufacture are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8462218
Abstract: An apparatus and method for stabilizing image frames in a video data stream. A weighted average or centroid of the intensity or hue associated with pixels vs. the horizontal and vertical position of each pixel is calculated for a reference frame in the video data stream. A corresponding centroid is calculated for a subsequent frame in the stream. This image frame is then translated so that the centroid of the subsequent frame and the centroid of the reference frame coincide, reducing artifacts from shaking of the video capture device. Alternatively, the video stream frames may be divided into tiles and centroids calculated for each tile. The centroids of the tiles of a subsequent frame are curve fit to the centroids of tiles in a reference frame. An affine transform is then performed on the subsequent frame to reduce artifacts in the image from movements of the video capture device.

Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for performing perspective correction using a reflection. Reflective properties of a surface being photographed can be used to determine a rotation of the device taking the photograph relative to the surface. Light sourced or produced by the device can be used to create a reflection spot in the picture. A position of the reflection spot within the picture is calculated and used to determine the rotation. The rotation can be used for performing perspective correction on the picture, or on another picture taken by the device.

  • Patent number: 8451472
Abstract: Print verification is done by scanning the printed copies, thereby forming a stream of scanned images of the specific pages. Digitized images from the stream are then spatially aligned page by page, line by line and pixel (pel) by pixel (pel) with corresponding digitized images in a stream of source images. The source and scanned images are compared to find pel sequences that are different. These differences represent defects in the printed copies.

Abstract: A method for modifying the viewpoint of a main image of a scene captured from a first viewpoint. The method uses one or more complementary images of the scene captured from viewpoints that are different from the first viewpoint. A warped main image is determined corresponding to a target viewpoint by warping the main image responsive to a corresponding range map, wherein the warped main image includes one or more holes corresponding to scene content that was occluded. Warped complementary images are similarly determined by warping the complementary images to the target viewpoint responsive to corresponding range maps. Pixel values to fill the one or more holes in the warped main image are determined using pixel values at corresponding pixel locations in the warped complementary images.

  • Patent number: 8447133
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of determining the distortions in the projection system of a TEM, and a method of correcting for these aberrations. The aberrations are determined by collecting a large number of images of a sample, the sample slightly displaced between each acquisition of an image. On the images sub-fields (303, 304-i) showing identical parts of the sample are compared. These sub-fields (303, 304-i) will show small differences, corresponding to differential aberrations. In this way the differential aberrations in a large number of points can determined, after which the aberrations for each point can be determined by integration. By now correcting the position of each detected pixel in an image to be displayed, the displayed image has much reduced aberrations. An advantage of the method according to the invention is that no highly accurate steps of the sample are needed, nor is a sample with known geometry needed.

Abstract: A moving image sequence is automatically reframed for a small display. The framing is adjusted in dependence upon foreground and background segment weights derived for pixels in images in the sequence. Reframed images are formed from only those input pixels which fall within a reframing window within the input image area and the position or size of the reframing window is adjusted so as to maximize a weighted total of the sum of the foreground weights of pixels within the window and the sum of the background weights of pixels outside the window.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image processing method, image processing device and program which make it possible to shorten the processing time, and which also make it possible to set tile regions in appropriate ranges, by dividing one image into a plurality of regions and performing a transformation for each of these regions. The post-transformation image is divided into a plurality of tile regions, and transformation processing and the like are successively performed, with each of these tile regions as the object. In cases where a given tile region that is the object of processing contains a central axis that passes through the origin of the post-transformation image, the tile size of this region is altered by the tile size determining part 41 so that this region does not contain a central axis.
