Abstract: A storage bag includes first and second side surfaces that form an interior of the bag with an opening to the interior. A first closure profile connected to the first side surface and positioned adjacent to the opening has a top edge and includes an interlocking member that extends between first and second sides of the first closure profile forms a lip between the interlocking member and the top edge. A second closure profile connected to the second side surface and positioned adjacent to the opening of the bag has a top edge and includes an interlocking member. A first portion of the lip of the second closure profile smoothly transitions into a third portion of the lip of the second closure profile, and the third portion of the lip of the second closure profile smoothly transitions into a second portion of the lip of the second closure profile.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of characterizing a multimode optical fiber link including a light source and two or more multimode fibers. The method includes a step of characterizing each of said multimode fibers using a measurement of the Dispersion Modal Delay (DMD) for each of said multimode fibers, and delivering, for each of said multimode fibers, at least three fiber characteristic curves as a function of a radial offset value r; a step of characterizing the light source by at least three source characteristic curves showing at least three parameters of the source as a function of a fiber radius r and obtained by a technique similar to the DMD measurement; and a step of computing an Effective Bandwidth (EB) of the link, comprising calculating a transfer function using both each of said source characteristic curves and each of said at least three fiber characteristic curves for each of said multimode fibers.

Abstract: A storage bag is provide with features that facilitate unsealing an opening of the bag, including shaped lips and visual cues for areas that the lips that should be grasped during the unsealing process. The visual cue may include relative coloring of portions of the lips of the bag. The storage bag also includes features that facilitate sealing the opening of the bag, including textured areas and dimples. Such features may provide visual cues, tactile feedback and/or audio feedback in order to facilitate the sealing process.

Abstract: A device for holding bath toys is provided that includes a flexible receptacle having a back panel and a front panel adjoined by opposing sides and a bottom of the receptacle. At least a portion of the bottom of the receptacle is formed of a mesh material and a top portion of the back panel defines at least two openings, with the top portion of the back panel and an upper edge of the front panel further defining an open end of the receptacle. The device also includes a mounting plate having at least two posts on a first side of the mounting plate and an element for attaching the mounting plate to a wall; and at least two caps, each cap defining a bore for receiving the post and for secure attachment to the post.

Abstract: A reversible handbag capable of taking a variety of different shapes and configurations having a front side, a back side, and a bottom side, two side seams formed by joining the boundaries of the front side with the boundaries of the back side. The bottoms of the front side and back side are joined to the outer perimeter of the bottom side leaving an open periphery at the top of the handbag. The side seams each have an aperture located near their top edges and the front back sides each have two columns of two or more apertures. The open periphery can be folded inward or outward to create several different configurations of the handbag and the apertures on the side seams and front and back sides are capable of receiving clasps or other fasteners from straps in order to provide handles, carrying straps, and the like for the various configurations.

Two strap members (23, 24) are positioned between the first and the second plate member (21, 22).

Abstract: There is provided an ink pack, which is provided with a film bag that has a sealed chamber therein and is formed of a flexible film member having a form of a bag, and a tap that has an ink flow channel therein and is welded to one edge of the flexible film member. In this structure, a film welding part, in which opposed inner surfaces of the flexible film member are welded to each other, is formed at least along the one edge of the flexible film member. A tap welding part, in which a side of the tap is welded to opposed inner surfaces of the flexible film member, is formed in the one edge of the flexible film member. Further, a welding width of a side of the film welding part adjacent to the tap welding part is larger than a welding width of a side of the tap welding part adjacent to the film welding part.

Abstract: A container (1) for filling material and a method for processing gusseted tubular films (4), wherein the container (1) has a container body (2) made of a tubular film (4) provided with gussets (3) which comprises an inner volume for receiving a filling material. There is an end seam (5) on a first end (12) of the container body (2), and in the area of the gussets (3) on the container corners (8), corner seams (7) are provided which respectively extend through two layers (13a, 13b) of the gussets (3a, 3b) in order to separate the container corner area (8) from the inner volume. On at least one container corner (8), at least one opening (9) is provided which extends through the layers (13a, 13b) of the gusset (3a, 3b) and which is separated from the inner volume of the container body (2) such that, thanks to the corner seams (7) and the end seam (5) and the opening (9), a carry device (11) is formed which allows a finger hold on the carry device (11) for a person carrying the container.

Abstract: A package is formed from two sheets of thin film material which are double backed upon each other to form a header portion and a substantially rigid insert is connected to the header portion coincident with a cutout formed therein. The cutout exposes an internalized J-shaped portion of the insert defining a hook by reason of which the package can be readily attached to, maintained on, and removed from a display rack. The insert includes a tab member which projects beyond a leading edge of the package and defines highly visible opposed surfaces for reception thereon of informational indicia.

Abstract: A portfolio for use by a participant to a convention, seminar or trade show can be conveniently secured over the back of a seat, provides a surface or transparent pocket for prominently displaying a corporate logo, trademark or association emblem, and has appropriately shaped and dimensioned pockets to hold documents, writing instruments and a cellular phone. The portfolio can be freely provided to such a participant as an advertising medium by installing it prior to the initial meeting over the back of the seat immediately in front of him.

Abstract: A bag for storing and dispensing flexible bags. The bag has an upper opening closed by a drawstring and a lower opening closed by an elastic gather. The drawstring is enclosed within a hem. The drawstring is partially exposed so that it may be draped over a hook or the like, thereby suspending the bag from an environmental surface. The gather comprises an elastic band stitched to the bag either by passing stitches through the elastic band or such that the stitches surround and entrap the band without penetrating it. The novel bag is fabricated by placing the drawstring and the gather at opposite, parallel ends of a spread out panel of flexible fabric. The ends are folded over to enclose the drawstring, and are adhered, welded, or otherwise secured in this fashion. The remaining two opposed edges are then joined, thereby reconfiguring the rectangular panel as a cylinder, with one open end encircled by the drawstring and the other open end closed by the gather.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the operational bandwidth of a multimode optical fiber communications system is provided. The method comprises launching optical radiation into the core of the multimode fiber away from the center of the core so as to strongly excite mid order modes of the multimode fiber, but to only weakly excite low order and high order modes of the multimode fiber. The mid order modes excited are predominately within a small number of mode groups and thus have similar propagation constants. This leads to a reduction in modal dispersion and thus to a significant increase in bandwidth compared to an overfilled launch. The offset launch of the invention is tolerant both to the launch conditions and to any imperfections in the fiber refractive index profile. Modal noise performance is also enhanced. Embodiments of the invention employ a singlemode fiber, a multimode fiber or a lens to illuminate an end face of a multimode fiber with a small spot offset from the optical axis of the fiber.

Abstract: A carrying bag of thermoplastic material has side walls with inwardly folded top edge portions to which handle loops made of a similarly flexible material are bonded. In order to obtain a multifunctional bag which can be easily and economically manufactured and readily recycled, the edge portion of one side wall protrudes beyond the edge portion of the other side wall, the protruding edge portion having a slit-like cut so that the protruding edge portion can be folded over the opposite side of the bag.

Abstract: A container for receiving and holding an object comprises generally parallel front and rear panels, generally parallel side panels, and a bottom panel, the edges of the front, rear and side panels being joined together and being joined with the bottom panel to form a generally bag-like container with an open top. The top edges of the front, rear and side panels are folded toward the bottom panel to form a reinforcing cuff proximate the open top of the container. A support member includes a first portion installed within the cuff and a second portion extending from the first portion out of the cuff and beyond the top of the container. The second support member portion includes an opening for receiving a supporting member for supporting the container in a hanging condition.

Abstract: A thin plastic film bag design is provided according to which two plastic films are placed together in face-to-face relationship to form an enclosure. The film are sealed together at the lateral edge portions thereof but are open at the bottom extremity to allow stuffing contents into the defined enclosure. The sheets are so arranged at the upper extremity of the bag so as to define a supplemental enclosure which is delimited by at least two film layers. In the supplemental enclosure is entrapped the base of a hanger the hook portion of which is arranged on a throat extending through the multiple layers defining the supplemental enclosure. In one form the two layers are folded back on themselves at the upper extremity of the bag. In another form one of the films included in the associated bag is folded back on itself to form a U-shaped bight into which the other layer extends.

Abstract: A shopping bag of thermoplastic synthetic resin sheeting with lateral weld seams wherein, at the bag opening, the front wall is fashioned with a straight rim, and the rear wall is fashioned to project beyond the front wall with an approximately sinusoidal rim to form a protruding flap. The sinusoidal rim of the rear wall terminates either above or below the rim of the front wall in the lateral weld seams. A process for the production of the shopping bags by sinusoidal cutting apart of a film ply of a tubular sheet involves a series of sequential operation at successive stages or stations.

Abstract: A pouch comprises an upper wall, a lower wall, each of the walls having two longitudinal edges, a bottom edge and a top edge, elements for connecting the walls with one another so as to connect the side edges and the bottom edge of one of the walls with the side edges and the bottom edge of the other of the walls and to retain the top edges not connected with one another to form a filling opening, and elements for suspending the pouch and including at least one suspension opening and at least one slot provided in one of the walls and forming a bridge therebetween, and at least one suspension opening and at least one slot provided in the other of the side walls and directly communicating the one suspension opening with the top edge of the other of side walls.

Abstract: A bag for fluidic commodities is formed of a hose of thermoplastic film material and includes a body having side folds and formed by two opposing walls welded to each other at at least their upper ends. The bag has a filling opening and a loop-shaped gripping handle formed by two opposite strips cut out from the blank of the bag and welded to each other at the upper ends. A method of producing such bags includes steps for making the bag body and the gripping handle.

Abstract: A container or bag or sack essentially comprises a tubular fabric, in particular a circular fabric of polyolefines, having a double wall formed by turning in or partially inverting the tubular fabric. In addition, a cut extending downwardly from the folded or turned in edge is provided in the double wall, and the folded or turned in edge thus cut open is gathered or tucked all the way around such that this gathered inner wall-sections of the double wall form a suspension or hanging loop. A suspension loop is thus formed in a relatively simple manner. Practically all the warp threads of the circular fabric unite in the suspension loop, imparting to the sack possessing a load-carrying strength at least equivalent to the tensile strength of the fabric. The lifting strength of the suspension loop is considerably increased by the gathering.

Abstract: A carry-bag includes two wall sheets (34,36) joined or coherent to define a bag portion, and the respective top portions of the wall sheets are provided with gripping and carrying openings. In order to provide a strong, easy to use, and relatively tight closing to the interior of the bag portion, the top portion of a first wall sheet (34) has been folded inwardly and attached to define an insertion pocket (24), and a gripping opening is provided in the pocket. A top portion of the other wall sheet (36) is shaped as an insertion tongue (32) which is also provided with a gripping opening (6) and is adapted to be received in the interior of the pocket (24) so that the two gripping openings are at least partially coextensive.

Abstract: This invention is a novel plastic bag and method of making it with a handle that extends upward through a folded-back top compartment, and the end of a front of the bag has a pocket with a similar folded-over top edge of the back of the bag. The bags of this invention are made from a continuous sheet, preferably a roll of plastic web that has its opposite side edges folded inwardly along opposite edges of the web to make the folded edges at the front and back sides of the bag. The web is then folded along its longitudinal center region with a gusset that forms the bottom of each bag. The bags have surfaces that are welded together to join areas of the front and of the back where necessary to weld plastic areas together, and certain areas do not weld where the plastic sheet is coated on areas that prevent heat applied to the plastic from fusing together.

Abstract: A pair of handles for a shopping bag, each handle having a base and a bail molded of one-piece plastic construction, are disclosed. The opposite ends of the bail are integrally connected to the base in a manner so as to impart an aesthetically pleasing, generally flat appearance to the bag in the regions overlying the bail ends. The bail has a twisted hand grip portion having a smooth lower surface free of sharp edges to facilitate carrying the bag.
