    Abstract: A dry running mechanical ball joint seal includes a spherical element penetrated by a central passage and suspended between support rings that are pressed by springs against the spherical element and form a sliding dry seal therewith. A lip seal is located between the support rings and includes wipers pressed radially inward by a lip seal spring to form an additional seal with the spherical element. In embodiments directed to piping systems, a fluid is able to flow through the central passage. Other embodiments include a sliding rod directed through the central passage and sealed to the spherical element by a rod support within the central passage and also by at least one rod lip seal having a wiper pressed by a spring against the rod. The rod support can include a compressible packing material and/or a linear ball bearing sealed to the spherical element within the central passage.

    Abstract: An improved split bearing for use with an aircraft landing gear assembly is disclosed. The split bearing includes first and second semi-cylindrical sleeve components adapted for installation in surrounding relation with the piston tube of a hydraulically actuated landing gear system of an aircraft. A retaining flange secures the split-bearing sleeve components and is adapted for assembly into an integral and complete nose gear lower bearing that allows removal of the main wear component without complete disassembly of the nose gear. A preferred embodiment disclosed herein is particularly adapted for use on an Embraerâ„¢ Emb120 turbo propeller aircraft. The nose gear lower bearing disclosed herein is designed to allow aircraft technicians the ability to quickly change the main wear portion of the lower bearing without the need to discharge, remove and/or disassemble the nose gear from the aircraft.

    Abstract: A ball and socket bearing assembly adapted to receive the vertical post of a rudder installed in the stern of a boat. The assembly consists of a molded journal box having a spheroidal cavity therein defining a socket in which is nested a ball-like bearing formed of UHMW polyethylene or of a material having similar non-stick properties, the post passing through an axial bore in the bearing. The assembly is produced by placing the preformed bearing in a mold to create an annular space between the bearing and the inner wall of the mold. This space is then flooded with a curable liquid resin monomer whereby when the monomer is polymerized and rigidified, it does not bond to the non-stick bearing. The bearing is therefore free to rotate in the cavity and align itself with the rudder post regardless of the degree to which the post deviates from the vertical as a result of hydrodynamic or other forces imposed on the rudder.

    Abstract: A bushing has a cylindrical retaining member and an inner cylinder having an expanded portion which radially outwardly expands at its axially central portion to define a spherical outer surface. A pair of ring-shaped inserts, each having a concave inner surface, are slidably disposed in contact with the spherical outer surface of the expanded portion. A pair of outer cylinders are press-fitted into the retaining member from open ends thereof. An inside end surface of each outer cylinder abuts on an outside surface of each insert, thereby pushing each insert toward the expanded portion of the inner cylinder. A pair of cylindrical sealing members are disposed between the outer cylinders and the inner cylinder for providing a seal therebetween. An inside edge of the outer surface of each sealing member is bonded to the inner surface of each outer cylinder, and an outside edge of the inner surface of each sealing member is in sealing engagement with the outer surface of the inner cylinder.

Normal loads are taken and absorbed by the elastomeric rings, while overloads and shock loads are taken by the metallic ring insert.

    Abstract: A siren comprises a compressed air supply which is deflected by stationary deflectors to exit radially through stator ports. A rotor with spaced ports rotates between the stator and deflector thereby opening and closing the stator ports. Stationary vanes are disposed at circumferentially spaced locations, and constitute together with the deflector plate and stator and rotor housing, plenums. There are fewer rotor ports than stator ports, which generates an out-of-phase acoustical pattern which creates an acoustic combination from the stator ports of an acoustic output at a distance from the siren which is more uniform spatially. The thermoplastic seal between the stator and the rotor has minimal clearance under operating conditions having been run-in and plastically deformed at a temperature higher than for normal operation.

A click member is fitted on the spool shaft for rotation therewith and is received within the click receiver, and a plurality of drag washers are fitted around the spool shaft abutting the click member. A drag mechanism applies an adjustable force to the drag washers.
