  • Patent number: 10663000
Abstract: An improved bushing restricts exhaust at a lube transfer port and exhaust ports equalizing bushing lube PSI with lube supply PSI. A hole or pair of holes in the bushing with an area equal to that of the lube supply holes in a center support regulates an intermediate pressure to the bushings of 50% of the supply pressure on its own, regardless of the balance piston. When the balance piston is filled, the added resistance at the transfer orifices will begin to equalize bushing lube PSI with lube supply PSI. When the balance piston exhaust ports are also restricted, as with an increased height of the bushing and installation site, equalization is insured and bushing lube PSI becomes that of the supply PSI.

  • Patent number: 6012849
Abstract: A rotating shaft of a rotating machine is supported at its both ends by bearing bushes which are held in a frame of the rotating machine. The outer periphery of the bearing bush is rounded and held with a rounded surface formed on the frame, so that the rotational axis of the shaft and the bearing are self-aligned by rotation of the bearing bush. The inner bore of the bearing bush rotatably supporting the shaft therein is shortened by forming a relief bore, the diameter of which is larger than that of the inner bore. Because of this bearing structure, a natural vibration frequency of the shaft varies less, and, therefore, the rotating machine can be easily designed so that harmful noises due to the natural vibration are sufficiently suppressed.

  • Patent number: 4904106
Abstract: A socket bearing for use in a ball and socket joint includes a plurality of lubrication grooves, some having annular, others having helical, orientations over the interior surface thereof. In a preferred form, the socket is cup-shaped having a spherical interior surface, and includes three parallel radially oriented annular grooves intersected by three longitudinally oriented helical grooves. Each groove defines a radius, and each pair of adjacent grooves defines a land between the grooves. An interface boundary is defined by one side of one groove and the land associated with the side of that particular groove. The interface boundary is radiused, wherein the radius thereof has a value of at least fifty percent of that of the radius of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4840498
Abstract: A self-aligning bearing assembly, especially adapted for use in space, contains lubrication passages to provide a stiff fluid film to support a rotating member. One or more anti-rotation pins extend between the ball and race members which allow a small articulating motion without full rotation of the ball member and race member relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 4765757
Abstract: A self-aligning spherical bushing is disclosed to be positionable between an inner member and an outer member to allow movement therebetween. The bushing includes a first outer ring of generally cylindrical shape which includes a spherically concave inner surface. A second ring is included which is also generally cylindrical and includes a cylindrical central opening therethrough and a convex outer surface. The second ring is adapted to be captured within the first ring with the spherical surfaces mated with respect to one another movably. The inner and outer surfaces of the inner ring can include a lubrication groove extending circumferentially therearound. The outer ring can define a lubrication groove about the outer surface thereof. A lubrication aperture can connect the inner and outer surfaces of each ring.

  • Patent number: 4711590
Abstract: A self-aligning bearing and end shield mount for an electric motor or the like. The bearing mount has a spacer with a hub through which the rotor shaft extends and fingers that seat within an annular locating groove of the rotor shaft for securing the spacer to the shaft. The spacer also has a thrust surface. A spring has a hub portion through which the rotor shaft extends and a ring surrounding the hub with resilient arms therebetween. The spring also has a bearing seat and a thrust plate seat. A self-aligning bearing is seated in a bearing socket in the end shield of the motor housing and in the bearing seat of the spring. A thrust plate is seated within the thrust plate seat of the spring with the thrust surface of the spacer running against a surface portion of the thrust plate.

  • Patent number: 4598220
Abstract: A fractional horsepower electric motor comprises a stator, a shell supporting the stator, end members closing the ends of the shell, a shaft supporting a rotor within the stator, a bearing system on the end members rotatably supporting the shaft comprising a bearing member on the shaft engaging a seat on the end member, a spring yieldingly urging the bearing member against the seat, an oil retention body associated with the bearing member, a spacer on the shaft, and a composite washer interposed between said spacer and said bearing member through which said shaft extends. The composite washer comprises a base layer of plastic filament material, a layer of resilient elastic material bonded to one surface of the base layer, and an oil impregnated layer bonded to the other surface of the base layer and engaging said bearing member, whereby oil from the bearing passes through the base layer in capillary fashion and upon rotation is directed in small droplets toward said oil reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4571811
Abstract: A process for manufacturing ball joints or other self-lubricated joints, comprising placing the inner ring of the ball joint in a heat-retractable sheath of determined thickness and shrinking the sheath on this inner ring. The inner ring is then disposed in an outer ring blank which is then deformed so that the sheath is clamped between the outer and the inner ring. After machining of the blank, the assembly is treated so as to eliminate the heat-retractable sheath and thus form between the two rings a free space whose thickness corresponds to that of the sheath. A self-lubricating resin is then injected in this space.
