  • Patent number: 5973429
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating the reduction or elimination of end play associated with an armature in an electric motor is disclosed. The system and method utilize an end play assembly which includes a housing having an integrally molded lock for retaining a screw in an unengaged and locked position. The end play assembly also includes a coil spring which urges the screw towards an engaged and unlocked position when the end play assembly is mounted in a housing of the electric motor. The lock includes at least one wing portion which engages a notch on the housing of the electric motor such that when the end play assembly is mounted in the motor housing, the notch forces the lock into the unlocked position which releases the screw so that the spring can urge, rotate or screw the screw to cause a screw end to be forced into engagement with the end of an armature of the electric motor.

  • Patent number: 5899661
Abstract: An axial restraint system for use in a variable pipe diffuser having an inner ring rotatably positioned within an outer ring. The axial restraint system includes a housing fixedly mounted to the outer ring and having a mounting hole disposed therein in perpendicular arrangement to the inner ring. A shaft having a first end and a second end and having a bearing pad mounted to the first end. The second end of the shaft is threadably engaged within the mounting hole and rotatably operable to effect an adjustment of the position of the bearing pad. The shaft is positioned such that the bearing pad contacts the inner ring and thereby limits the axial movement of the inner ring relative to the outer ring.

  • Patent number: 5713671
Abstract: An adjustable bearing assembly includes a bearing housing and a bearing body fixed to a carrier and disposed within the housing. Set screws are provided to adjustably position the carrier, hence the bearing body relative to the housing without disassembling the bearing. After the bearing body position has been adjusted, cap screws are employed to fix the carrier against movement relative to the housing and relative to a support surface. In an alternate embodiment, the carrier is in engagement with an inner eccentric ring which, in turn, is engaged by an outer eccentric ring, both rotatably mounted within the housing. The axes of the eccentric rings are spaced from one another and are parallel to the axis of the rotating shaft. Rotation of the eccentric rings relative to one another and to the housing adjusts the position of the bearing body.

  • Patent number: 5613402
Abstract: An adjustable set bearing for a gear assembly for a power seat adjuster on a vehicle, wherein the gear assembly couples a motor output shaft to a lead screw. The gear assembly is contained in a housing assembly and includes a first gear rotatably mounted to the housing and having connecting means to the motor output shaft. The first gear has end journals and a worm disposed therebetween. A second gear is carried for rotation on the lead screw and is in meshing engagement with the first gear. The housing assembly includes adjustable supporting means for supporting an end journal. The adjustable supporting means includes an adjustable set bearing that is threadably insertable into an access port into contact with an end journal. The adjustable set bearing has an inner smooth concentric surface for supporting an end journal of the worm and allowing rotatable movement of the end journal.

  • Patent number: 4932787
Abstract: A steady bearing for supporting the extended end of an impeller shaft at the bottom of a mixing vessel provides adjustment for the alignment of the position of the shaft within the vessel and includes a bearing support stand with legs extending to the bottom of the tank or vessel, and a plate which is supported off of the bottom. A steady bearing housing has a bearing sleeve which receives the end of the shaft and has a mounting flange which extends radially of the housing and is mounted or received in abutting relation to the bearing support plate. Couplers in the form of slotted circular discs are received in recesses in the bearing housing mounting flange. The slots have threaded fasteners which extend therethrough and into the support plate, so that the radial position of the steady bearing housing with respect to the support stand may be made accompanied by rotational movement of the coupler discs within their respective recesses.

  • Patent number: 4530144
Abstract: The end of an axle spindle is provided with right hand and left hand threads to receive respective axle nuts. The inner nut thread diameter is larger than the outer nut thread diameter in order to avoid interference. The wheel, bearings and an inner nonrotatable washer on the axle spindle are secured in place by tightening the inner nut to an initial snug (no clearance) condition against the face of the nonrotatable washer. One of eight holes on the outer face of the inner nut receives a projecting pin of a spacing control device which pin projects a predetermined distance. The outer nut is turned until the spacing control device engages one of the eight recesses. Then the flats of both nuts are tightened by a spanner wrench which causes the inner nut to "back off". The method is to create a space between nuts (e.g. by use of a shim spacer) which converts to an appropriate clearance space between the inner nut and nonrotatable washer in the final condition and to maintain that space in the final condition.

  • Patent number: 4398862
Abstract: A pivot pin assembly for a bucket loader wherein a pivot pin having an enlarged tapered head passes through bushings in the loader boom arm to a distal end whereat an externally tapered thrust collar is slideably mounted thereon. An adjustment plug is threaded in the thrust collar and regulates the spacing between the collar and the pin end thereby setting the side clearance for the bushings. A pair of split wedge collars respectively lock the tapered pin head and the thrust collar in the bushing bracket apertures, the split collars being wedgingly locked by end plates bolted to the respective ends of the pin. Lip seals are provided between the boom arm and the pin head and the thrust collar and the boom arm and the pin is provided with an internal lubricant reservoir communicating with the boom arm bushings which may be easily refilled as necessary.
