  • Patent number: 11718127
Abstract: An axle assembly includes a spindle to receive a drive shaft having a rotational input about an axis and a wheel hub rotatably supported by at least one roller bearing disposed on the spindle. A tire inflation system defines a spindle gas passage to route pressurized gas from an onboard source through the spindle. The tire inflation system includes a seal chamber between the spindle and wheel hub to transfer gas from the spindle to the wheel hub, and a hub gas passage in fluid communication with the seal chamber is arranged to route the pressurized gas to a tire. A lubrication system having a reservoir is located axially outboard of the seal chamber and at least one hub lubricant passage routes lubricant between the reservoir to a roller bearing located axially inboard of the seal chamber. The hub lubricant passage routes lubricant radially outward of the seal chamber.

  • Patent number: 10926491
Abstract: A roller device for use in an automated fiber placement process for creating composite parts on a contoured tool. A helical spring provides a bendable axle, and a roller cover fits over the spring axle. A tension mechanism is arranged through the spring axle along a centerline axis, and is adjustable to control a bendability of the spring axle so as to more closely conform to particular contours of the tool. The tension mechanism may include a cable extending through the spring axle, a threaded portion at an end of the cable, and a screw received within the threaded portion and turnable to adjust a length of the tension mechanism and thereby adjust the bendability of the spring axle. The tension mechanism may be adjustable manually, semi-manually with a motor controlled by a user, or automatically with a motor controlled by an electronic controller.

  • Patent number: 9120514
Abstract: A roller of a tracked vehicle includes a lubricating oil reservoir having an open end closed by a sealing body having an outer face and an opposed inner face facing the reservoir, and which is transparent to provide visual access into the reservoir through the open end for lubricating oil level and quality monitoring purposes. A depression with a raised rim is formed in the outer face of the sealing body, and a port is formed in the sealing body, which extends through the sealing body at the depression from the outer face to the inner face of the sealing body. A removable plug is applied to and closes the port, and is positioned in the depression and extends outwardly from the outer face of the sealing body no further than the raised rim isolating the plug from shearing forces across the outer face of the sealing body.

Abstract: An example journal pin includes a generally cylindrical body disposed on an axis having a supply passage. A first chamber and a second chamber are disposed in the generally cylindrical body and are in fluid communication with the supply passage. A recess on an outer diameter of the cylindrical body is in fluid communication with the first chamber and the second chamber. The first chamber and second chamber are each radially outward of the supply passage and including an outlet to the recess. The first chamber and second chamber each have a first section radially inward of a second section. A cross sectional area of the second section is greater than a cross sectional area of the corresponding first section.

  • Patent number: 8657714
Abstract: A journal bearing for use in an epicyclical gearbox including a journal pin, a journal bearing body into which the journal pin is disposed and at least one lubricating fluid inlet. The lubricating fluid inlet is configured to provide for an input of a lubricating fluid in a loaded arc portion proximate at least one high pressure point exerted upon the journal bearing body during a high pressure event, thereby permitting a free flow of a lubricating fluid there between the journal pin and the journal bearing body during the high pressure event. In an embodiment, the journal pin is configured to mimic the shape of the journal bearing body at least at a high pressure point exerted upon the journal bearing body during a high pressure event. An epicyclical gearbox including the journal bearing and method of facilitating a hydrodynamic oil flow in the planet gear journal bearing.

  • Patent number: 6280087
Abstract: A guide for a high speed steel rolling mill comprises two rolling members, between which the work product passes mounted for rotation on a base member. Each roller has a frusto-conically shaped bearing recess formed therein and each guide roller is mounted on a mating, frusto-conically shaped projection which protrudes from the base member. Each of the projections has a central oil duct which serves to feed a lubricating oil under pressure into the frusto-conically shaped space between the roller and its mating projection. The lubricating oil serves to form a film between the stationary projection and the rotating guide roller. Because of the conically shaped mating surface, the lubricating oil tends to “lift” the guide roller from the surface of the supporting base. Each rolling member is provided with a vane structure to permit the rolling member to be prespun by the impingement of a cooling fluid on the vane surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 5626111
Abstract: A structure for blocking an oil supply hole of a kick idle gear bearing portion is provided in an internal combustion engine of a type wherein a kick starting mechanism is removably mounted for transmitting an input from a kick arm to a crank shaft by way of a kick idle gear rotatably supported by a counter shaft. When the kick starting mechanism is removed and a self stating mode is set, an oil supply hole of a bearing portion in the state that the kick idle gear of the counter shaft is removed is blocked by a blocking member having a slip preventive function. The blocking member includes an insertion portion inserted in the oil supply hole, and an abutment portion integrally formed with the insertion portion, which is abutted on the outer peripheral surface of the bearing portion.

  • Patent number: 5567056
Abstract: A planet bearing and gear assembly for the carrier of a speed increasing planetary gear train for driving a diesel engine turbocharger or the like includes an enlarged diameter gear bore and associated bearing outer diameter for lightening the gear and increasing the bearing area to at least 50 percent and preferably more than 65 percent greater than those of the bearing inner wall and the outer diameter of an associated support pin. Self-cleaning of unfiltered dirt particles in the engine lubricating oil is provided by dirt expulsion passages formed by flats at the edges of an oil supply groove in the planet bearing while operation with entrained dirt particles capable of passing through the engine lubricating oil filters is improved by increased oil film thickness resulting from reduced bearing loads due to reduction of mass of the planet gears and increased bearing surface.
