Capillary Patents (Class 384/408)
  • Patent number: 9458887
Abstract: A synthetic resin-made thrust sliding bearing 1 includes a synthetic resin-made upper casing 100, a synthetic resin-made lower casing 200, and a synthetic resin-made thrust bearing piece 300 interposed between the upper and lower casings 100 and 200. If it is assumed that the radial length of the thrust bearing piece 300 up to its outer peripheral surface 303 is (r), and the thickness of an upper annular plate portion 102 at its inner peripheral surface is (t), the upper casing 100 has on its upper surface 108 an annular flat surface 109 having a circular outer peripheral edge with R in a range of R=r±t.

  • Patent number: 7802656
Abstract: An improved wick-holder for mounting a felt lubricating wick is provided with a passive inertia-activated pump mounted for submersion in the axle-cap lubricant-reservoir at a level that ensures that for all levels of the reservoir, the pump inlet is submerged in the lubricant of the reservoir. In a first embodiment, the passive inertia-activated pump takes the form of a piston-type pump, while in a second embodiment, the passive inertia-activated pump takes the form of a diaphragm pump. In either embodiment, the inlet of the passive inertia-activated pump is submersed in the lubricant-reservoir, and the output of the passive inertia-activated pump is directed to the surface-interface between the felt wick and the axle journal surface-area to increase the lubrication thereof over and above that which normally ensues owing to the conventional capillary action of the felt wick.

  • Patent number: 5767425
Abstract: A bobbin unit for a cross-coil type meter is composed of an upper bobbin and a lower bobbin. The upper and lower bobbins have an inner cylindrical portion which has a center through hole for receiving a indicator shaft therein. A bearing portion is formed at an edge portion of the center through hole and an oil reservoir portion is formed at a portion in the center through hole adjacent to the bearing portion. The reservoir portion has an inside diameter larger than that of the bearing portion and accommodates a lubricating oil. The reservoir portion is composed of a first annular groove for supplying the lubricating oil to the bearing portion by the capillary action, an oil holding groove and a seal portion having a small gap between the shaft and the inner periphery of the center through hole.

  • Patent number: 4966471
Abstract: A seal assembly for a rotating drum in which a trunnion is secured relative to the drum for rotation therewith and is supported by a bearing assembly. At least one seal ring engages a shoulder of the trunnion in an area adjacent to the bearing surfaces of the trunnion and the bearing assembly. The seal ring is laterally held loosely in place by at least one retaining ring and is biased against the trunnion by a spring loaded cable. A lubricant is injected between the trunnion and the bearing assembly and collects in at least one reservoir. The lubricant is absorbed by the seal ring from the reservoir through a wick.

  • Patent number: 4599006
Abstract: A self-aligning, self-contained, self-lubricating cartridge bearing assembly including a nonporous bearing member having a central bore sized to receive a rotatable shaft. The bearing member has an aperture extending radially from its central bore to its outer surface to receive a contractor made of fibrous material. The bearing member may be made of die cast aluminum alloy. The bearing member is held in a mounting member by two retainers. An oil-impregnated wicking material surrounds the bearing member and contactor. An oil slinger sized to fit on the rotatable shaft for rotation therewith is positioned adjacent to the bearing member to sling lubricant radially outward. End caps are provided which retain the oil-impregnated wicking material inside the bearing assembly. In some embodiments, the retainers are resilient spring elements which, by their resilience, hold the bearing member in a captive ball and socket configuration.
