  • Patent number: 9874220
Abstract: A device to limit pre-rotation of fluid across turbomachinery regions where significant pressure differentials exist between rotating and non-rotating components. In one form, the present invention is particularly applicable to centrifugal-based turbomachinery. Of particular concern is that the highly-energized fluid exiting an impeller or related rotating member can impart significant swirl velocity and related rotordynamic forces which in turn may impact rotor stability. The potential for such instability is particularly high when flow coming from an impeller discharge permeates a seal, bushing or related component that is used to fluidly separate the impeller from an upstage partition. The present invention replaces traditional bushing seal designs at swirl-prone regions with a vaned anti-swirl bushing that fits within the housing without increasing the axial or radial dimensions of the housing.

Abstract: An aerostatic bearing is provided for the thrust bearing arrangement of the shaft of an open-end spinning rotor. This aerostatic bearing comprises a bearing plate, which forms a bearing gap with the end of the shaft. An axial thrust, directed against the bearing, is exerted on the shaft. The bearing plate is provided with bore holes for releasing air into the bearing gap. An adjustable ball cup is arranged at the bearing plate for adjusting the bearing gap. This ball cup preferably takes the form of a sliding body which has a spherically shaped surface and is held in a corresponding spherically shaped bearing support. After the open-end spinning rotor has been adjustable cup adjusts automatically so that the surfaces which form the bearing gap are disposed parallel to one another.

  • Patent number: 5765950
Abstract: A thrust bearing assembly for a submersible motor assembly of a submersible pump assembly comprising first and second bearing members or plates and first and second bearing holders contained within a housing. Each bearing plate is in the form of a disk having a bearing surface, and the first and second bearing plates are disposed between the first and second bearing holders with the bearing surfaces in face-to-face contact. The first bearing holder is in the form of a thrust bearing holder, and the second bearing holder is in the form of a gimbal plate. The first bearing plate is adapted to rotate with a rotor shaft of the submersible pump assembly and to impose a thrust load on the second plate, and the second bearing plate is adapted to remain stationary relative to the rotating first bearing plate. Grooves are defined by one or both of the bearing surfaces to allow fluid from a fluid supply to enter between the bearing surfaces to create a fluid film to lubricate and cool the bearing surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5666854
Abstract: A support for a gear wheel, used in a toothed gear change transmission having a shaft and a gear wheel, where the support provides both sufficient axial fixing and radial play between the gear wheel and the shaft, necessary to compensate for working loads. The support is used with a gear wheel having internal teeth with at least one discontinuity in the internal teeth and a groove extending into the internal teeth. The support has a first disc with external teeth and at least one mating discontinuity in the external teeth, whereby the internal and external teeth and the discontinuities, respectively, can coincide with one another. A locking mechanism locks the position of the first disc relative to the gear wheel. To prevent against axial movement of the first disc against the direction of insertion into the groove, the support also includes a securing device.

  • Patent number: 5642942
Abstract: A radially disposed thrust bearing assembly for air cooled and lubricated mining type rotary cone rock bits consists of a first non-rotating radially disposed steel thrust bearing disc and an apposed, non-rotating carbide thrust bearing disc. One of the thrust bearing discs is pressed into a disc retention socket formed in the end of a spindle bearing extending from the end of a main axially aligned bearing cantilevered from a leg of the bit and the other thrust bearing disc is pressed into a disc retention socket formed in the rotary cone. An edge of the carbide disc is formed with large valleys and peaks, the robust undulations resist cracking when the carbide thrust bearing disc is pressed into its respective socket. Unique air passages and channels are formed in the main and spindle bearings to direct cooling air to the apposed thrust bearing discs.

  • Patent number: 4951494
Abstract: Rolling mills commonly have rollers with shoulders abutting face plates on the frame of the mill. Dirt collects at the interface of the roller shoulders and face plates. There is no simple way to clean that interfacial area. Novel shields positioned against the roller shoulders and movable therefrom now permit facile cleaning of both the roller shoulders and shields. Frequent cleaning is critical in rolling mills of not only the food industry to prevent bacterial contamination of food products but also other industries where gritty material migrates into the interfacial area of roller shoulders and causes abrasion thereof. The shields can be as simple as stiff plastic sheets.
