  • Patent number: 10267357
Abstract: A tapered roller bearing is used in a planetary gear speed reducer, and includes an outer race, and a retainer formed with a first annular portion, a second annular portion, and pillars. At least one retainer guiding surface (raceway) which guides the retainer in a radial direction is formed only on an inner periphery of the outer race. Guided surfaces are formed at least either on the pillars or on the first and second annular portions, and guided by the at least one retainer guiding surface. Therefore, it is possible to guide an axial central portion or both side portions of the retainer, to make the retainer less likely to tilt due to a centrifugal force, and to apply a preload to both side surfaces of the outer race.

  • Patent number: 8342753
Abstract: A system is disclosed for use in a rolling mill oil film bearing to remove oil exiting from between a rotating sleeve and a fixed bushing surrounding the sleeve. The system comprises an annular chamber arranged to receive the exiting flow of oil. The chamber is isolated from a drainage sump by confinement surfaces including a seal interface defined by a flexible seal in contact with an adjacent rigid component of the bearing. Impellers project into the chamber and are rotable with and at the velocity of the sleeve to rotatively propel oil around the chamber. A discharge conduit communicates tangentially with the chamber and is arranged to receive a pressurized flow of the oil being rotatively propelled around the chamber. A venturi is located in the discharge conduit. A suction conduit connects the venturi to the drainage sump. Oil escaping from the annular chamber past the seal interface into the drainage sump is aspirated by the venturi for removal via the conduit.

  • Patent number: 5102240
Abstract: A rotatable member (3) has on its outside surface a contoured surface portion (15) which widens conically upwards in diameter, is contiguous with a lubricant storage chamber (14) and extends axially to near a bearing (11) by which the rotatable member (3) is rotatably mounted in a housing (4). Lubricant discharging downwardly by gravity from the bearing (11) returns upwardly along the surface part (15) and reaches a zone which is below the bearing (11) and from which the same takes up lubricant. The bearing (11) is therefore supplied with lubricant during the rotation of the rotatable member (3) so that uniform lubrication in a thin layer is ensured. The mounting is used more particularly in a cap of a cap spinning machine or cap twisting machine.

  • Patent number: 5101128
Abstract: Both a closed system and method for cooling a submersible propulsor unit for a water vehicle is provided for a unit of the type that includes a submersible motor having a shaft connected to a propeller, and a housing containing the motor. The system comprises a motor cooling assembly that includes a shaft seal for conducting the shaft outside of the housing while preventing ambient water from entering the housing, a liquid contained within the housing for cooling the motor, a heat exchanger for thermally connecting but mechanically isolating the liquid from the ambient water, an impeller (102) for recirculating the liquid through both the motor and the heat exchanger, and a bellows (128) for equilibrating any pressure differentials between the cooling liquid and the ambient water. A filter assembly (129) mounted within the bellows relieves any pressure differential that is not relieved by the bellows when ambient water pressure is greater than that of the cooling liquid in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4915515
Abstract: The horizontally mounted rotational bearing arrangement for high speeds of rotation is mounted in a casing in two radial rolling bearings. Each radial rolling bearing comprises rolling members guided by an associated cage, and further comprises a groove provided at the shaft and operative as an inner race, as well as an outer race. A respective slinger ring is disposed between each radial rolling bearing and associated cover plate. An impingement surface extends around the associated slinger ring and is in alignment with an operative edge of such slinger ring. This impingement surface is effective for returning lubricant to the rolling members of the associated radial rolling bearing. The cage of each radial rolling bearing is constructed such that by virtue of its movement in operation, the lubricant is conveyed to the rolling members of the associated radial rolling bearing.

  • Patent number: 4772138
Abstract: A sealed antifriction bearing with an inner and outer ring and rolling elements between them includes sealing rings at both axial ends of the annular space between the rings. A sealing ring is fixed to the outer ring and rotates with it. At the inner ring, the sealing ring has a resilient sealing lip with a sealing edge adjacent the inner ring. Projections from the sealing lip project toward the inner ring and are wedge shaped and oriented such that relative rotation of the outer and inner rings causes the projections to convey lubricating oil axially into the annular space between the bearing rings. The sealing lip has a less inclined surface axially inward of the sealing edge and a more sharply inclined surface outward of the sealing edge. The projections are on the sealing lip surface axially inward of the sealing edge.

  • Patent number: 4712442
Abstract: A lubricating mechanism for a rotary machine, such as a Roots blower, of the class having a pair of vertically spaced parallel shafts (20, 22) which are rotated in synchronization with each other by a pair of meshing gears (36, 38) and are provided with bearings (28, 30) and oil seals (40, 42) requiring lubrication. The rotary machine includes an enclosed gear chamber (70) serving to form an oil sump (74) for lubrication of the meshing gears. The lubricating mechanism is intended to lubricate the oil seal (40) and bearing (28) of the upper shaft (20) of the machine located above and remote from the oil sump. The lubricating mechanism comprises a guiding mechanism (80, 82) for positively guiding the lubricant in the oil sump (74) to be entrained in sequence by the lower gear (38) and the upper gear (36) and lifting the lubricant to the upper region of the gear chamber (70).
