  • Patent number: 4696581
Abstract: An improved rolling bearing is proposed which has a longer life under heavy load and under lubrication with oil containing foreign matters. Its bearing rings and rolling elements are made of carburized steel having an oxygen content of 15 PPM or less and have a deeper surface hardened layer and a higher core hardness. It has a longer life even under lubrication with oil containing foreign matters.

  • Patent number: 4659241
Abstract: A rolling element bearing member designed for use in a preselected bearing operation, such as a gas turbine engine, which develops a predetermined operating hoop tensile stress in the member includes a hardened layer contiguous with a ductile core having a hardness less than 50 Rockwell C. For example, the hardened layer is a carburized layer of high hardness in the range of 58-66 Rockwell C. The hardened layer has improved resistance to crack initiation and propagation as a result of providing the layer with compressive residual stress in an amount greater than the predetermined operating hoop tensile stress, for example in the range of about 10-60 ksi to a depth up to about 0.06 inch. Such a member is made by providing a member of a metal alloy having the capability of developing such a hardened layer, and then processing the member to develop the layer in the amount of compression.

  • Patent number: 4634300
Abstract: A rotating member supporting apparatus has a rotating shaft which is inserted to a bore formed in a support member. A rolling bearing is interposed between the rotating shaft and support member and rotatably supports the rotating shaft. The bearing includes an inner and outer rings which have resistance to heat and corrosion, and a plurality of rolling elements rollably arranged between the inner and outer rings. The rolling elements are formed of ceramic material.

  • Patent number: 4621700
Abstract: Wheel bearing with a built-in homokinetic coupling. The wheel bearing comprises a generally annular inner part, an outer race and two rows of rolling elements located between the outside running surfaces formed on the outer race and the inside running surfaces applied to the inner part. The outer race is equipped with a radially extending flange for the attachment of the bearing. The annular inner part is equipped with a radially extending flange to which the hub of a wheel can be attached. The inner part forms at the same time one unit with the outer ring of the homokinetic coupling. The flange of the inner part is extended with a brake element which forms the part to be braked of a braking mechanism so that the inner part of the bearing, the carrier flange for the wheel, the brake element and the outer ring of the homokinetic coupling form one homogeneous unit.

  • Patent number: 4606657
Abstract: A synthetic resin ball bearing. It comprises an outer race, an inner race and a plurality of balls provided therebetween. The outer race is composed of a first cup-shaped member and a second cup-shaped member. Each cup-shaped member has an opening in the center of the floor portion. The first cup-shaped member is sized to snugly fit generally in the second cup-shaped member. The inner race has an annular shape to be positioned to extend through said respective openings in the first and second cup-shaped members to define an annular chamber in cooperation of said first cup-shaped member and the floor wall of the second cup-shaped member. The annular projection extends into the chamber to define a pair of ball receiving sections. The balls are accommodated within the ball receiving sections.

  • Patent number: 4590657
Abstract: In a rolling bearing assembly including at least two contact metal surfaces, such as a rolling bearing engaging a housing and a shaft, a homogeneous elastic layer is fixedly applied to one of said contacting surfaces, the outer surface of this layer having high density and extreme smoothness for full intimate contact with the contacting metal surface to avoid fretting corrosion between said contacting metal surfaces.
