  • Patent number: 4723851
Abstract: A double-row, angular-contact ball bearing unit includes double sided cage, a plurality of balls maintained in first and second circular arrays by the cage and disposed between a one piece outer ring having two races and an inner ring formed of two side by side sections, each having an individual race. Angled deflectible locking fingers extend inwardly from the cage into a locking groove in the inner ring section for the first array at a location between the arrays of balls, and this section extends sideways into the region of the second array. The outer ring is undercut from the outer race having the second array to the side of the outer ring that is remote from the first array. The cage side for the first array is of the comb-type and the cage side for the second array is of the window-type.

  • Patent number: 4641977
Abstract: A bearing system for a high-speed, rotating shaft (20) includes an outer race (12) adapted to be rotatable in its machine support and ( 32) to carry a rolling bearing (16), such as a ball bearing, at one end and further includes a floating sleeve bearing (14) at the other end. The outer race of the system can be adapted to rotate on a film of lubricant at a speed less than one-third, and preferably about one-tenth, that of the rotating shaft. The bearing system can include thrust-bearing surfaces (12c, 12d) at one end of the outer race and surfaces to permit lubrication of the sleeve and rolling bearings. The floating sleeve bearing is free to rotate at speeds of about one-half the speed of the rotating shaft. The system thus can provide very low bearing losses and a long bearing life.

  • Patent number: 4611933
Abstract: The disclosure concerns accurate axial and radial fastening of the bearings of, for instance, a bicycle pedal crank. An intermediate sleeve of deformable material is arranged between the outer race of the bearing on the shaft and the housing for the pedal crank. There is underdimensioning between the intermediate sleeve and the outer race, on the one hand, and the housing borehole on the other hand, and the outer race having teeth.

  • Patent number: 4606658
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a two-row angular-contact ball bearing with axially spaced apart inner races defined on a shaft and outer rings with outer races disposed around the inner races. The outer rings are held apart by a bushing, and a spring inside the bushing presses one outer ring away from the other. At each outer ring is a respective cage for the bearing balls and the cage has a T-shaped cross section with the leg of the T being the prongs between adjacent balls and the cross bar of the T resting on one radial side on a collar defined on the shaft and at the other radial side which is radially outwardly of the collar, on the end of the respective outer ring, and with the cage resting there, the balls are in the inner race. The cage includes elements surrounding the balls and defining pockets and at least some of the sections of the pockets are resilient to expand as the balls are moved over the shaft toward the race and to return to shape after the balls have entered the inner race.

  • Patent number: 4603983
Abstract: A two-row angular contact ball bearing with two axially spaced inner races arranged in the shaft and outer rings with outer races disposed around the inner races. The outer rings are held apart by a bushing. One end of the bushing rests against one of the outer rings. The other end of the bushing has a radially enlarged end section which extends over the other outer ring and defines a free space between the other outer ring and a shoulder at the beginning of the enlarged section of the bushing. An annular, conical spring is in the free space between the outer ring and the shoulder. A cutout in the bushing enables installation of hardening material in the free space radially outside the annular spring for rigidifying the spacing of the bearings once the shaft carrying the bearings has been installed in a final installation.
