Patent number: 5667312Abstract: The invention provides a roller bearing apparatus including an inner ring member supported for rotation on a sleeve, an outer ring member, rollers in the raceway space defined between the inner and outer ring members, and a guide member having roller seats against which inboard end portions of the rollers are seated. To promote roller precession when the roller bearing apparatus is used in an oscillatory application, the roller seats are slanted or pitched in a circumferential direction and at least the inboard end portions of the rollers are provided with non-planar, and in one embodiment frustoconical, end faces. Cooperation between the non-planar end faces of the rollers and the pitched roller seats controls the mean skew axes of the rollers to promote consistent roller precession through the bearing load zone, and enables increased freedom of movement of the rollers to minimize friction. This increases the life of the roller bearing by reducing roller related failures.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1994Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Rexnord CorporationInventors: Mark R. Patent number: 4783181Abstract: In an automatic self-aligning roller bearing including an inner race, an outer race and a plurality of rolling bodies disposed between the inner race and outer race, a radius of each of track grooves on the inner race and a radius of track groove on the outer race have a predetermined relationship established therebetween. Thus, a pressure developed on both the inner and outer races is simultaneously uniformly distributed as seen in the axial direction under a condition in proximity of a designed load whereby a running life of both the inner and outer races can be elongated. Consequently, a well balanced roller bearing of the above-mentioned type having a long running life is provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1988Date of Patent: November 8, 1988Assignee: Nippon Seiko Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hirotoshi Takata

Patent number: 4761084Abstract: A redundant-race bearing system according to this invention incorporates a pair of ring-shaped race members. The race members are coaxial and axially spaced apart from one another. Each race member has a radial cross-section that includes a plurality of tracks. These tracks form a confining pattern that enables lateral and axial restraint.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1987Date of Patent: August 2, 1988Assignee: AEC-Able Engineering Company, Inc.Inventors: Max D. Patent number: 4755067Abstract: The invention refers to a seal for self-aligning spherical rolling bearings. It is characterized therein that it incorporates two cooperating annular and mainly radially directed plates affixed to one ring each. One of the plates is equipped with at least one annular sealing lip, which exerts a mainly axial pressure against the second plate.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1987Date of Patent: July 5, 1988Assignee: SKF NovaInventors: Sture Asberg, Matts Floderus, Gunnar Grafstrom, Olle Andersson

Patent number: 4714359Abstract: A rolling bearing arrangement for supporting a journal of a work roll has two cylindrical rolling bearings for carrying radial loads and an inclined rolling bearing for carrying axial loads arranged between the cylindrical rolling bearings. The rows of rolling bodies of the inclined rolling bearing have radially inwardly directed lines of load transmission and are displaceable on at least one of the respective raceways in both directions transverse to the rolling direction. The end surfaces of the inner ring of the inclined rolling bearing are slidably displaceable in a substantially radial direction on the opposing end surfaces of the inner rings of the cylindrical rolling bearings. The radial play between the inner ring of the inclined rolling bearing and the journal is greater than the radial play between the inner rings of the cylindrical rolling bearings and the journal.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1987Date of Patent: December 22, 1987Assignee: SKF GmbHInventors: Heinrich Winter, Walter Kufner

Patent number: 4707151Abstract: Radial rolling bearing with adjustable clearance comprising two concentric races whose outer facing surface areas are provided with a groove, the grooves defining the raceway for the rolling elements, a slot is provided in the area of the center plane of the rolling bearing extending radially from the bottom of one of the grooves over only a portion of the race depth so that the slotted race has a partial raceway at both sides of the slot wherein the slot width is changeable by means acting on the race and causing a deformation of the race, characterized in that at least one partial track (6) is defined by a race wire (7) which is provided with rounded back (8) at the one side facing the race (1) and is swingably mounted relative to the race (1) in a circumferential groove (9) of the latter.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1987Date of Patent: November 17, 1987Assignee: INA Walzlager Schaeffler KGInventor: Theodor Kaiser

Patent number: 4605320Abstract: A support is provided for high-precision, long threaded spindles which are extremely thin, and which are employed in systems in electronic reproduction technology, machine tools, measuring instruments, and the like. The support includes a bearing block pivotable in three dimensions through use of a hemispherical support bearing. The bearing block has two rollers thereon, one of which is slightly tiltable.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1985Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Assignee: Dr. Ing. Patent number: 4595302Abstract: A bearing device for wheel axles, in particular for the axles of a railway car bogie, is such that a bearing housing encloses a wheel bearing comprising an inner ring fitted on the axle and an outer ring with rollers, balls or the like between the said rings, the inner ring being held securely in place by a nut screwed on to the said axle. Energy storage means, to accommodate forces acting on the wheel bearing in the operating position, are provided between the wheel bearing and the bearing housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1984Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Assignee: Swiss Aluminium Ltd.Inventors: Urs Attinger, Serge Lutschg

Patent number: 4552073Abstract: A monorail carriage for use with H-beams wherein carriage rollers mounted on frame-cantilevered shafts remain in continuing full-length running engagement with the monorail beam flanges throughout varying downward load deflection of such flanges. Rockable roller bearing elements at opposite ends of each roller include one which is spring loaded so as to force translation or displacement of the roller in response to flange deflection so as to maintain such full-length contact of the roller with the beam flange, although with attendant shift of the center of pressure lengthwise of the roller on the track flange.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Assignee: Beebe International, Inc.Inventor: Glenn S.
