  • Patent number: 5551226
Abstract: A disk for use in a bearing assembly of an open end spinning machine having four disks arranged in two pairs and which operate at up to 15,000 RPM's while the rotor shaft turns at up to 125,000 RPM's. The disk pairs are arranged to form a wedge shaped gap supporting the shaft of a spinning rotor for rotation. Each disk comprises a metallic hub which mounts a synthetic ring. The synthetic ring has a spinning rotor contact surface comprising a shoulder arranged atop a helically disposed rib which extends around and across the contact surface. The shoulder imparts an axial thrust against the spinning rotor during operation of the spinning machine.

  • Patent number: 5433536
Abstract: A thrust bearing assembly includes a bearing housing and a shaft supported therein in a front and rear spherical thrust roller bearings. First and second spring devices are provided to pre-load the front and rear bearings. The bearing pre-load exerted by the first spring device acts on the front bearing in a direction opposed to a working load applied to the front bearing. The first spring device removes the spring force from the front bearing race rings, when exposed to a working load exceeding the load exerted by the first spring device. The first and second spring devices under working load and idle conditions being arranged to provide clearance between the rear bearing outer race and a bearing housing seat for the rear bearing outer race for allowing tilting of the outer race in order to compensate for radial oscillations, thereby avoiding rubbing movement between the outer race ring and the housing.

  • Patent number: 5154518
Abstract: A bearing chocking assembly for mill rolls includes an inner ring engageable with the bearing structure and having on its outer face axially inclined wedge-shaped cam surfaces. These surfaces are arranged to come into contact with similar mating surfaces on the inward face on an outer ring. Both of the rings have circumferential flanges with axial holes around their entire circumference to enable the flanges to be bolted together upon being rotated to effect axial positioning of the assembly. The inner ring rests on a surface of the mill roll shaft and is secured in place by a split thrust ring disposed in the shaft groove. This assembly enables a mill roll to be removed for regrinding and replaced without separating the rings from one another and avoids the need for removing a split inner adjustment ring from the groove. Provision of flanges with holes around their entire circumferences allows for fine adjustments over a wide range of positions.

Abstract: A first shim mounted on the shaft extending from the high pressure end face of a screw rotor in a screw compressor establishes the operating clearance between the high pressure end face of the rotor and the high pressure end wall of the compressor's working chamber by fixing the axial position of a bearing group which is likewise mounted on the rotor shaft. A second shim, disposed between the bearing group and a spring biased spacer element, is determinative of the distance the spacer element, and therefore the rotor, can travel in a direction toward the high pressure end of the compressor under the impetus of reverse axial thrust. Contact of the rotor with the high pressure end wall of the working chamber is positively precluded because movement of the spacer element, under the influence of rotor movement toward the high pressure end of the compressor, collapses the biasing spring which causes the spacer element to contact a fixed surface of the compressor.

The hydraulic pressure of the fluid is maintained through an accumulator at a preselectable constant pressure to permit the outer races to translate axially, against the annular piston, as the inner race expands radially due to thermal expansion. Upon thermal contraction, the pressure forces the annular pistons axially toward the outer races, which, due to the taper of the races and the bearing elements, reduces the clearance created due to the thermal contraction.

  • Patent number: 4553858
Abstract: A bottom plate for emplacement in a bushing having an opening defined by an internal peripheral side wall and a bottom of the bushing. A pin, like the pin of a universal joint cross piece, is received in the opening of the bushing with rollers around the periphery of the pin for permitting rotation of the pin in the opening of the bushing. The bottom plate is disposed between the bottom end of the pin and the bottom of the bushing. Radially extending lubricant distribution grooves are defined in the bottom plate. First ones of the grooves extend over the region beneath the bottom end of the pin along the side of the bottom plate opening toward the pin. Second ones of the grooves extend over the region of the bottom plate beneath the rollers along the side of the plate and opening toward the bottom of the bushing. A step-like transition is defined between the first and the second ones of the grooves in the bottom plate.
