  • Patent number: 8328429
Abstract: A radial anti-friction bearing, which has an outer and inner bearing race with an inner and outer raceway and cylinder rollers that roll on the raceways between the bearing races and which are held at equal distances to each other in the peripheral direction by a bearing cage. To prevent slip, the cylinder rollers are replaced by hollow rollers, which have a larger outside diameter and lower modulus of elasticity. The dimensions of the bearing races, cylinder rollers and hollow rollers are configured such that both the cylinder and hollow rollers initially have a defined radial bearing clearance in the non-installed state of the radial anti-friction bearing, and the pretension necessary for the continuous drive of the bearing cage is adjusted on the hollow rollers only once the radial anti-friction bearing has been installed, while simultaneously reducing the radial bearing clearance at the cylinder rollers.

  • Patent number: 8033738
Abstract: A bearing assembly is provided including at least one needle roller that is resiliently compressible in response to a load applied to an exterior surface thereof. In addition, a method is provided for taking up a clearance between one or more first rollers and a bearing race in which the rollers are positioned. At least one resiliently compressible second roller is provided rollably secured within the bearing. The compressible second roller has an outer diameter greater than an outer diameter of any of the first rollers, such that the compressible second roller resiliently compresses when the bearing is positioned in the bearing race. Forces generated by compression of the resiliently compressible second roller urge the first rollers against a surface of the bearing race, thereby taking up the clearance between the first rollers and the race.

  • Patent number: 8007185
Abstract: The radial rolling bearing has an outer bearing ring, an inner bearing ring, and spherical rollers arranged between bearing rings. The spherical rollers have two flat side faces arranged parallel to one another. The spherical rollers are retained with uniform spacing to one another in the peripheral direction by a bearing cage. The spherical rollers have a width between their side faces of approximately 70% of the diameter of their spherical basic shape. The running faces of the rollers roll in two groove-shaped raceways which are formed in the inner side of the outer bearing ring and in the outer side of the inner bearing ring. At least one of the axial rims which delimit the groove-shaped raceways is reduced in radial height such that the radial bearing can be equipped with an increased number of spherical rollers in an axial assembly process.

  • Patent number: 5071265
Abstract: A roller bearing assembly for both radial and axial loads comprises an annular series of hollow roller bearings within associated inner and outer annular bearing races. Each race has an integral end flange which projects generally radially toward the opposite race and which defines an axially inwardly facing parti-circular annular thrust surface. The flanges are arranged at axially opposite diagonal locations so that the thrust surfaces diagonally oppose each other in the axial direction. The roller bearings have parti-circular rim surfaces which engage the thrust surfaces and with the bearings preloaded both radially and axially enhanced stiffness and running accuracy is achieved. In a second form, annular recesses provide opposite end flanges on the roller bearings with enhanced axial flexibility. Bearing assemblies may be employed in axially adjacent pairs in machine tool spindles and the like.

Roller bearings, hollow by diameter in the range 55% to 75% are disposed between the shoulders and in loose engagement with the inner and outer races during initial assembly. The bearings are thereafter pressed onto a shaft for preloading and assembly is thus completed. A method for making bearings involves the provision of the bearing as described with a loose assembly of the elements. The mounting method involves the press fitting of the loosely assembled elements on a shaft where upon preloading is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4741632
Abstract: A ball structure for stabilizing bearing torque in high speed, preloaded, angular contact load supporting ball bearings operating on elastohydrodynamic lubricant films. Angular momentum developed about a ball spin axis that is not parallel to the bearing rotation axis results in a continuous creep of the ball about the momentum axis, thereby allowing a long term preload and torque variation. The improved ball set is shaped so that each ball has a mass inertia about its desired spin axis that is greater than about all other axes, so as to develop a restoring moment tending to maintain rotation about a fixed axis in each ball. The ball cage is configured to maintain ball alignment during run-up and run-down of the bearing.
