    Abstract: A device for damping a rolling bearing includes a support and a radially flexible cage. The cage includes a ring provided in order to be mounted on the periphery of a rolling bearing. The radial flexibility of this cage results from the structure thereof which is perforated by oblique posts connecting the ring to an attachment annulus of this cage. The support includes a plurality of teeth each extending radially through a respective inter-post opening of the cage. The ring and the support form, radially between one another, a fluid damping cavity suitable for forming a compressed fluid film. The device allows a controlled radial movement of the ring, the latter being radially limited by the support, while having a limited footprint.

A vibration damping mechanism 1 is formed by inserting a thin, flat sheet 17 provided with slits into an annular space formed between the inner wall of the bearing holding bore 16 and the outside surface of a bearing held in the bearing holding bore 16 so as to surround the bearing. Parts of the thin, flat sheet extending between the adjacent slits serve as elastic beams. The elastic beams center the bearing and support the centered bearing elastically.

The bore in the inner race ring of the bearing receives a depending shaft journal that is fixed to the second coupling arm. An arrangement is provided to damp radial forces acting upon the coupling and to compensate for misalignment between the axes of the through-bore and the shaft journal. In this regard, the through-bore is provided with an elastic lining of resilient material, and the bearing used is an angularly self-aligning rolling bearing that permits a certain degree of misalignment between the through-bore and the shaft journal. The bearing is fitted inside the lining, which is thereby adapted to take up and dampen radial forces acting upon the coupling.

    Abstract: An improved structure supports a bearing in a bore provided in a portion of a transmission case and prevents relative rotation therebetween. In a preferred embodiment, the clutch housing portion of a transmission case is made from aluminum and includes an interior wall having a bore formed therein. A circumferential groove is formed in the side wall of the bore, and a compressible or elastomeric O-ring is disposed in the groove. A bearing is made from steel and includes an inner race, an outer race, and a plurality of rollers disposed between the races. As the bearing is pressed into the bore, the O-ring is compressed completely within the groove. So long as both the aluminum clutch housing and the steel outer race of the bearing remain in a relatively cold condition, the outer race will frictionally engage the inner surface of the bore, thus preventing any relative rotational movement therebetween.
