Patent number: 5232342Abstract: A high pressure multi-stage centrifugal pump with an axially split casing (10) and a number of impellers (14) carried by a drive shaft (12) has inter-stage bushings (24) and rings (22) for sealing each side of each impeller. Each bushing (24) or ring (22) is conventionally prevented from rotating by a radial pin protruding from the lower half of the casing (10) into an axial slot in the periphery of the bushing or ring. The pin is necessarily small and is liable to shear, difficult to engage in the slot and, in cases where the bushing (24) or ring (22) is diametrically split, does not allow rotation of the lower half for its removal without lifting the shaft (12). To avoid all these disadvantages, without introducing any risk of leakage, a tangential pin (32) is fitted in a blind hole (34) in the casing (10) so that its exposed end (37) is flush with the joint face (28) of the casing and abuts against a shoulder ( 44) formed by a recess (38) in the periphery of the bushing (24) or ring (22).Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1992Date of Patent: August 3, 1993Assignee: David Brown Engineering LimitedInventor: Peter Thompson

Patent number: 5207512Abstract: A spherical roller bearing is confined in a bearing ring which, in turn, is confined in a bearing housing, the housing and the ring each being of split construction. The housing has a pair of il reservoirs therein separated by a saddle upon which the ring is mounted, and an anti-rotation pin engages both the housing and the ring to prohibit rotation of the latter in the former. The ring, too, has an oil reservoir therewithin. The ring and pin, and accordingly the bearing, are electrically isolated from the housing. An oil ring rides upon a bearing-mounted motor shaft through slots formed in the bearing ring, and is guided by machined reliefs formed in opposite sides of the bearing ring. Holes in the saddle provide for a through-flow of oil between the pair of reservoirs in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1992Date of Patent: May 4, 1993Assignee: Dresser-Rand CompanyInventors: Jerome D. Patent number: 4729674Abstract: A bearing composed of an inner race, two outer races concentric therewith and spaced axially from each other to leave a gap between them. Sets of ball bearings are located between the inner race and each of the two outer races. The outer races are provided with shoulders projecting axially toward one another and the whole is secured by a band wrapped circumferentially around the shoulders. Preferably, the band is thinner than the outer races so that part of the gap remains. The band is somewhat longer than the circumference and the ends are turned radially outwardly and fastened together. In a particularly improved form of the device, frames are located in the gap and are releasably fastened to one another. The width of the gap is larger than the thickness of the frames, so that there is a certain amount of play in the bearing. This provides a self-aligning feature.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1986Date of Patent: March 8, 1988Assignee: Metallized Carbon CorporationInventors: Craig Siebert, Martin Scott

Patent number: 4685172Abstract: A bush element for supporting a rod or shaft in a side plate has portion for entry into a generally circular aperture in the side plate. The portion of the bush has tooth shaped projections extending radially outwardly such that the overall diameter of the portion exceeds that of the aperture. The aperture is enlarged at a position to receive the projections so that rotation of the bush in the side plate results in the extremities of the teeth being cut away by the side plate to ensure a precise fit of the bush in the side plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1986Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignee: Data Recording Instrument Company LimitedInventor: Dermot J. Patent number: 4606656Abstract: A bearing in which a locking or locating pin is used to substantially prevent relative motion between its outer race and its housing, the locking pin preferably being formed by a cold heading technique from a slug of metal so, as to have a generally cylindrical sleeve and a pin-like member in the sleeve which extends therefrom. When an axial compressive force is applied to the locking pin, the pin-like member telescopes into the sleeve, thereby preventing damage to the outer race of the bearing.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1985Date of Patent: August 19, 1986Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: Albert M. Patent number: 4605103Abstract: The invention relates to a multi-disc brake comprising a stationary rotary disc (1) and a movable rotary disc (2) which is mounted on a splined sleeve (5) sliding on a splined part (3a) of a hub (3) which has an axis (4) and with which the disc (1) is solid. An assembly of friction blocks (6 to 9) can interact with the discs (1, 2) under the action of a hydraulic jack (13). These blocks occupy a limited angular sector over the periphery of the discs. The splines (23, 25) of the hub and of the sleeve have shaped flanks. A ring (30) for guiding the sleeve (5) radially relative to the hub (3) is provided at each of its ends, so as to prevent any jamming of the sleeve (5) because of the tendency of the disc (2) to rock under the action of the jack (13).Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1984Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Assignee: Societe Anonyme D.B.A.Inventors: Jean-Jacques Carre, Ghislain Escarabajal
