Multiple Pole Multiple Throw Patents (Class 385/20)
  • Patent number: 5247594
Abstract: A waveguide-type optical matrix switch including as its switching element a Mach-Zehnder interferometer which includes two directional couplers and an optical phase shifter. The two directional couplers are arranged by placing two optical waveguides in close proximity at two positions on a substrate, and have an identical coupling ratio. The optical phase shifter is disposed over at least one of the two optical waveguides between the directional couplers. The two optical waveguides have an effective optical path length difference of half a wavelength of a light signal between the two directional couplers, and are intersected in the optical switch element. The waveguide-type optical matrix switch is little affected by fabrication errors in the coupling ratio of the directional couplers, and superior in the extinction ratio.

  • Patent number: 5222166
Abstract: An improved aircraft fiber optic data distribution system which includes an LRM coupled by a blind mateable electric pin connector in an avionics cabinet, to an optical data link which converts the electrical signals into optical signals which is then provided through a switch system to a distant display device which is coupled to second optical data link by a blind mateable electrical pin connector which provides for the ability of an LRM to communicate with a display device over a fiber optic system without the need for blind mateable optical connectors.

  • Patent number: 5185825
Abstract: Disclosed in an optical switching connector provided with a first and second ferrule disposed with end faces thereof abutting on each other and two reference pins disposed in parallel at a predetermined interval. The first and second ferrules have two parallel pin holes, respectively. The two reference pins are inserted in the pin holes. The pin holes have an elongated sectional shape enabling the reference pins to move laterally by exactly a certain movement pitch. The first and second ferrules are able to be positioned at one position determined by one of the inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins and another position determined by the other inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins.

  • Patent number: 5078514
Abstract: Switch and system for the switching of integrated optical multichannels and switch production method. The switch comprises a substrate (2) supporting a buffer film (12), a recess (24) made in the buffer film and the substrate, one input microguide (18) and two adjacent output microguides (20, 22), the input and output microguides being disposed on both sides of the recess and orientated approximately along a first direction, a flexible girder (26) defined in the buffer film and equipped with a central microguide (32) over its entire length orientated along the first direction, this girder comprising one free extremity able to deform in the recess along a second direction parallel to the surface of the substrate and perpendicular to the first direction, the central microguide being situated in the prolongation of the input microguide, and excitation means (36, 38, 44, 46, 40, 48) to bring the free extremity of the central microguide of the girder into the prolongation of one of the output microguides.

  • Patent number: 5056886
Abstract: An optical switching device includes a first optical fiber terminating in a first window, and a plurality of second optical fibers each terminating in a corresponding second window. A concave mirror is selectively positionable with conjugate foci located respectively at the first window and selectively at any one of the second windows so as to reciprocally image the first window and a selected second window on each other. The imaging mirror is rotated about an axis spaced from and parallel to the optical axis of the mirror, so as to rotate the mirror among a plurality of arcuately spaced selected positions. In each selected position the imaging means closes a light circuit between the first optical fiber and a selected second optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 5050955
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fibreoptic switch for enabling one or more of n number of incoming optofibers to be connected selectively with a respective one of m number of outgoing optofibers. According to the invention, the switch includes a matrix block (1) having light transmitting devices (2) which extend in n number of rows and m number of columns between an input side and an output side. On the input side, the incoming optofibers (3) can be displaced linearly along a respective row of the rows of light transmitting devices (2), and the outgoing optofibers (6) on the output side can be displaced linearly along a respective column of the columns of light transmitting devices (2). A selected incoming optofibre (3) can therewith be displaced along its corresponding row to a desired column of light transmitting devices (2), and an outgoing optofiber (6) in a corresponding column can be displaced to a corresponding row of light transmitting devices (2), so as to mutually connect the selected optofibers.
