Abstract: Techniques for supplementing a video clip with additional information without modifying the original content included within the video clip are disclosed herein. A video clip comprising multiple video frames is generated. A layer, which is to be associated with the video clip, is also generated. This layer initializes and terminates during a duration of the video clip. An association is formed between the layer and the video clip. Layer content is added to the layer to cause the layer content to supplement content visualized by the video clip without modifying the content visualized by the video clip. In response to the video clip being played, the layer is initialized and the layer content is displayed.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a media sharing application. The media sharing application may include a creator, player, and user function. The media sharing apparatus may include a processor, a memory, a playlist component, a sharing component, and a media access component. The playlist component plays media, provides the user with the ability to make a playlist, create artwork for the playlist, and include personal text and audio messages. The sharing component shares the playlist with another user or users. The media access component provides the media sharing application with media from various sources.

Abstract: In some aspects, control circuitry receives and stores a user-specified time duration to associate with a skip-forward command. When the user later issues a skip-forward command to advance playback of a media asset to a desired location, the control circuitry retrieves the stored time duration, and determines an expected overshoot value associated with the skip-forward command. The control circuitry then compensates for the expected overshoot by calculating a new location in the media asset based on both the retrieved time duration and expected overshoot value. Upon advancing to the new location, the media asset is played back in a fast-forward mode, e.g., at a speed higher than normal speed.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes activating, by a processor, a privacy notifier mechanism in a recording system to transmit a privacy notification signal when a camera in the recording system is in a ready state to capture images. The method further includes detecting blocking of transmission of the privacy notification signal, and responsive to detecting blocking of the transmission of the privacy notification signal by the processor, disabling the camera.

Abstract: Generating a self-guided augmented reality (AR) session plan from a remotely-guided AR session held between a remote user and a local user, by: Receiving data recorded during the remotely-guided AR session. Segmenting the data into temporal segments that correspond to steps performed by the local user during the remotely-guided AR session. The steps are detected using at least one of: a Natural-Language Understanding (NLU) algorithm applied to a conversation included in the data, to detect utterances indicative of step-to-step transitions; location analysis of annotations included in the data, to detect location differences indicative of step-to-step transitions; and analysis of camera pose data included in the data, to detect pose transitions indicative of step-to-step transitions. Abstract: Systems and methods are described to identify jump points indicative of potential time points from which to resume consumption of the media asset in response to receiving a request to skip a portion of a media asset being consumed. The jump points include a first jump point identified based on a content viewing profile and a second jump point identified based on a scene information associated with the media asset. A preview image is displayed at each of the identified jump points. Systems and methods are also described to pause the skipping operation at the identified jump points and provide a preview at the respective jump points. Systems and method are further described to identify jump points based on analysis of the portion of the media asset being skipped.

Abstract: The playback of a media file can be adjusted for portions where the content may be of less interest to a viewer. The audio content can be analyzed to locate portions of the media file that might be appropriate for compression, such as during periods of relative silence. Information for the beginning or end of such a period can be stored as compression cues associated with the media file. During an encoding of the file, the compression cues and associated time code data can be used to incorporate playback adjustment information in the media file. A player playing the media file can determine whether to adjust the playback based on this information, such as to increase a frame rate of the playback during periods of silence and return the frame rate to a standard rate for the media file at the end of those periods.

The daemon sends a request to the media application and receives media information from the application. A bubble is created for each theme or event. The users submit the media over the Internet or another network with an indication of a particular bubble the media pertains to. The media in the bubble is examined for objects, audio, engagement metrics, faces, and various other accompanying markers, which are then used to identify media or fragments of media for inclusion in an automatic montage, with music and transition effects.

Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a method is performed at an electronic device. The device displays a first user interface including a background with a first appearance and foreground objects. While displaying the first user interface, the device detects a first input at a location in the first user interface that corresponds to the background of the first user interface. In response, if the contact has a characteristic intensity above a first intensity threshold, the device dynamically changes the background without changing the foreground objects, wherein the dynamic change in the background is based on the characteristic intensity of the contact. Abstract: Systems and methods for providing ambient awareness are provided. An example method includes receiving an acoustic signal representing at least one captured ambient sound and determining that at least one triggering event has occurred based at least on the acoustic signal, a user profile, and a user context. In response to the determination, the method proceeds to modify, based on the at least one triggering event, the acoustic signal which represents the at least one captured ambient sound. The modified acoustic signal is provided to at least one ear canal of a user. In an exemplary embodiment, ambient sounds are selectively passed through automatically to a user based on certain triggering events, allowing a user to be able to hear sounds outside of headset while the user is wearing the headset. The triggering events may be selected by the user, for example, using a smartphone application.

The set of time points and/or fingerprints used to retrieve/recover the set of time points can be delivered to one or more of a media device, a companion device/application, etc., in any of a variety of different methods. Through the set of time points and/or fingerprints, and user preferences, the auxiliary content can be retrieved by the one or more of the media device, the companion device/application, etc., presented and/or interacted with a user. Abstract: An optical sensor may be integrated into headphones and feedback from the sensor used to adjust an audio output from the headphones. For example, an emergency vehicle traffic preemption signal may be detected by the optical sensor. Optical signals may be processed in a pattern discriminator, which may be integrated with an audio controller integrated circuit (IC). When the signal is detected, the playback of music through the headphones may be muted and/or a noise cancellation function turned off. The optical sensor may be integrated in a music player, a smart phone, a tablet, a cord-mounted module, or the earpieces of the headphones.

Abstract: Reducing head end server demand for cable television/services systems with point-to-point Media on Demand content delivery is provided. Upon receiving a request for media content, a content table may be requested from one or more neighboring network-connected devices to search for the requested content. If the requested content is found, the content may be provided to the requesting device from the neighboring device. If the requested content is not found on a neighboring device, a hub server station may be queried for the requested media content. The media content may be provided by the head end server if the content is not available on a neighboring device or the hub server. Embodiments may reduce demand on the head end server and free the head end server capacity for other uses.

Thus, the viewer may better perceive the content being output by the remote control device than the content being fast forwarded on the separate display device. The outputting of content may be by the remote control device providing video, a static display, and/or audio. Upon the remote control device instructing the fast forwarding at the display device to stop and return to a play mode, the remote control device terminates the outputting of the content from the remote control device.

Abstract: Embodiments disclose systems and methods for variable speed playback with bi-directionality. One example implementation may comprise a computing device receiving a request to modify a playback speed of a recorded program. In response, the computing device may provide an interactive menu that enables the selection of a new playback speed for the computing device to provide the recorded program to a graphical interface (e.g., television). The computing device may further receive a selection of a given playback speed for the computing device to provide the recorded program to the graphical interface and process the video component and the corresponding audio component of the program for playout at the given playback speed.
