Abstract: A method is provided that includes setting, by a controller, a first bit-rate level for a next video segment, and comparing a fill level of a playback buffer to a first threshold. If the fill level of the playback buffer satisfies the first threshold, the first bit-rate level for the next video segment is replaced by setting a second bit-rate level for the next video. A first request is issued to a server for the next video segment encoded at the first bit-rate level or, if the fill level of the playback buffer satisfies the first threshold, encoded at the second bit-rate level and downloading of the requested next video segment and storing the requested video segment in the playback buffer. A decoder decodes the next video segment from the playback buffer for playback on a display device after the next video segment has been downloaded and stored in the playback buffer.

A display apparatus includes: a display, and a controller connected to the display, the controller is configured to: display a first interface on the display; in response to no operation for the first interface reaching a first time threshold, create a screensaver display interface by a screensaver application in the display apparatus, where the screensaver display interface is transparent with respect to the first interface; present the screensaver display interface on the display without blocking the first interface presented on the display; create a screensaver view comprising a plurality of screensaver interfaces by the screensaver application; and present the first screensaver interface in the screensaver view on the screensaver display interface to block the first interface, where the first access entry and the first presentation material are visible for a user and the first access entry is available for selection by the user.

Abstract: A playback device includes programming for connecting to a first wireless local area network (WLAN) and storing a first set of network configuration parameters including an identifier of the first WLAN and a first security parameter for the first WLAN. The functions also include disconnecting from the first WLAN, receiving a second set of network configuration parameters including an identifier of a second WLAN and a second security parameter for the second WLAN, and storing the second set of network configuration parameters. The functions also include reconnecting to the first WLAN using the stored first set of network configuration parameters and, after reconnecting to the first WLAN, transmitting, absent user request, the second set of network configuration parameters to at least one other playback device that is connected to the first WLAN for storage on the at least one other playback device that is connected to the first WLAN.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in conventional media systems via a novel technique to prevent corruption of a user's viewing profile. In some aspects, a user of an interactive media guidance application may select a media asset for viewing on a user device. The interactive media guidance application may receive a user viewing profile for the user from a remote server. If the media asset is determined to not be consistent with the user viewing profile, the interactive media guidance application may retrieve another user viewing profile for another user of the user device. If the media asset is determined to be consistent with the other user viewing profile, the interactive media guidance application may update the other user viewing profile based on the media asset.

Abstract: A vehicular apparatus is provided in which a plurality of operating systems each perform a display on a display device. The vehicular apparatus includes a controller unit. The controller unit is configured to implement a virtual environment to operate the plurality of operating systems. The controller is further configured to monitor and detect a malfunction in the display performed on the display device in the virtual environment, and to shield a display area where an incorrect display may be performed in response to the malfunction being detected.

Abstract: An adapter device communicates with a sink device and a source device using first and second communication schemes, respectively. The adapter device includes: a transceiver receiving a state read request by detecting that a serial data line connected between the adapter device and the sink device is driven to a low level when a serial clock line connected therebetween is at a high level, and drive the serial data line to the low level and drive the serial clock line to a low level; a transmitter transmitting the state read request to the source device after the serial clock line is driven to the low level; and a receiver receiving a state read signal to read data of a state register in the sink device from the source device, wherein the transceiver transmits the state read signal to the sink device via the serial data line.

A switching arrangement is assigned only to the aircraft seat and connected between the voltage output and the voltage supply connection and/or between the data connection and a data network. A control unit is assigned only to the aircraft seat and connected to the switching arrangement. An infrared reading device is connected to the control unit and assigned only to the aircraft seat to wirelessly receive infrared signals from an external infrared transmitting device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for summarizing captions, configuring playback speed, and rewriting the caption file for a media asset are disclosed. The system determines whether to display the original captions or a summarized version of the captions, which are based on user's language proficiency level, reading pace, and historical data, and can be generated either on-demand or automatically when rewinds and pauses are detected. The caption file which includes the original captions can be rewritten. The system determines whether to stream a caption or a rewritten file to a media device based on user or system selections. In the absence of a caption file, or when the caption file cannot be summarized, the playback speed of the media asset is slowed down to provide additional reading time to the user.

Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method for controlling auxiliary device access to computing devices based on device functionality descriptors may include (i) detecting a connection of an auxiliary device to a client computing device, (ii) receiving a set of functionality descriptors from the auxiliary device, each functionality descriptor of the set of functionality descriptors identifying a separate functionality of the auxiliary device, (iii) determining whether the set of functionality descriptors matches a set of reference descriptors, and (iv) performing a security action based on the determination of whether the set of functionality descriptors matches the set of reference descriptors. Abstract: A method and device for optimal playback positioning in video content are provided. The present disclosure relates to a mechanism of tagging scenes or significant points in content in a prioritized way, and defines a mechanism to utilize this tagging associated with the content to facilitate stopping or starting at appropriate points for playback, e.g., when pressing a scene skip button to jump forward or back to another scene, or when pressing Play after inputting a fast-forward or rewind instruction. The method and device provide for displaying video content at a playback speed for viewing, receiving a first navigation instruction to navigate the video content at a speed faster than the playback speed for viewing, receiving a second navigation instruction to displaying of the video content, and determining a playback position of the video content based on at least one tagged frame of the video content.

Abstract: A screen recording method computes an encoding delay for each frame of a screen of an electronic device. The frame is encoded by a first compression algorithm if the encoding delay is short. The frame is encoded by an second compression algorithm if the encoding delay is middle and a time interval between the encoding time of a previous frame and the encoding time of a current frame does not exceed a first preset time interval. The frame is encoded by a third compression algorithm if the encoding delay is long and a time interval between the encoding time of a previous frame and the encoding time of a current frame exceeds a second preset time interval.

Abstract: Scene-based program accessing systems and methods are operable to present a program at a scene corresponding to a selected thumbnail-sized image. An exemplary embodiment selects a plurality of image frames from a program based upon a scene separation duration; generates a thumbnail-sized image from each of the selected image frames, and presents the plurality of thumbnail-sized images on a scene index. The scene index is configured to present the plurality of thumbnail-sized images in a time ordered sequence corresponding to a subject matter presentation sequence of the program, and each of the selected image frames are temporally separated from each other by the scene separation duration.
