Abstract: At step S301, since none of conveyance sensors 114, 116 and 121 detect residual paper, a CPU 203 notifies a CPU 201 that it is in a residual paper check start instruction waiting mode. At step S302, since a conveying path sensor 111 in an optional paper feed unit 101 does not detect residual paper, the CPU 202 notifies the CPU 201 that it is in a residual paper check start instruction waiting mode. At step S303, since an inlet sensor 122 of an optional paper output unit 103 does not detect residual paper, the CPU 204 notifies the CPU 201 that it is in a residual paper check start instruction waiting mode. After confirming that all the units are in the waiting mode, the CPU 201 issues a residual paper check start instruction to all the units simultaneously to improve usability by reducing initializing time.

  • Publication number: 20090110411
Abstract: In a printing system having multiple document finishing assemblies, it is sometimes necessary to purge the system of print media which, as a result of a jam or other operational malfunction, remain within the printing system in an unfinished, unprinted, or otherwise undesirable condition. These “purge sheets” can be delivered to a separate purge tray provided at each document finishing assembly. A printing system having numerous document finishing assemblies will typically have a corresponding number of purge trays which must be cleared individually by an operator, which is inefficient and burdensome. The present disclosure provides a printing system and method which, in the event of a jam, consolidates purge sheets into a minimal number of purge trays. By minimizing the number of purge trays which must be cleared by an operator, efficiency gains and productivity increases can be realized.

Abstract: An image recording apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a print engine; a fixing unit; a medium sensor that outputs a detection signal when a recording medium passes said medium sensor; and a controller that determines from the detection signal whether an abnormal transportation of the recording medium has occurred or not, wherein when said controller determines from the detection signal during continuous printing that a following one of two consecutive pages of recording medium remains in said print engine after removing a preceding one of the two consecutive pages that has been abnormally transported, said controller controls said fixing unit to a predetermined temperature and subsequently allows the following one of the two pages to pass through said fixing unit at a first speed so that the following one of the two pages is discharged from the image recording apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7480466
Abstract: An image recording apparatus includes a print engine that transfers a toner image on a recording medium, and a medium sensor disposed at an entrance of the print engine. The medium sensor outputs a detection signal when a recording medium passes by the medium sensor. When a following one of two consecutive pages of the recording medium is jammed at an entrance of the print engine, a controller completes a printing operation of a preceding one of two consecutive pages and indicates the jam of the following one of the two consecutive pages. Alternatively, the controller may control the fixing unit to a predetermined temperature, subsequently allowing the recording medium to pass through the fixing unit at a first speed and to be discharged. Still alternatively, the controller causes the print engine to stop and subsequently discharges the recording medium.

Abstract: A method and system for allowing user control of tray usage policy. In the event that a system purge signal is generated, indicating a purge of existing product in the production pathway, and a system sensor indicates that a tray is not empty, production output will be delayed until a user responds to an alert that existing product in the output tray may be mixed will the purged product, or until a predetermined time period has elapsed at which time the system will automatically perform the purge event, thereby mixing non-production quality product and production quality product in the tray. The user may be presented with options based on the operating mode of the image forming device.
