Abstract: Page numbers on original document volumes that have been read are deleted from the read image information as a part of image processing, and page information sorted with the original document pages of multiple read original document volumes as a single document is superimposed onto the image information from which the page numbers have been deleted, following which the pages are printed out. The pages are thus provided with serial page numbers according to the sorting thereof, and situations wherein both original and new page numbers are present on the pages can be avoided.
Abstract: When a jam process is completed and a copying operation is restarted, a main CPU determines whether the copying operation which is presently set relates to copying of plural copy sets. If it is determined that the copying of plural copy sets is to be performed, the main CPU conforms which original in an order of originals is in the process of copying. If it is confirmed which original is in the process of copying, copies of this original already delivered on sort bins are discharged onto a recycle tray. Then, the set copying operation is restarted from copying of this original.
Abstract: An image forming device inputs data and has a mechanism for ejecting a sheet on which an image is formed to one of a first loading unit or a second loading unit, wherein if the load quantity of the first loading unit reaches a predetermined load quantity while a plurality of sheets are being continuously ejected to the first loading unit, then a sheet can be ejected successfully to the second loading unit. A controller is provided for ejecting the sheet to the second loading unit in a different ejecting way from the sheets ejected to the first loading unit when the sheet to be ejected to the second loading unit is a part of the same job as the sheets ejected to the first loading unit.
Abstract: A copying apparatus having a function for automatically turning off the power at a predetermined timing. The copying apparatus determines at the predetermined timing whether or not the apparatus is in an operation interrupt state in which a sheet remains inside the apparatus, so as to, if the apparatus is in the operation interrupt state, discharge the remaining sheet and then to turn off the power of the apparatus.
Abstract: A method for processing a paper jam error in an image forming apparatus for performing successive image forming operations on successive sheets of paper using an electrophotographic developing process. The method includes determining when a paper jam occurs due to a paper feed failure of a current sheet of paper while the image forming apparatus performs successive image forming operations on successive sheets of paper; and when the paper jam occurs due to the paper feed failure of the current sheet of paper, completing an image forming operation of an immediately preceding sheet of paper, and then processing the paper jam which occurs due to the paper feed failure of the current sheet of paper.
Abstract: The present invention provides a sheet supply apparatus with a supply device for supplying a sheet, a drive motor for driving the supply device, a power transmission switching mechanism for permitting or inhibiting transmission of power from the drive motor to the supply device, and control means for controlling an operation of the power transmission switching mechanism. The power transmission switching mechanism is controlled in such a manner that the transmission of power from the drive motor to the supply device is inhibited when a supplying operation is stopped.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a sheet has a first conveyance path for guiding the sheet, and a second conveyance path arranged in continuation from the first conveyance path to guide the sheet conveyed from the first conveyance path. A conveyor drum, which may be an image transfer drum, retains the sheet on its surface and conveys the sheet such that the sheet moves along said second conveyance path. The drum and the second conveyance path are supported such that they can be moved in a direction which intersects the direction of sheet conveyance, so as to be drawn out of the main part of the apparatus. A sheet jam detector is provided for detecting a sheet jam at a predetermined position which is on the drum and which is spaced from the inlet of the second conveyance path by a distance greater than the length of the sheet which has the greatest length among the sheets which are to be handled by the apparatus, as measured along the second path.
Abstract: A method of removing a paper from a laser printer when a jam occurs includes the steps of starting printing after initialization of a laser printer system, and ascertaining if a jam occurs during the printing performance. The method also includes the steps of proceeding with printing in the absence of a jam, and ascertaining if the cover of the system is opened and then closed when the jam occurs. The printing mechanism motor of the laser printer may be driven at its maximum motor speed, to remove the paper, when the cover is opened and then closed. The time required to clear jams is greatly decreased, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the use of the laser printer.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus is provided with a document feeder for feeding a document to an image scanning portion for scanning an image of the document, a document jam detector for detecting a jam of the document in the document feeder, and a controller for, when the document jam detector detects the jam of the document, stopping an entire image forming operation after completing a specified operation. Since the specified operation is completed upon detection of the document jam, the document to be copied when the image forming operation is resumed after removal of the jammed document can be clearly distinguished from the other. The image forming apparatus can be more rapidly resumed.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit for forming an image on a sheet, a first conveying unit for conveying a sheet along a first conveying path toward the image forming unit, a second conveying unit for conveying a sheet along a second conveying path toward the image forming unit, a first detection unit for detecting the sheet remaining in the first conveying path, a second detection unit for detecting the sheet remaining in the second conveying path, and a control unit for discharging the sheets in the first and second conveying paths from the image forming apparatus by simultaneously driving the first and second conveying units whether or not the sheets in the first and second conveying paths are conveyed superposed in the image forming unit, in accordance with the detection of the remaining sheets by the first and second detection units, before the image forming unit starts image formation.
Abstract: A power saving method of an image forming apparatus, such as a laser beam printer, warms up the image forming apparatus when a given time period has elapsed after entering a power saving mode for reducing energy consumption, thereby reducing the amount of time in waiting for a printing operation. The power saving method of the present invention includes the steps of: determining whether the image forming apparatus is in the power saving mode, performing a timing operation while the image forming apparatus is in the power saving mode and no print data is input, and warming up the image forming apparatus when a duration of the timing operation exceeds a predetermined time period.
