Abstract: The current invention is directed to systems and methods determining an overflow situation for a output catch tray device for holding a predetermined capacity of a image-carrying medium in image-duplicating machines such as photocopiers, facsimile machines and printers. The overflow condition is monitored by keeping track of a number of sheets of an image-carrying medium in a predetermined size and is independent from an inflexible mechanical device such as a torque limiter on a holding roller. In addition, the overflow beyond the predetermined capacity is flexibly adjusted based upon the conversion data.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a sheet based on an original image. The image forming apparatus includes a detecting device for detecting a size of the original, a setting device for setting a finish size of the sheet, a folding device for folding the sheet, and a control device for controlling the folding device based on the original size detected by the detecting device and the finish size set by the setting device.

Abstract: A light source control method for an electronic copier includes the steps of: detecting a size of a document in response to input of a start key while the copier is in a manual tray copy mode; and moving an exposure lamp a given distance along a length of the document corresponding to the size of the document detected in the detecting step. The given distance equals a predetermined percentage of a reference value representative of a maximum scan distance of the exposure lamp.

Abstract: In the present invention, the image data of a plurality of sheets are separately and appropriately enlarged or reduced so as to be formed on a single copy sheet by independently controlling at output the magnification of the respective images in accordance with the size of the copy sheet and the image data separately stored in the memory means. Furthermore, when a first mode for copying a plurality of original documents on a single copy sheet, and a second mode for copying only a cover page on a copy sheet different from the copy sheet of the other original documents, are simultaneously selected, the cover page is copied on a cover page copy sheet and a plurality of the other original documents are copied on a single copy sheet.

Abstract: Toner consumption and contamination in an image forming apparatus can be prevented with a device and method for presetting the paper size to be used in a manual paper feed mode and preventing printing in a region beyond the preset paper size. The device includes a paper width sensing unit that is adjusted by a user in accordance with the width of the paper. A control unit reads a value corresponding to the paper width and generates a control signal indicative of the width of the paper. An image forming unit enables formation of an image only within the range corresponding to the width of the paper.
