Abstract: A pool cover weight comprising an elongated flexible tubular member which is filled with a ballast material and which has a tether secured thereto so that a plurality of the weights may be placed over the side edge portions of a pool cover extending over an above-ground pool with the tethers thereof being secured to the upper ends of the side walls of the pool. The positioning of the pool cover weights on the pool cover prevent the pool cover from flapping in the wind.

Abstract: A lift facilitates ingress and egress of handicapped people, including a platform support above water level providing an essentially flat and horizontal surface on which the person can stand or sit on a wheelchair. This platform is connected to propellant resources to move vertically to submerge and emerge from pool water. The propellant resource attached to the receiving platform includes pneumatic cylinders forming the upper section of the respective vertical tubular center posts extending from the swimming pool floor and rise adjacent the swimming pool wall. The piston of each cylinder is linked to a respective longitudinal piston rod projected downwards along the cylindrical body of each center post, until its free lower end attaches to the structure that supports the receiving platform, projecting transversely outside the columns, through two vertical guide slots extending from an intermediate point of the columns down to the lower extreme immersed in the water.

Abstract: An oxidizer generating apparatus having a housing with a fluid inlet at a first end, the inlet leading to a chamber, and a lid attachable to a second end of the housing for closing the chamber. First and second pairs of electrodes are attached to the lid so as to suspend them within the chamber in position to generate chlorine and/or other oxidants from fluid pumped through the housing.

Abstract: A device for skimming the surface of the water in a swimming pool or the like, in a single, generally sweeping motion and thereby collecting most all of the debris floating on or near the surface of the pool into one spot where it may be lifted and removed from the pool. The system incorporates a long rectangular section of netting that is wound onto a cylindrical reel and contained on a vertically oriented cylindrical axel. The cylindrical axel and reel are mounted by brackets or weights to the side of the pool. The cylindrically wound netting may be drawn out from the fixed cylinder mounted on the side of the pool through a slot in a pivoting debris deflector positioned on the same cylindrical axel. One end of the long rectangular section of netting may be fixed to a second smaller cylinder or pipe which serves to keep the net from being drawn completely into the enclosure comprising the cylindrical reel.

Abstract: A system helps a disabled person more fully utilize a swimming pool by transporting the person over the pool water and lowering the person toward the water for entry thereinto. The device uses a base that has a lift platform that is capable of being raised and lowered as well as rotated. The base is at least partially submerged within the pool and has a stairway abutting it. Three separate platforms extend outwardly from the base and rest on the pool deck. Each platform has a rail system thereon which is traversable by a chair that rides on the rail systems. Transition between out rail and another is accomplished at the lift platform which operates similar to a railway roundhouse turntable.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a pivoting swimming pool tool device including a pivot mechanism, a frame member, and a net to allow a person to remove large quantities of surface debris from a swimming pool.

Abstract: A portable skimmer, motor and pump protector for a swimming pool or a hot tub having a sidewall, an adjoining top deck, a skimmer in the sidewall, in fluid communication with the pool pump and motor. The protector includes a frame having a top portion resting against the top deck, an upright portion resting against the sidewall, wherein the frame surrounds the skimmer. A handle extends from the top frame portion. Removable netting surrounds the frame to permit passage of water but prevent passage of leaves and other debris into the skimmer.

Abstract: A modular occupant bench unit for use in a swimming pool formed from a plurality of contiguous modular wall panels joined end-to-end to define a pool enclosure having a vertical perimeter wall includes a vertical wall having opposite ends adapted to be joined with contiguous wall panels and being substantially coplanar with the vertical walls of the wall panels and an elongate bench protruding from the vertical wall between the top and bottom thereof into the pool substantially beyond the plane formed by the vertical wall of the pool, the upper side of the bench defining an occupant seating area and the underside being spaced from the floor of the pool. A plurality of hydrotherapy jets are spaced apart along the vertical wall above the upper side of said bench and below the water line of the swimming pool.

Abstract: Method for determining the location and/or speed of at least one swimmer, swimming through water, comprising: —sending acoustic signals through the water, using stationary acoustic transmitter means (AT) having a stationary position, or using mobile acoustic transmitter means (AT?) being carried by said swimmer (S); —receiving the acoustic signals using mobile acoustic receiver means (AR) being carried by said swimmer (S), or using stationary acoustic receiver means (AR?) respectively; —determining the time difference between the time of sending and the time of receiving each acoustic signal; —determining a location and/or speed of said swimmer (S) with respect to said stationary transmitter means (AT) or stationary receiver means (AR?), using said time differences and a predetermined propagation speed of the acoustic signal through the water.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a swimmer's starter platform including a heart rate monitor. The heart rate monitor can include electrodes to acquire heart rate data and a transmitter. The starter platform can include a detachable display including a receiver. The detachable display can wirelessly receive the heart rate data and display the heart rate data whether coupled or detached from the starter platform. The starter platform can include a top platform, backstroke handlebars, and electrode handlebars. The electrode handlebars can include electrodes to acquire heart rate data. The electrode handlebars can be positioned with respect to the top platform and the backstroke handlebars to acquire the heart rate data while the swimmer is in the pool.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling a plurality of light fixtures to create light and music, including a processor having a memory. Software is loaded in the memory and is executable by the processor to operate a plurality of light fixtures and at least one music speaker. At least one DMX controller is operable by the software to control the color of at least one of the plurality of light fixtures, the at least one light fixture controllable by the DMX controller including an LED light engine. The system and method generates light and sound displays by operating the lights in synchronization with music played through the music speaker. The color of at least one of the plurality of light fixtures is altered in synchronization with the music by the DMX controller. Also disclosed is a light fixture suitable for use in the light and music displays.

Abstract: A device to allow animals trapped in a swimming pool skimmer to escape via a helical ramp integrally attached to a skimmer cover with an exit hole in the top. The invention provides for the replacement of an existing skimmer cover with the said invention to provide a simple hassle free solution to the drowning of small animals that get caught in the skimmer assembly.

Abstract: An elevator assembly structured to regulate the accessible depth of a swimming pool including a platform selectively and automatically moveable between lowered, intermediate and raised positions thereby regulating the depth of the pool as well as providing a stable barrier and support area adjacent the open top of the pool when in a raised position. A support assembly and drive assembly are operatively associated to move and maintain the platform in any of the aforementioned positions. The platform includes a passage assembly comprising an apertured construction including a plurality of openings disposed and dimensioned to facilitate water flow therethrough as the platform moves within the pool. A sensor assembly is disposed to monitor predetermined vicinity adjacent the pool and functions to automatically dispose the platform in the raised position, thereby preventing drowning of individuals who cannot swim.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for retrofitting a body of water with an area of lower depth. A depth reducing support structure, which includes a platform and a platform support, is provided to allow swimmers to sit or stand above the water surface of a body of water after swimming in an area of higher depth. The depth reducing support structure is submerged in a body of water, such as a swimming pool, but is separate from the structure defining the limits of the body of water and, therefore, is moveable relative thereto.

Abstract: here is provided a moveable swimming pool seat for use with a swimming pool that has a pool wall and a pool deck. The moveable swimming pool seat includes: an upper wall support member; a seat support member connected to the upper wall support member; a seat connected to the seat support member; a lower wall support member connected to the seat support member; at least one strap having a first end and a second end, with the first strap end connected to the upper wall support member; and a pin connected to the second strap end.

Abstract: A play area cover is provided with a flexible sheet member that is urged into a generally convex shape over the play area to shed water and debris away from the cover and the play area. Various structural embodiments are provided for defining the convex shape of the cover. Anchoring mechanisms are provided for releasably securing the cover with a base frame of the play area. Safety mechanisms are incorporated within the supporting and anchoring systems to substantially prevent injury to children and animals around the play area.

Abstract: A skimmer door assembly for use with a skimmer having an opening therein, having a face plate for matingly engaging the skimmer around the opening of the skimmer. The face plate has an opening therein which communicates with the opening of the skimmer. A raised rib portion extends around a periphery of the opening of the face plate. A cover has a first, planar wall which closes the opening of the face plate. The cover has a groove formed on the planar wall which engages the rib of the face plate for sealing the face plate to prevent water from entering the opening of the face plate.

Abstract: A leaf and debris catcher for removing leaves and/or debris from a body of water. The leaf and debris catcher includes a leaf and debris collection member having top, bottom, front, rear, first, and second sides, the bottom side defining an interior side. A female vertical stem extends from a central location on the interior side of the bottom side, the stem defining a bore having opposite open ends. At least one inward opening front flap is located at the front side of the leaf and debris collection member. A plurality of debris and leaf guides converge and extend from the at least one front flap. The first and second sides of the leaf and debris collection member define a plurality of male tongues, and the top and bottom sides define complementary female slots, which are aligned such that the tongues snap-fit into the complementary female slots.

Abstract: A skimmer guard for a pool skimmer is provided. The skimmer is attached to either the inner or outer periphery of the faceplate via cooperating male/female connectors on the skimmer guard and inner or outer periphery of the faceplate at the opening for fluid passage from the pool to the skimmer housing and filter assembly. The skimmer guard includes cut out portions sized such that leaves, bugs and other pool debris can enter the skimmer housing but block larger amphibious objects, such as toys, floating candles, chlorine dispensers, etc., from entering the skimmer housing and obstructing normal skimming operation. The cut out portions may be diamond shaped. The skimmer guard may include a ring tab or other member extending from the outer periphery thereof for ease of removal of the guard.

Abstract: An increased efficiency, more durable pool leafing tool, and method, for gathering leaves and other pool debris from a pool bottom wall has a handle, a handle-controlled basket of a water-pervious and leaf and debris-impervious plastic mesh pocket having a closed end and an open end and a leaf and debris receiving volume therebetween formed by longitudinally extended sidewalls. The sidewalls provide an open end edge margin that is attached to a supporting frame. A pocket stay structure has one or more spring elements bent on themselves about the pocket closed end. The stay structure extends attached to the sidewalls for substantially the sidewall longitudinal extent length for biasing the mesh pocket volume against collapse onto itself in its empty or leaf and debris-filled condition to facilitate both gathering and disposal of leaves and debris from swimming pools.

Abstract: A skimmer-diverter assembly that cooperates with a conventional water circulating and filtration system of a swimming pool, the skimmer-diverter assembly comprising a diverter releasably attached to a mounting bracket that is removably attached to a skimmer inlet opening of the swimming pool filtration system. The diverter including upper and lower diverter housings each diverter housing having an upwardly extending pin. The mounting bracket including upper and lower bracket housings each of the housings having a bore sized to receive the pin of the diverter housings. The diverter further including a handle.

Abstract: A seal for a pool skimmer is provided. The seal is attached to the inner periphery of the faceplate via cooperating male/female connectors on the seal and inner periphery of the faceplate at the opening for fluid passage from the pool to the skimmer housing and filter assembly. In this manner, the surface of the seal is generally flush with the faceplate. Moreover, the fasteners which secure the faceplate and the skimmer housing to the pool sidewall remain accessible for later adjustment by the pool owner or pool service personnel with the seal securely in place. The seal may include a ring tab or other member extending from the outer periphery thereof for ease of removal of the seal.

Abstract: The installation and removal of a portable but sturdy pool barrier fence uses the hardware installed for attaching a safety pool cover during the pool use season. Multiple rectangular panel frames support a mesh fabric. Spaced anchors mounted in said deck adapted to support a cover or said fence when said cover is removed. The fence has rectangular sections formed by upper, lower and side frame members enclosing the fencing material. Each lower frame member in the fence sections has a centrally located rib extending longitudinally along a top surface thereof. Anchor clips, preferably Z-shaped clips, are located and attached to the deck at the anchors in the deck. Each of the anchor clips has a keyway for engaging a respective rib on the lower frame member of the rectangular fence section to secure the fence to the deck.

The upper surface portion is adapted to extend outwardly from an exterior perimeter of an top surface of a spa when positioned thereon. A least one flange portion extends inwardly from said inner edge of the upper surface. The flange member is adapted to be removably attached to the top surface of the spa. At least one support portion extends downwardly from the upper surface portion and has an inner wall and an outer wall. The inner wall is adapted to rest upon and be supported by a side wall of said spa when positioned thereon. The upper surface may function as a tray for holding objects in a location accessible to persons in the spa or may have a cavity formed therein which forms a bucket for holding objects in a location accessible to persons in the spa.

The staircase includes a set of stairs, a bottom-facing surface and a wall-facing surface. Each of the at least one suction devices comprises an attachment portion for attachment to at least one of the bottom-facing surface and the wall-facing surface of the staircase and a suction portion suitable for establishing a suction connection with an interior surface of the swimming pool so as to secure the staircase to the interior surface of the swimming pool.

Abstract: A spa heats or cools air in the air space surrounding the water containment vessel to heat or cool the water in the water containment vessel. The air is heated and cooled and is circulated within the spa cabinet in contact with the underside of the tub and the plumbing for transferring or absorbing heat from the water through the tub and the plumbing. The air is heated by a solid state thermoelectric device or a conventional space heater and is cooled using a solid state thermoelectric device. Preferably a single thermoelectric device is mounted through a wall in the spa cabinet and is used for both heating and cooling the air in the air space.

In one aspect of the invention, the leaf and debris catcher includes a base, a first vertical support member, a horizontal support member, a second vertical support member, and a leaf and debris collection member. Abstract: A valve assembly for use in winterizing a swimming pool closes to prevent pool water from entering into a pool pipe situated below the water line and opens to allow fluid or air to be pumped out of the pool pipes, including an adaptor having threads for attachment to a hose so the pipe contents may be pumped directly into the hose and out of the pool.

Abstract: A poolside connector system and method for use with swimming pool race timing systems and signaling devices. A deck plate or similar poolside signal junction is provided with an optical receiver terminal, and a cable connection from a poolside signaling device such as a touchpad or backup button is provided with an optical transmitter terminal that can be plugged into the deck plate terminal. Electrical signals from the touchpad and backup button representing completed laps are transmitted as optical signals to the deck plate junction. The optical connection at the deck plate is non-conductive and electrically sealed from the poolside environment, and thus has no exposed electrical terminals to corrode. The low voltage DC current on which the optical terminals operate is provided in sealed fashion to the electrically insulated optical terminals, in a preferred form via an inductive power coupling whose halves are sealed in the deck plate and the removable cable connection.

Abstract: An adjustable chair supported by hollow tubing rests in the water of a swimming pool, spa or other walled aquatic body. The support arms rest on the coping or deck around the aquatic body while legs below the chair rest the chair against the wall to hold the chair away from the side of the pool. Vents and drains in the hollow tubing allow water into, and out of, the tubing to make the chair stable in water yet lightweight for portability. Couplers with multiple fastening points allow adjustment of the chair height, distance from the wall, and disassembly of the chair for cleaning and storage.

Abstract: An apparatus that protects swimming pools and spas from birds that typically land on or near the edge of a spa's spillway into a swimming pool and excrete waste on or near the edge of the spillway.

Interior shafts are made of tubular BSF-GP22, ABS sections and the outer rollers are made of ABS-SANTOPREME. The bottom of the “T” shaft is easily attached to any standard pool maintenance pole providing nearly frictionless removal of air pockets from beneath flexible pool covers designed to float flush upon the surface of pool water insuring optimum heating efficiency and avoidance of premature damage to the pool cover that may result from ultraviolet sun rays when pockets of air are allowed to remain between the bottom of the pool cover and the surface of the water.

Abstract: A swimming training apparatus automatically adjusts a user's position at the water surface of a swimming pool according to the user's swimming conditions by a resilient component installed in a position adjusting device. The swimming training apparatus includes an arc support structure, a position adjusting device and a connecting element. When the user swims away from the swimming training apparatus, the pulling force produced by the swimming winds the drive gear to store resilience to the resilient component. The gear set drives two rollers to move the position adjusting device towards a pool side. When the user stops swimming, the resilient component releases the resilience so that the drive gear shortens the connecting element and moves the position adjusting device towards the original position. The invention enables users to swim at different distances within a safe range or flow safely on the water surface of the swimming pool.

Abstract: A lift is provided to facilitate access to swimming pools and spas. The lift includes a base and a mast extending therefrom. An arm pivotally connects to the mast. A seat assembly connects to the arm. An overhead support is positioned above the seat assembly. A first actuator moves the arm about the mast, thereby moving the seat assembly between raised and lowered positions, to bring the seat assembly out of and into a pool. A second actuator rotates the seat assembly relative to the base to position the seat assembly over the pool or deck. In use, the lift attaches to a pool deck, adjacent the pool, and a user accesses the seat assembly from the deck. The second actuator rotates about the base to position the user over the water. The first actuator lowers the seat assembly, and the user exits the seat assembly into the water.

Abstract: A waterfall for a portable spa does not take up any seat space by being set into the top rim of the spa. Water from the spa circulation system flows into a closed end of a channel located in the top rim and along the channel to the open end located at the edge of the top rim on the inside wall to fall into the body of water in the spa. A light source at the point where the water enters the closed end of the channel, which may be adapted to change colors, directs light into the water flow, lighting the water that falls into the spa, in different colors, as desired.

Abstract: A portable apparatus for use in lowering and lifting a user into and out of a swimming pool includes a frame with vertical, longitudinally adjustable legs, horizontal support arms extending rearwardly from the upper ends of the legs, and feet extending forward from the lower ends of the legs. The support arms are adapted to rest on the pool deck and the feet are adapted to rest on the pool bottom, with the apparatus being held on position only by the frictional forces of the arms and the feet. The apparatus further includes a hydraulic cylinder moveable between raised and lowered positions, and a chair moved into the pool when the cylinder is moved toward its lowered position and lifted above the pool when the cylinder is in its raised position. The chair can be rotated at least 180° when in the raised position to permit user ingress and egress.

Abstract: A pool lift has a base, releasably positionable on a pool deck spacedly adjacent a pool edge. The base pivotally mounts an elongate arcuate lift frame about an axis parallel to the pool edge. A hydraulic cylinder extends in pivotal interconnection between the base and the medial portion of the arcuate lift frame to pivotally move a chair user support, carried by the lift frame and oriented in a direction parallel to the adjacent pool edge, from a first upright position spacedly above the pool deck to a second downward position spacedly below the pool deck in the pool cavity. An orienting cable maintains the chair user support in horizontal seating orientation during its course of motion. The hydraulic cylinder preferably is powered by a household pressurized water supply.

Abstract: A skimmer for a pool includes a skimmer guard that is installed by friction only, and without the use of separate fasteners. In one embodiment, the skimmer guard includes a perforated portion surrounded by a peripheral lip, the lip being shaped for engagement with a flange formed on a frame mounted to a skimmer opening. The skimmer guard is inserted onto the flange, and thus prevents debris from entering the skimmer. In another embodiment, the skimmer guard includes a perforated face plate and a plug, the plug being sized for frictional engagement with a skimmer opening. In all cases, the skimmer guard is inserted without the use of separate fasteners, and without the use of tools. The skimmer guard can be removed and replaced with a non-perforated version, at the end of the swimming season.

Abstract: A competitive swimming starting system for producing faster starts of competitive swimmers after the start of the race has been signaled. The competitive swimming starting system may include a platform structure for resting on a surface adjacent to a pool, and a light for illuminating to indicate a starting signal for a swimming race. In one embodiment of the invention, the light is mounted on the platform structure in the view of a person positioned on the starting platform structure. The present invention also contemplates a method of signaling the start of a swimming race, which includes providing a competitive swimming starting platform structure positioned adjacent to a pool, providing a light proximate to the starting platform structure in a location in the view of a person positioned on the starting platform structure, and illuminating the light to signal a start of a swimming race.

Abstract: A lighting system for use with an above-ground swimming pool includes a water access fixture extending through an aperture in the pool wall, for connection with the pool circulation system; and incorporates a sealed light assembly with a translucent cover; secured in depending adjoined, unitary relation with the access fixture. An extended electrical power cord connects with an external power supply and the light assembly, enabling removal of the light assembly from beneath the water, for repair or replacement. A rectifier/transformer 12-volt supply serves the planar array of LED lights, which may be R/G/B and programmed to give a spectrum of coloured lights.

Abstract: A peripheral device for a spa makes use of inductance for power and/or control. In an embodiment, a peripheral device includes a magnetic field source positioned in a region on an externally facing side of a spa shell and configured to generate a first magnetic field. The peripheral device includes a peripheral module, such as a light or other feature. The module includes an inductor configured to generate a second magnetic field based on the first magnetic field, a converter configured to convert the second magnetic field into a current, and a peripheral feature configured to be powered by the current.

Abstract: Apparatus including an inflatable enclosure delimited by a flexible wall to which an accessory is secured. The wall has an opening defined by an edge to which a protruding reinforcement is secured; two rigid frames straddle the edge of the opening on each side of the wall, at least one frame including a groove accommodating the reinforcement; the two frames are clamped against one another, trapping the reinforcement in the groove; the accessory is secured to a frame; and the accessory mounted on the wall is leaktight with respect to the fluid used for inflating the enclosure.

Abstract: A modular step system for in-ground swimming comprising a bottom central hub, a brace assembly, a top central hub, a tread support assembly, a step form and a liner. The components of the modular step system interlock and snap together without fasteners. Also, the components of the modular step system are obtained by molding plastic material or curing of a curable material. The modular step system is installed on a level concrete floor of a swimming pool and designed to be rigidly fixed from behind to adjacent pool walls. The modular step system is adaptable to a pool having a vinyl liner, structurally sound regardless of size, easy to assemble, consistent in size, and cost-effective.

Abstract: A non-slip platform for location adjacent to a body of water providing a person with traction despite the presence of water on the platform, wherein the platform includes an upper portion; a fluid-draining topography at the upper portion that channels the water to minimize water contact with the person on the platform; and a non-slip surface coating on the fluid-draining topography for traction, said non-slip surface coating including an abrasive layer. The present invention is also directed to a method of making the non-slip platform for location adjacent to a body of water, the method including the steps of forming a fluid-draining topography at the upper portion of the non-slip platform, preparing the fluid-draining topography to support an abrasive layer, depositing the abrasive layer on the prepared fluid-draining topography, and providing a topcoat to the fluid-draining topography.

Abstract: A modular rounded corner piece for forming rounded corners of a pool. The modular rounded corner piece may include a plate portion and a liner receptor portion. The liner receptor portion may include a channel formed by a top wall and a bottom wall. The channel may align with a pool liner receptor slot in the coping around the perimeter of the pool. Thus, a continuous liner receptor slot may be formed around the interior circumference of the pool for receiving an edge of a pool liner thereinto. A mounting assembly is provided that is attached to the light fixture for allowing attachment of the assembly to a support frame of a soft-sided aboveground pool. A transformer is provided for containing controls for an automatic timer and for providing variable intensity lighting to the system.

Abstract: A preferred embodiment method for dispensing a product (121) such as cyanuric acid into an existing swimming pool circulation system includes providing a product (121) placed within a permeable bag (120). The permeable bag (120) containing the product (121) is placed into a cavity (104) of a flood feeder (100) having an inlet (105) and an outlet (108). The inlet (105) and the outlet (108) are in fluid communication with the cavity (104) of the feeder (100). A diluent is supplied to the inlet (105) and the diluent is allowed to flood the cavity (104) thereby contacting the permeable bag (120) and dissolving a portion of the product (121) to create a use solution within the cavity (104). The use solution is allowed to exit the cavity (104) through the outlet (108) and to flow into the swimming pool.
