  • Patent number: 8499479
Abstract: A portable advertising system well suited for outdoor advertising at night includes a body adapted to be secured to a transportation vehicle and may include a universal attachment system for that purpose. An advertisement may be displayed on an advertising surface mounted on the body. An illumination source is directed towards the advertising surface and may be integrated into an electronic display unit or may be directed at an advertising sheet such as a vinyl sheet. When the advertising sheet is used, a sheet tension system typically maintains tension on the sheet, and an openable protective cover may protect the sheet when not in use. The illumination source may be controlled based on environmental light conditions, sheet tension and/or position of the protective cover. The body may be part of a cargo container such as an ISO container suited for securing to a railroad car or other vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6029381
Abstract: A display arrangement presents sequential graphical data that corresponds to predetermined environmental features or points of interest, such as sequential holes of a golfcourse. The display arrangement is installed on the golf cart and the information that is sequentially displayed is correlated to the features of a golf course, such as the various physical characteristics of the respective golf holes. A user will actuate the arrangement by manipulation of an actuator switch, whereupon the graphical data, which is printed on a web, is sequenced to display subsequent information, such as the information that relates to a subsequent golf hole to be played. An automated indexing arrangement controls the displacement of the web on which the graphical data is printed. The web is installed on a web carrier having associated therewith an alignment arrangement that maintains the web element in predeterminable spatial relation with respect to a predetermined web path and the display region.

  • Patent number: 5440214
Abstract: A drive control and interface apparatus housed within an advertising display for driving a stepper motor coupled to a display device to sequentially display a plurality of images. The drive control and interface apparatus includes a microprocessor having program memory connected to the motor through a motor driver. A drive control program operates the microprocessor to drive the stepper motor to change the image displayed after a corresponding predetermined period of time. The program includes drive routines for fast and slow image changes that drive the stepper motor to minimize resonance. A control interface connects to the microprocessor. The program is responsive to the control interface to permit manual sequencing of the display and user selection of the corresponding display times for each image.

  • Patent number: 5191748
Abstract: An illuminated display for displaying logos, messages, pricing information and the like, utilizes the large glass surfaces of modern office buildings, banks, hotels and shade material adapted to be backlit from the building interior. The shade material may contain translucent and opaque portions configured to provide, when combined with adjacent shade portions, a representation of the information to be conveyed to an observer of the structure. In the most preferred embodiment the shades are coupled to a timer mechanism so they may be operated simultaneously, e.g. to close them at sunset or to open them at sunrise. Various degrees of transparency may be provided, as may color, to give the designer a large selection of options for carrying out the informational and artistic aspects of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4680883
Abstract: A scroll apparatus formed as a box-like framework with a front view area which houses a pair of rollers upon which a message web is wound in a scroll manner such that an exposed portion of the web extends between the rollers along the view area. A drive strap has each of its opposite ends fixed to a respective roller with its respective end portions each wrapped about itself in a circumferential direction opposite the direction that the message web is wound about the associated roller. The drive strap and web thus form a loop drive assembly for the rollers. Tensioning structure is provided for the drive assembly to keep the web taut and to remove slack due to variations in winding diameters. A color panel is positioned adjacent the message web on a side thereof opposite the view area, and the apparatus is internally lit so that the message web is illuminated by light passing through the color panel. Several apparatus, in modular form, may be used to construct a larger display sign.

  • Patent number: 4326351
Abstract: A display device for a machine such as a poker machine or fruit machine in which information to be displayed is arranged on a closed loop of flexible strip material arranged to pass in front of a viewing window. The closed loop is moved around the predetermined path by electric motors for example. The closed loop can be stopped or started as required and when in motion its position is sensed by an electronic sensor, the output of which is fed to a microprocessor. In a poker or fruit machine a number of such loops of flexible strip material are arranged side by side in a casing which may have the appearance of a conventional fruit machine or poker machine.

  • Patent number: 4293841
Abstract: The pedestrian traffic control system of this invention utilizes an endless belt to successively display visible painted WALK, DONT START, and DONT WALK signs in a window of a display unit. The control unit may be employed with an ordinary three-state power system of the type that now operates flashing neon signs, but has the advantage that electric power operates the signs only when a sign is being moved into display position. Three distinct WALK, DONT START, and DONT WALK signs are used thereby avoiding the ambiguity of present systems in which a flashing DONT WALK sign cautions the pedestrian not to start, but to continue on his way. The movement of the endless belt is controlled by detecting markers, such as perforations, on the endless belt, thus assuring proper registration of the signs in display position. Electrical energy that becomes stored while the sign is energized drives the sign to display the DONT WALK sign, if the power fails.

  • Patent number: 4203094
Abstract: A plurality of sensors are provided each sensing a different condition occurring in a motor vehicle. Each sensor supplies a signal to a converter which converts the signals into a four-digit binary coded signal. A plurality of condition indicating panels, each bearing up to four projections, sequentially move past a stationary switch arrangement to open at least one of four normally closed switches to produce further binary coded signals. A digital comparator compares the four-digit binary signal from the converter with those developed by the switches. The comparator produces an output to drive an electric motor to continue movement of the indication panels when the compared signals do not coincide. When coincidence occurs, the output from the comparator changes to stop the motor thereby displaying the selected indication panel.

  • Patent number: 4067006
Abstract: A changeable alphanumeric sign with printed characters is disclosed. The sign is universally changeable in the sense that any combination of alphanumeric characters may be displayed by selectively positioning a set of display tapes in each character window. Each set of tapes forms a broken-character display in the respective character window and all character windows are independently controlled to form a broken-word display. This arrangement minimizes the length of display tapes required. An open-loop positioning system is provided whereby all sets of tapes are concurrently but independently positioned to change the characters of the sign.
