A plurality of frames with varying sizes and varying styles, are sized to mount about one of the plurality of planar display panes, and are oriented within the display unit. Instructional indicia are provided on the display unit to inform a customer to select at least one planar display pane and at least one frame.

Abstract: An LED Signage system having an LED cabinet and top and bottom plates secured along the top and bottom of the cabinet, and each having a channel aligned towards each other configured to receive a safety screen to protect the LED screen. A base supports the bottom plate and has pairs of rearwardly and forwardly extending arms each with a roller. Rear hinges secure the bottom plate to the base, such that when a force impacts the system the cabinet is configured to move at the rear hinges from an upright position to a collapsed position. Pads are positioned along the top and/or rear of the cabinet and/or secured by front hinges to a front edge of the bottom plate to help protect the system if collapsed from an impact. The system may include a platform with tracks configured to support the base and rollers.

Abstract: A sign for the displaying of a number of characters in either a first orientation or at least one additional orientation. The sign includes a frame and a series of characters, including at least one variable position character, mounted to the frame. The variable position character is movable relative to the frame such that it may be read in different positions, to display a message when the variable position character is either in a first orientation or a second orientation. The variable position character may be interconnected with the frame via a pivoting mechanism for adjusting the orientation of the variable position character. The pivoting mechanism may include a latching mechanism that secures the variable position character in a selected orientation. The characters may each include a source of illumination, such as LEDs, that are interconnected with a power supply for selectively illuminating the LEDs.

Abstract: A readily modifiable modular sign apparatus is especially useful for use as easily changed advertisement media such as in department stores and retail stores. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a preferably translucent substrate or mounting board which is preferably planar and has a front surface and a back surface. Precisely positioned holes are prepared at selected locations. These holes are formed to be aligned with thin metal shims which are affixed on the back surface of the mounting board and receive cylindrical magnets on the front surface. The magnets are attached directly to the rear of printed sheets, each of which may have wording or pictorial information or both. The magnets contact the metal shims through the mounting board holes, and are held firmly in position by virtue of both the magnetic attractive force and the shape of the walls of the mounting board holes.

Abstract: A lighting device configured for projecting a unique lighting to illuminate letters, figures and shapes displayed on the top of the device is disclosed. The letter and figures are interchangeable and maybe customized to individual tastes and interests. The lighting device comprises a chamber containing a light source and a plurality of reflector strips disposed in the inner portion of the chamber. The letters and figures are inserted into a longitudinal aperture at the top of the chamber and snapped onto a lip that protrudes from an aperture wall. An inclined reflector strip comprising of a plurality of flat portions and angled portions directs the light toward the bottom and sides of the letters and figures that permeates through the substantially transparent material the letters and figures comprise to produce the unique lighting effect. Alternatively, angled reflector tabs are used in lieu of the inclined reflector strip.

Abstract: A modifiable modular sign apparatus is especially useful for fast food restaurants as backlighted menu boards. The apparatus comprises a translucent substrate board which is planar and has a front surface and a back surface. Precisely positioned holes are prepared at selected locations. These holes are aligned with thin metal shims which are affixed on the back surface of the mounting board and receive cylindrical magnets. In one embodiment the magnets are attached directly to the rear of printed sheet. In a second embodiment, magnets are positioned in the mounting board holes adhesively secured to the shims. Each printed sheet has a plurality of snap-caps extending through respective holes. The board side end of each snap-cap has a metal member for being magnetically affixed to a magnet in the mounting board hole. The printed sheet may be provided with price carriers to permit personnel to change prices.

Abstract: An illumination apparatus is provided having a panel including a plurality of circuit units on a dielectric surface. The circuit units include electrically conductive traces and at least one light emitting diode (LED). At least some of the circuit units have contacts for supplying power to the LED. The circuit units are preferably electrically interconnected so that power provided to one circuit unit also supplied power to at least a group of the circuit units. The apparatus with the circuit units may be cut or shaped to a predetermined or desired shape. Also provided are methods of manufacturing, assembling, and using the illumination apparatus.

The panel includes grooves on the side of the top which interact with projections on the bottom of the housing which allow the panels to slide into place. A channel on the top of the panel receives the LEDs. The solar panel is preferably angled to receive more light and to shed water.

Abstract: An improved display is disclosed for a dispensing machine having a plurality of switches for dispensing a plurality of products. The improved display comprises a plurality of illuminators located in proximity to the plurality of switches. A decorative panel indicates the types of the plurality of products for dispensing by the dispensing machine. A mounting fixes the decorative panel for enabling the plurality of illuminators to illuminate the decorative panel. A control is connected to the plurality of switches for energizing the plurality of illuminators in response to an actuation of a selected one of the plurality of switches for indicating the dispensing of one of the plurality of products by the dispensing machine.

Abstract: An address indicator has panels each displaying a translucent character surrounded by an opaque area. A frame with a channel slidably captures the panels and has an upper chamber above the channel and a rear chamber behind the channel. Stops at opposite ends of the channel keep the panels in the channel and lights such as LEDs are spaced in the upper chamber for casting light into the rear chamber. A translucent screen in the rear chamber defuses light for illuminating the translucent character of each panel. Solar cells charge replaceable, rechargeable batteries for powering the lights.

Abstract: A menu panel for supporting elongated menu strips of varying heights is disclosed having adjustable guide rails supported by a frame. The frame includes vertical side frame members incorporating guide rail locating elements disposed along the length of the vertical side frame members to position the guide rails. The guide rails are selectively positionable along the length of the vertical side frame members to provide adjustable spacing between adjacent pairs of guide rails. The menu strips include descriptive indicia such as product names and pricing information and are disposed between and supported by adjacent pairs of the guide rails.

Abstract: Home Light is a sign equipped with a backlight and a mechanism for insertion of a set of numbers displaying a home or business address. To use Home Light, a user chooses a location on a house or other structure that is easily viewed from the street and not obscured by any trees, shrubbery or other impediments. He then attaches the sign to the structure in the selected location. The sign is then hard-wired to the structure's electrical system or utilizes another power source to provide power to the backlighting unit and illuminate the numbers.

Abstract: An illuminated sign, internally illuminated by a source such as one or more LED'S generally located at one end, and having a character panel with at least partially transmissive portions to define the characters of the sign. The character panel is curved so as to face the source more squarely at distances further from the source. By this arrangement, the geometric fall-off of illumination with increasing distance from the source is compensated for by the curvature of the character panel, such that more uniform illumination is provided than with prior art flat panels. Power management systems for solar charged illuminated signs are also described, in which the illumination level of the sign is adjusted according to the ambient solar flux and according to the charge-holding capacity of the battery. The system also warns of the impending end of battery life without interrupting the sign functionality.

Abstract: An exterior address porch light, lantern, device, apparatus, and method of making the light, lantern. The light, lantern can be made from plastics, such as PVC and the like, and have a generally cylindrical configuration, that can be mounted alongside exterior doorways, and the like, where existing porch light type lanterns are located. The light, lantern can be solar powered, and/or battery powered, and/or adapted for 120 volt building power supplies. The top of the lantern, light can have a solar cell on a cap cover which overhangs a vertically oriented PVC pipe shaped type housing. Inside the light, lantern can be a light source such as a bulb, and the like. Across the front exterior face can be a rectangular cut-out portion with lettering and/or numbering that can be illuminated from the light source.

Abstract: Single digit Light Emitting Diode (LED) modules for replacing plastic numerals in a gas station pricing sign. Three or four LED modules represent one fuel price. The LED modules are mounted to a transparent face present on existing signs, and may be mounted on an exterior or interior surface of the face. In one embodiment, first LED modules mechanically cooperate with backing plates, thereby sandwiching the face, in another embodiment, second LED modules attach to posts glued to the face. When mounted externally, the LED modules fit into tracks provided for the plastic numerals which are being replaced. An RF, infrared, or hard wired control signal may be used to change prices, and a photocell may be used to control LED intensity in response to ambient light. Additional low power consumption LEDs are provided inside the sign to back illuminate information provided on the face.

A plurality of display members having translucent portions are positioned between spaced apart sets of divider members. An illuminated display device is also provided which includes a housing having an opening, at least one lighting source inside the housing for projecting light through the opening, and a display module. A method of assembling a display module in accordance with the invention is further provided.

Abstract: A menu system comprises a frame that receives interchangeable menu sections with different heights such that sections of various heights are combined to fill the frame space. The menu sections have a central web with upper and lower front channels that receive a presentation strip. Clips, catches, latches, and magnets are used to secure the menu sections in the frame. A preferred menu section uses upper and lower middle web portions attached to web ends. An end cap at the end of a menu section prevents inadvertent loss of presentation strips from the menu section. The end cap can be formed from resilient matter and latched to a web end.

Abstract: An illuminated identification system for providing efficient identification of a building structure in various light conditions. The illuminated identification system includes a housing unit, one or more light bulbs positioned within the housing unit, an identifying plate containing an indicia, a transparent cover plate, and a photocell switch unit electrically connected to the light bulbs. The light bulbs illuminate the interior of the housing unit when the photocell switch unit detects reduced outdoor lighting. The indicia may be formed within the identifying plate by coloring or by cutting out one or more slots forming the indicia.

A pair of spaced apart metallic members extend longitudinally between side panels of the light housing and are positioned adjacent top and bottom panels thereof. The address display further includes a plurality of character plates, each plate having a cutout in the shape of an alphanumeric character or artistic design. Each plate further includes a pair of spaced apart magnetic elements for removably adhering to respective metallic members, whereby an address may be formed and displayed as light from the light source passes through the cutouts of selectively positioned character plates.

Abstract: A modular neon sign control system with a plurality of discrete neon letters, numbers or symbols, each with plugs to plug into at any place along a continuous electrical rail. Each neon letter, etc. is a single tube having its own driving inverter and digital decoder. Dip switches set a unique digital code into the decoder for each letter. A programmed memory controls a system encoder which sends coded signals to each decoder to compare with each letter's unique code. Those letters receiving the matching digital signals are activated or deactivated according to the program. The letters, etc. of the sign can be operated simultaneously, serially, randomly, in a pattern, or in a flashing manner. Power from an ac adapter is supplied along with the signals from the encoder to the electrical rail, and the decoder separates the power from the coded signals. The letters may be individually and easily prearranged and substituted in a sign.

The information includes product names and aligned with each product name is a rectangular transparent window area where the sign is not printed. The rear of the sign is painted with a white diffusing layer which covers the entire rear surface of the sign apart from the windows and the areas bordering the windows which are not coated with the diffusing layer so as to leave a rectangular dark border or frame around each window. Labels having a size larger than that of the window but preferably smaller than that of the outer edge of the border can then be located essentially within the window using the outer edge of the border as a guide. The front of the label is printed with price indicia and if the label is correctly applied to the window, which can be checked by reference to the border, the price indicia should align correctly with the product name indicia.

Abstract: A light assembly is made up of a circuit board and a plurality of individual light units which can be installed on and removed from the circuit board to form a desired design or pattern. Each individual light unit includes an electro-luminescent light panel and a resilient contact arrangement which permits an electrical connection between the contacts in the individual light unit and contact terminals on the circuit board to be established by the act of mounting the individual light unit on the circuit board. The light unit itself may form a sub-assembly of a larger lighting arrangement, and each sub-assembly may include a plurality of individual light units arranged into groups, with each group having a different color.

Abstract: A number plate including luminous characters is usually mounted below head lamps of a vehicle. As essential components, this number plate includes a front plate having a plurality of character portions punched therefrom, a plurality of characters each molded of a transparent or translucent synthetic resin and adhesively fitted into the character portions, a plurality of light emitting diode assemblies arranged on the rear surface side of the front plate at the positions located corresponding to the character portions, a cover secured to the rear surface of the front plate and having the light emitting diode assemblies accommodated therein, and a plurality of base boards having the light emitting diode assemblies arranged at the positions located corresponding to the character portions. In addition, the cover includes a support member for supporting the base boards which are connected to each other in the side-by-side relationship.
