    Abstract: A self-rightening post system is configured to secure a post in a casing in a desired or vertical orientation and to self-righten the post upon the removal of a deflecting force, such as from a car or lawnmower. A self-rightening post system utilizes a plurality of adjustable retainer assemblies that are configured between the post and the inside surface of the casing to produce a self-rightening force upon deflection of the post. The plurality of adjustable retainer assemblies may be configured around the post and/or on opposing sides of the post to ensure that the post will self-righten regardless of the direction of a deflecting force. The casing may be a tube and the self-rightening post system may allow the post to rotate within the casing thereby allowing a user to change a desired rotational orientation.

The lower end of the spring is attached to a tension member, such as a chain, which passes through the stand-off so as to be received in a hole in a suitable external support. The chain is pulled past the external support and when the spring is appropriately tensioned, a locking pin is passed through the chain, preventing its reverse travel through the external support. The upper body portion is allowed to freely rock about the stand-off.

    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for self-righting a signpost after it has been tipped over comprising a plate for connecting to the signpost and a complementary tray secured to the ground. Most of the apparatus is located below ground out of harm's way. The tray has upturned peripheral edges within which the plate resides. A chain is connected to the plate, extends through a hole in the tray and into the bore of a pipe for connecting to the bottom of a compression spring. When the signpost and plate tip, the plate rotates within the tray, displacing the chain and compressing the spring. Preferably a lip extending over the edge of the plate causes the plate to ride up the edge of the tray, increasing the chain's displacement. The increased tension in the chain urges the plate and signpost to right themselves. The plate and tray are complementary and square shape so that the square sides engage during tipping and prevent rotation of the signpost's orientation when it returns to the upright position.

The rod extends upward from the hinge and is colored to indicate distance. A greens mower can approach the flexible marker system from any direction. When the mower encounters the rod, the rod will deflect via the flexible hinge to a position substantially flush with the ground surface. Once the mower has passed the flexible marker system, the rod will return to an upright position.
