Patent number: 5213648Abstract: In a laminated product wherein at least one supported information-containing hydrophilic colloid layer is adhesively bonded on at least one of its surfaces to a protective hydrophobic resin sheet, improved adherence is achieved by using as the bonding adhesive a cationic crosslinked polymer obtained by:a) condensing a polyalkylenepolyamine containing at least two primary amino groups and at least one secondary or tertiary amino group with a dicarboxylic acid to form a polyamidoamine,b) subjecting the resultant polyamidoamine to a graft reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst with an alkene-1,2-imine, andc) crosslinking the resultant graft polymer with an epihalohydrin, an Alpha-Omega dihalohydrin ether or the ether compound obtained by reaction of epichlorohydrin with a water-soluble polyalkyleneoxide to form the water-soluble cationic polymer. With this adhesive bond, a tamper-proof seal can be obtained between the information-containing colloid layer and the hydrophobic resin protective sheet.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1991Date of Patent: May 25, 1993Assignee: Agfa-GEVAERT N.V.Inventors: Leon L. Patent number: 5073221Abstract: Magnetic stripes are applied to magnetically readable credit cards by incorporating the magnetic stripes in a cover sheet and laminating this cover sheet to a core stock sheet and then severing the laminated assembly into individual cards. The magnetic material bearing cover sheet is made by feeding the cover sheet without stripes continuously through a nip along with a plurality of tapes. Each tape is a laminate originally including a release layer, a magnetic layer, an adhesive layer, in that order, on a carrier layer. Heat and pressure applied to the nip releases the magnetic layer from the carrier layer and activates the adhesive layer to bond the magnetic layer of each tape to the original cover sheet, thus forming a stripe on the cover sheet. Distortion of the cover sheet by substantial shrinkage or wrinkling due to the heat effects resulting from the bonding operation are effectively eliminated by the use of a chill roller.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1989Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: Crown Roll Leaf, Inc.Inventors: Robert R. Patent number: 4429015Abstract: Multi-ply laminae are provided which are suitable for use as tell-tale indicators for identification cards, credentials and the like. The laminae are post-laminated to a core layer bearing a photograph or similar information or indicia. Thereafter attempts to delaminate the card result in fibers being torn from a uniaxially oriented polyethylene or polypropylene layer of the laminae. Attempts to readhere the layers with adhesives result in tell-tale indicia in the form of the torn fibers which cannot be adequately realigned or adhered so as to be unnoticeable. Moreover, attempts to heat seal the card after tampering causes the oriented polymer to shrink and opacify resulting in additional tell-tale indicia of tampering. In addition, the core comprises heat seal surfaces upon which printing and other indicia is placed whereby any attempt to alter the printing or other indicia results in destruction of the card.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1982Date of Patent: January 31, 1984Assignee: American Can CompanyInventor: Nicholas Sheptak

Patent number: 4417413Abstract: An identification card incorporating an integrated circuit (IC) chip for processing electric signals incorporates a separate supporting element for the IC chip. The supporting element is mounted in a window of one corner of the identification card to avoid the principal axis of stress. The chip supporting element and the window are of the same general shape. However, the window is larger than the supporting element to provide a clearance area surrounding the supporting element. Resilient cover sheets are adhesively mounted to the identification card to fix the position of the supporting element within the window and maintain the clearance area surrounding the supporting element. The top cover sheet has a recess which is aligned with a portion of the supporting element to allow access to contacts mounted on that portion of the supporting element to provide electrical connections with the IC chip.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1982Date of Patent: November 29, 1983Assignee: GAO Gesellschaft fur Automation und Organisation mbHInventors: Joachim Hoppe, Yahya Haghiri-Tehrani
