    Abstract: A sterilizing container houses an endoscope having openings and an inner region communicating with the openings at a time of an autoclave sterilization. In the sterilizing container, a gap portion of a predetermined volume is formed at a position to which the opening faces when the endoscope is housed in the sterilizing container, and a steam entrance path, which communicates the gap portion with an outside space of the sterilizing container, is formed so as to guide steam fed from the outside space at the sterilization to the inner region of the endoscope via the gap portion and the openings.

    Abstract: An electronic typewriter having calculating, displaying and editing capabilities as well as printing capability. The typewriter includes a main control device having three different modes in which the typewriter is operated. In the first mode, the control device performs an arithmetic operation which is defined in a statement including letters, at least one arithmetic symbol and plural numerical values entered through letter, numeral and arithmetic symbol keys. Further, in the first mode, the control device directs a display device to display the statement and a result of the arithmetic operation, and permits the displayed characters to be edited for correction or change. In the second mode, the control device permits the above items of operation in the first mode and directs a printing device to print the displayed characters. The third mode enables the typewriter to display entered characters and print the characters as they are entered and displayed.

    Abstract: A character overprinting apparatus and method for overprinting in a laser non-impact printer is disclosed. Control bits are generated and assigned to data words transmitted from a host system. An underline control bit identifies whether the associated data word will require underlining and a data control bit identifies the data word as a character space or a character shape. An intermediate storage register stores a line of data words and associated control bits for overprinting. Stored data words and associated control bits from the intermediate storage register and data words and associated control bits from the host system are compared in an overprinting circuitry means to effect a selected merger of the data words and a selected modification of the control bits. The merger and modification are done in accordance with a pre-selected set of overprint rules.

    Abstract: A coded electric signal generating keyboard for a single element typewriter is disclosed which has a keylever signal storing function and includes an interlock mechanism for permitting only one interposer at a time to be moved out of its normal position. Thus after depression of a particular key another key is prevented from being depressed until the interposer moved to an operative position is restored to the normal position during an initial part of a printing cycle initiated in response to depression of the particular key. It further includes an arresting mechanism operable to arrest another subsequently released interposer to an intermediate stored position during the remaining part of the printing cycle whereby another printing cycle may be initiated at the end of such printing cycle.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism for replacing the non-escapement magnet normally utilized to inhibit escapement during certain machine functions on a typewriter. A detent arm is connected to the normal pawl knock-off arm so that upon the print shaft rotating and effecting, by a cam thereon, movement of associated linkage and motion of the knock-off arm to disengage the pawl from the ratchet wheel, the detent arm associated with the knock-off arm detents the ratchet wheel and inhibits escapement thereof until the linkage and knock-off arm returns to its normal position by rotation of the print shaft. Thus, if the escapement magnet coil is not energized, the pawl associated with the magnet will return to its normal position and the ratchet wheel will, because of the detent of the member associated with the knock-off arm, be inhibited from motion.
