  • Patent number: 10556764
Abstract: A sensor unit includes an edge detection sensor, a sensor carriage, a unit housing, and a carriage moving mechanism. The edge detection sensor is arranged in a conveying portion for conveying a sheet and senses edge positions at both sides in a sheet width direction perpendicular to a sheet conveying direction. The sensor carriage has a carriage main body in which the edge detection sensor is incorporated, and is reciprocatably supported on the unit housing in the sheet width direction. The carriage moving mechanism makes the sensor carriage reciprocate in the sheet width direction. The sensor carriage is selectively positioned at a first position where it makes contact with a first side face at one end side of the unit housing in the sheet width direction or a second position where it makes contact with a second side face at the other end side in the sheet width direction.

  • Patent number: 9481170
Abstract: When printing is performed by discharging ink from a printing head onto a lenticular, a carriage motor is controlled such that a carriage is moved in a main scanning direction at a velocity which is slower than a movement velocity of the carriage at the time of performing a normal printing process with respect to a recording medium different from the lenticular as a recording paper and further separated from a home position, and the printing head is controlled such that an ink discharge having a color according to printing data is started with respect to an end portion of the lenticular, and thus the printing of one pass is started. Since the velocity is slower than the movement velocity of the carriage at the time of performing the normal printing process, it is possible to improve printing quality at the time of performing printing with respect to the lenticular.

  • Patent number: 7347636
Abstract: A printing control system and method for an inkjet printer, wherein a carrier equipped with one or more inkjet cartridges is driven while the line feeding is being executed, and the line printing is initiated after the line feeding of the paper is completed. The printing control method may comprise a number of steps to determine whether a line printing by the ink cartridges has been completed, and if so, executing the line feeding. The printing control method may further comprise estimating an expected length of time TE from a time point TC where the carrier initiates a next movement, to a time point TI where the next line printing is initiated, and comparing a length of feeding time TRX remaining until the line feeding is completed with the expected length of time TE, and driving the carrier if the length of remaining feeding time TRX becomes less than or equal to the expected length of time TE.

  • Patent number: 7261480
Abstract: A system and method for providing a self-diagnostic process for determining a print shaft contamination condition such as debris build up on the guide shaft in a shuttle head printer is described. The process can be carried out at several points in time including automatically when the printer is powered-up, at a periodic schedule, and/or at the initiation of a user. The process includes a measurement of the print head speed over a travel distance along the guide shaft. If the speed is lower than a predetermined threshold value, the user is notified that a print shaft contamination condition exists.

Abstract: There is provided a control unit capable of rapid and precise stoppage of an object to be driven by a motor for use in a printer. The control unit has a speed control part to control the object by acceleration control, constant speed control, deceleration control, and stoppage control by controlling a current to be applied to the motor, and also an inertia calculating part to calculate inertia of the object based on angular acceleration of the motor under the acceleration control of the object, and current values to be applied to the motor under the acceleration control and the constant speed control of the object. The speed control part uses the calculated inertia for controlling the current to be applied to the motor.

  • Patent number: 7131779
Abstract: An actuating control device for use between a printer head and an actuating and transmitting device includes a path planning unit, a feedback unit, a proportional-integral controller and a feed forward controller. The path planning unit issues a position command value and a speed command value. The feedback unit generates a position feedback signal and a speed feedback signal according to the position and the speed of the printer head. The proportional-integral controller generates a first control signal according to the difference between the position command value and the position feedback signal and the difference between the speed command value and the speed feedback signal. The feed forward controller generates a second control signal according to a computation on the speed command value. The printer head is driven to move by the actuating and transmitting device in response to the first control signal and the second control signal.

  • Patent number: 7121749
Abstract: A carriage drive control device is provided which moves a carriage at a constant speed in a recording area for recording operation and which moves the carriage to a target stop position in a better way for non-recording operation. A controlled variable of actuator is calculated based on a speed error between a target speed and a moving speed of the carriage. The target speed is set based on a position error between the target stop position and a current position of the carriage, and is not more than a predetermined first speed. When the actuator starts moving the carriage for recording operation, a control rule used for calculation of the controlled is set to a first control rule, and when the actuator starts moving the carriage for non-recording operation, the control rule is set to a second control rule.

  • Patent number: 7056041
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting a damaged encoder strip are described. An encoder strip is scanned in two separate operations at two separate times, a first operation and a second operation. The number of markings sensed in each separate operation is counted. A circuit compares the count of markings in each separate operation. If the count differs between the two operations, the circuit determines that the encoder strip is damaged, and the circuit develops a signal indicating this damage. In an embodiment, the first operation is performed during a calibration, and the second operation is performed during a power-on, or upon operator command.

  • Patent number: 6939064
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to use a simple configuration to reduce the deviate of an image printed position caused by the behavior of a print sheet when the back end of the sheet slips out from an upstream roller pair. Thus, the present invention provides a printing apparatus including transporting section for transporting a print medium relative to printing heads for printing an image on a print sheet, the apparatus comprising vibrating section for vibrating the transporting section. This vibrating section vibrates the transporting section before the printing heads start a printing operation. Thus, even if the transporting section is stopped at an unstable position when a transporting operation is stopped, the applied vibration brings the transporting section into a stable state sufficiently before a printing operation is started.
