Patent number: 7775732Abstract: Apparatus supplies a printer used in a POS location or other printer station with paper from two different rolls. A detection device recognizes when the feeding roll is about to run out of paper, whereupon the paper feeding task is automatically switched to the other roll. An operator only needs to service a printer station before both rolls of paper run out in order to prevent a downtime. One embodiment is directed to apparatus for supplying paper to a printer disposed to receive paper from either a first or a second paper roll. The apparatus comprises first and second roller sets corresponding to first and second paper rolls, respectively, each roller set being operable when receiving power to supply paper from its corresponding paper roll to the printer. The apparatus further comprises a single power source, and a power delivery mechanism for adapting the first and second roller sets to receive power from the source during first and second operating modes, respectively, of the mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2006Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Jay Hyuk Kim

Patent number: 7306387Abstract: A tape printer includes a holder support member at one side end in a roll sheet holder storage part in a direction substantially perpendicular to a feeding direction. In the holder support member, a mounting piece which is substantially rectangular in section and formed protruding outward on a positioning holding member of a roll sheet holder is fitted. The tape printer further includes a flat portion formed substantially horizontally between a rear edge of an insertion opening through which a roll sheet is inserted into the tape printer. On the flat portion, a front portion of a guide member is placed. At a rear edge of the flat portion in the feeding direction, at plural positions corresponding to various kinds of the roll sheets having different widths, there are formed four second positioning grooves in which part of the guide member is fitted.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2006Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kiyoshi Sugimoro, Keiji Seo, Akira Sago, Atsushi Kasugai

Patent number: 7278797Abstract: A label to be attached to a linear or bar-shaped object is created by printing on a translucent printing tape and cutting off a printed tape part in a width direction of the printing tape. For creating the label, the printed tape part is divided parallel to its longitudinal direction and a print region where printing is performed is set. Printing is performed in the print region and the printed tape part is cut off. This region setting is performed in such a manner that the print region is overlaid with a non-print region, i.e., a non-print part in attaching the label around the object from an edge portion of the printed tape part in its width direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2005Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignees: Seiko Epson Corporation, King Jim Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masao Akaiwa, Nobuyuki Horii

Patent number: 6773180Abstract: When images in the order of photographing are printed on papers being conveyed in parallel, the images are allotted to each paper such that the order of an image to be printed in a predetermined order from the leading end of the paper closer to a tray is one smaller than that of the other paper, and the order of images to be printed on each paper gradually increase by twos toward the tail end of each paper. The papers cut with a cutting unit after each image is printed are conveyed with a conveyor belt and piled on the tray in the order of photographing.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2003Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Noritsu Koki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masaaki Tsuji, Togo Kinoshita

Patent number: 6341839Abstract: The present invention pertains to the field of ink-jet printers used for color printing of large format articles. This invention is used for improving quality and for increasing the yield of printers and comprises successively applying primary colors, suppressing color aberrations when printing a semi-transparent material on both sides, precisely positioning the head when printing an image on the substrate and eliminating the lines connecting the carriage to the systems supplying control signals, air and inks. To this end, the carriage with the jet heads is moved in one direction along a closed guiding rail which is fitted with a hatched ruler for precise positioning, wherein the heads will thus bypass the substrate on both sides while information is transmitted from the device control unit to the carriage using a radio transceiver. The printer can further be (equipped With two independent and parallel substrate feeding systems for performing a one-sided printing on two substrates at the same time.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2000Date of Patent: January 29, 2002Inventors: Vladislav Sergeevich Burikov, Alexandr Viktorovich Bokarev, Igor Vyacheslavovich Burikov, Vladimir Vasilievich Kozlov

Patent number: 6126343Abstract: A printing medium feeding apparatus comprises a conveying belt, on which a roll-shaped printing medium is placed with the lower surface of the roll being in contact therewith to unwind the outer periphery of the roll. With the arrangement, setup of the roll to the feeding apparatus is completed easily by only placing the roll onto the conveying belt, as compared with a construction in which the center of a roll is rotatably supported. It is also possible to omit or simplify a transmission mechanism such as a train of reduction gears that is necessary for the case of central driving. Further, it is also possible to feed a constant amount of length at a constant drive speed irrespective of radius of the roll.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1997Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Canon Aptex, Inc.Inventors: Katsumi Sugiyama, Yoshihiko Kitahara, Masataka Naito, Masatoshi Ikkatai, Tsutomu Harada, Tatsuya Fukushima, Hitoshi Fujimoto, Tsuyoshi Mikoshiba, Takefumi Tamura
