  • Patent number: 10933666
Abstract: Edge hold down (EHD) systems are described herein that enable high print quality to be achieved more consistently, particularly when using substrates that are rigid or include one or more defects. Each EHD system includes a tensioned band for holding down an edge of a substrate as it passes through a printer assembly without impacting the print area. The tensioned band can be affixed between an entry tension assembly and an exit tension assembly disposed downstream of the entry tension assembly in the media feed direction. The tensioned band holds the substrate substantially flat against a transfer belt during printing by applying pressure to the surface of the substrate. The tensioned band generally contacts the surface of the substrate substantially proximate to an outer edge that is parallel to the media feed direction.

Abstract: A recording apparatus records an image by relatively moving a recording head with respect to a recording sheet. When a recording sheet is conveyed by rotating a LF roller in accordance with recording operation at the recording position during the recording of a current recording sheet, it is determined whether or not recording for a next recording sheet is necessary. In the case of that recording for the next recording medium is necessary, the next recording sheet is fed by rotating the feed roller for the amount corresponding to the conveyance distance by rotation of the LF roller, in synchronization with the conveyance of the current recording sheet by rotation of the LF roller.

The path passes through a plurality of treatment stations and is split at least one of the stations into a plurality of generally parallel lanes each having a respective treatment device or printer. At the one treatment station the objects are split up and fed to the lanes from the path, the images are printed on the objects in the lanes with the respective printers, and all the objects are returned to the path after printing. The objects move single-file downstream along the path upstream and downstream of the one station. Instead of printers, each lane can have some other type of treatment machine and the operations performed by these treatment machines in the lanes can be the same or different.

A detection device recognizes when the feeding roll is about to run out of paper, whereupon the paper feeding task is automatically switched to the other roll.
