The base elastomer provides a vulcanizate with basic physical and environmental resistant properties including at a minimum elasticity, flexibility, and relative impermeability to water and air while the reclaimed rubber advantageously extends the base elastomer to reduce cost and help reduce quantities of existing environmentally harmful waste. By not incorporating wood in the sheath, the present invention does not contribute to deforestation or consumption of a natural resource, but to the contrary, describes an efficient use for used tires. In addition, the pencils of the present invention are easier to manufacture than wooden pencils and generate less health hazards.

The rotation cam mechanism has a rotation cam for rotating in accordance with rotation of a cap and a cam sleeve biased to engaged the rotation cam. An inside diameter of the front end of the cam sleeve is larger than an outside diameter of the rear end of the lead advancing mechanism so that the rear end of the lead advancing mechanism is inserted into the front end of the cam sleeve with a clearance in the radial direction. An inside diameter of the rear end of the lead advancing mechanism is larger than the outside diameter of a lead to establish a clearance there also.

    Abstract: A knock type sharp pencil provided in its outer cylinder with a core holding mechanism composed of an inner cylinder coaxially arranged in the outer cylinder, a lead chuck inserted in the inner cylinder and including a chuck portion projecting out of the front end of the inner cylinder, a chuck ring inserted between a flange portion of the inner cylinder and the chuck portion of the lead chuck, a core case provided at its rear end with a knock portion and connected to the rear end of the lead chuck, and a spring means arranged in the inner cylinder and inserted between the flange portion of the inner cylinder and the front end portion of the core case, the spring means urging the core case backwardly.

    Abstract: A mechanical pencil wherein a lead is propelled through a lead insertion tube provided at the forward end of the pencil body by the propulsion of a lead sustaining and feeding mechanism consisting of a chuck and the like, the mechanical pencil also having a lead protective device wherein a thin film made of an elastic material, such as rubber, synthetic resin or the like, is provided over the whole length of the inner surface of the lead insertion tube so that the lead is permitted to pass therethrough with ease, the elastic thin film being adapted to have a relatively greater thickness at the forward end part of the lead insertion tube so as to form a lead sustaining portion, the elasticity of the lead sustaining portion precluding the lead from slipping out due to own weight when released from the lead sustaining and feeding mechanism thereby minimizing the loss of lead.

    Abstract: An automatic pencil employing axial movement of a lead piece guide and a lead piece chucking mechanism. After a length of protruding lead rod is used up, the lead piece guide is caused to retract in the same amount as the wearing away of the lead rod. By pressing the tip of the lead rod against another object, the lead rod is caused to move back with the chucking mechanism. After the rod is retracted until the tip aligns with the tip of the guide, the rod and lead piece guide will be moved back. The rod will then advance when the holder is moved away from the object while the lead piece guide will be left in the retracted position due to a large friction between the friction member and the guide means. By this operation, the rod is protruded from the guide at substantially equal length to the stroke of the retracting movement.

A lead rod stepping means of a push button type is provided and the lead rod holding means is mounted within the outer member in such a way that the lead rod holding means is movable relative to the outer member, while still holding the lead rod, when the lead rod is pushed backward relative to the outer member. Accordingly, the breaking of the lead rod while writing is eliminated, and a soft writing feel is achieved.
