  • Patent number: 6722810
Abstract: An outer shaft is spline-fitted to an inner shaft and, after thus assembling the shafts, an adjustment screw is moved inwards in the radial direction while being fastened. An interval in the radial direction between a screw member and a receiving member of a diameter-expanding member is thereby expanded, thereby thrusting the inner shaft outward in the radial direction against the outer shaft. A thrusting force acting in the radial direction on the inner shaft against the outer shaft can be adjusted by controlling a fastening force of the adjustment screw. It is therefore possible to easily adjust a slide resistance between the two shafts and surely prevent a “backlash” between the two shafts.

A lock for fixing telescoping sections of the pole provides fixed positioning without high initial clamping forces. An air cushion system inhibits damaging the pole sections when they are retracted, but the pole sections can be simply pulled apart without any other required disassembly for cleaning or repair. Fittings for use in screw-together pole sections are constructed to permit location within mating pole sections prior to application of adhesive for greater precision and maintenance of coincident axes of the pole sections when screwed together. Also, the end faces of the fittings are particularly formed to facilitate complete face-to-face contact and avoid misalignment when the fittings are attached. Abstract: A collapsible cane for aiding a user to walk. The collapsible cane includes an elongate member. The elongate member has a plurality of tubular members. The tubular members include a plurality of intermediate tubular members extending between a first tubular member and a second tubular member. The elongate member is telescoping. A handle means for carrying the elongate member includes a housing, which is coupled to the first tubular member. An extension system selectively secures the elongate member in an extended position. The extension system comprises a plurality of locking pins. The locking pins are adapted to selectively lock a tubular member in a fixed position with relation to an adjacent tubular member. A draw line is coupled to the locking pins and is adapted to selectively remove the locking pins and unlock a tubular member from the fixed position.

Abstract: The invention relates to a connecting piece which can be pivotally connected both to the jib of an excavator and to a setting cylinder connected to a jib, and which is intended for linking up a tool, such as an excavator bucket, for example, to the end of the jib. A connecting wedge is connected to the connecting piece, in which two pins extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the wedge and being guided in the connecting piece are mounted. An adjusting element is connected to the connecting piece, by means of which the connecting wedge can be moved in a direction transversely to its longitudinal direction. The connecting piece comprises a screw spindle, which is journalled in the connecting wedge and which is screw into a nut-shaped member connected to the connecting piece.

Abstract: Temporary and long term guard rail systems for use by residential and commercial builders on construction sites to prevent accidental falls that can result in serious bodily injuries. The systems meet the standards of fall protection as specified by OSHA including those on safety issues concerning protrusions that can cause lacerations and present clothing snag hazards. The system includes a plurality of vertical posts/stanchions having side rail mounting points that do not present laceration and clothing snag hazards. The posts/stanchions include rotatable collars with internally threaded holes that create mounting points for the side rails that are capable of rotating along the Y and Z axes of the posts/stanchions allowing the interconnection of horizontal guardrails. The side guardrails can include telescoping tubular adjustable lengths or have a fixed length.

Abstract: A mirror assembly has a pair of telescoping tubular supports extending between a support base and a mirror head to provide adjustment of the mirror head toward and away from the support base. Friction shoes within the tubular supports releasably hold such supports against unintentional telescoping movement. Cooperating stops on the telescoping supports limit outward movement of the mirror head and prevent complete separation of the telescoping supports. The tubular supports are hingedly attached to the support base for rotation about a vertical axis, and cooperating detents and spring elements on the supports and support base releasably hold the supports against rotation.

Abstract: A locking mechanism for a telescopically adjustable extension pole is disclosed. The locking mechanism includes a collar member and a locking trigger mechanism preferably comprising a bottom trigger member and a top trigger member having a locking pin therein. The top trigger member grippingly engages the collar member which is attached to the outer sleeve of the pole. By depressing the bottom trigger member, the top trigger member moves laterally outwardly retracting the locking pin from an aperture in the inner sleeve permitting the length of the extension pole to be telescopically adjusted. By releasing the bottom trigger member, the top trigger member moves laterally inwardly causing the locking pin to be received within an aperture in the inner sleeve so as to interlock the inner sleeve within the outer sleeve at the approximate desired length of the extension pole.
