  • Patent number: 6068310
Abstract: In a side-pull hoist ring having a load carrying ring, a clevis pivotally supporting the load carrying ring for rotation about a first axis and a post assembly extending through the clevis and fixedly engageable with a threaded bore on a load for allowing 360.degree. rotation of the clevis about a second axis generally perpendicular to the load. The post assembly includes a lower support bushing with a large diameter lower load bearing flange and a bolt receiving passageway coaxial with the second axis; a bolt extending through the passageway into the threaded bore of the load where the bolt has a head carrying an upper flange member coacting with the lower flange to capture the clevis and a shank. There is a first cylinder groove in the passageway and a second cylindrical groove around the shank. The grooves are axially aligned when the lower flange and the upper flange capture the clevis.

  • Patent number: 5979954
Abstract: An improved safety hoist ring assembly. Fewer and simpler parts are used in the assembly, as compared with the prior art safety hoist rings. It can be easily assembled and disassembled without the use of tools. The assembly includes a lift stud member, a bushing member, a retainer element, a U-bar member and a clevis pin element. The cylindrical bearing surface of the lift stud member is axially received in and retained within the central bore of the bushing member by the retainer element. The external diameter of the retainer element is less than the external diameter of the bushing member. The retainer element is thus sized to pass through any bore in an object to which the bushing member is to be attached. The external surface of the bushing member is provided with some mounting mechanism, such as a thread, which mounts the bushing to an object which is to be lifted.

  • Patent number: 5848815
Abstract: For lifting loads there is provided an eyebolt with an annular ring swivelly mounted on a stud so as to freely rotate in a horizontal plane through a full 360 degrees. A lifting loop has oppositely disposed pivot pins in swivel engagement with the annular ring to allow the loop to pivot in a vertical arc as well as to rotate about the stud. The stud in turn is adapted to be anchored in fixed position to the load, whatever the load may be. Circumferential grooves are cut in the solid pivot pins adjacent the ends thereof. The pivot pins are received in a diametric bore in the retention ring. Bores in the body of the retention ring are positioned to align with the circumferential grooves. Solid dowel elements inserted in these bores engage with the circumferential grooves and retain the pivot pins assembled with the retention ring.

  • Patent number: 5839846
Abstract: A joint structure for a control cable includes an annular cable-end member provided on an end of the control cable, a columnar sleeve arranged in the annular cable-end member and a pair of bushes of the same configuration. Each bush includes an annular part, a cylindrical part, a pair of claw parts and a pair of cradle parts. In this arrangement, the cylindrical part, which is made of elastic material, is inserted between the sleeve and the cable-end member, while a pair of claw parts are engaged with the cradle parts of the opposing bush. The sleeve is provided on the side face with a circumferential bead, interposed between leading ends of the opposing bushes. Even if any force is exerted between the cable-end member and the sleeve, no deformation is caused in the cylindrical parts because of its inelasticity, while the bead prevents relative displacement.

  • Patent number: 5823588
Abstract: A universal hoist assembly for lifting large, heavy, structures. The assembly basically includes a housing which captures the base of a lift swivel while permitting free rotation of the base. An upright extension of the base extends out of the housing and has a transverse aperture through which a shackle is fastened. This arrangement permits the shackle to pivot and the extension to freely rotate, so that a lift can be conducted with structures of widely varying configurations without danger from sideloads on the lift assembly. Preferably, the base is either disk-shaped and housed in a corresponding recess for rotation in a plane or has a spherical exterior shape in a corresponding recess to permit rotation plus pivoting in any direction. The assembly may be fastened to a structure by a single central threaded bolt fastened to the housing and threaded into the structure or extending through a structure wall to a nut or by several spaced bolts.

The pin passes through the eye of the first piece, which then retractably protrudes the button out from the first eye of the second piece and extends the second end to a position near the second eye of the second piece. A stopper has a protrusion which is passed through the second eye of the second piece, extending into the eye of the first piece, and joined with the second end of the pin. A slide block is passed through by the pin and inserted within the eye of the first piece, retractably protruding into the first eye of the second piece.

  • Patent number: 4880193
Abstract: A swing arm lamp has the swing arms thereof connected to each other through a swivel assembly that includes a first swivel element and a second swivel element all disposed and interconnected so as to rotate with respect to each other about an axis of rotation through the swivel assembly, but so that relative sliding movement along the axis of rotation of the elements with respect to each other is substantially prevented and so that the relative rotation is limited to just about 360 degrees. The swivel elements are formed of tubular stock with one element having a reduced outer diameter at one end thereof, having a circumferential groove formed about such reduced outer diameter, and having a stop extending therefrom. The reduced outer diameter end portion of the one swivel element, in turn, seats in an enlarged inner diameter end portion of the other swivel elements. First and second lugs are formed from the material of such other swivel element by displacing the wall thereof in a swaging process.

Abstract: A lamp arm assembly includes at least one swivel assembly (A,D) and tubular arms (90, 150) for supporting a lighting fixture (E). The swivel assemblies include at least a first swivel member (10, 100) and a second swivel member (30, 120). Each swivel member has a peripheral outer surface (12, 102, 32, 122) and an interior passage (14, 34, 104, 124). One of the swivel members includes an annular collar (16, 106) projecting into the inner passage and the other includes a ferrule (36, 126) which is received in the annular collar and crimped thereto. The swivel members have bearing surfaces (18, 38, 108, 128) around the ferrule which are urged into firm frictional engagement by the crimping. One of the bearing surfaces is supported on a cylindrical supporting portion (44, 130) and the other has a skirt (40, 108) with a cylindrical inner surface. The cylindrical surfaces of the skirt and the bearing surface supporting portion are sufficiently different to form an annular gap.

  • Patent number: 4697890
Abstract: A device, such as a flashlight, spotlight, or reading light, for emitting an incident beam of light wherein the intensity and color of an incident beam of light emitted from the device can be manually modulated or adjusted. The device utilizes a variable density filter system which is manually adjustable and which incorporates a pair of optical linear polarizing filters or lenses which are mounted so that the emitted beam of light must pass through the polarizing filters. The filter system is adapted to produce at one extreme a high transmittance value when the axes of the polarizing filters are parallel. At the opposite extreme a very high extinction density is achieved when the axes of the polarizing filters are oriented so as to be essentially normal or perpendicular with each other. Varying optical densities are produced at settings between these two extremes.
