Patent number: 4197759Abstract: A gear comprises a hub and a gear ring mounted thereon, each formed with peripherally spaced apertures and interlocking elements extending peripherally between adjacent apertures to hold the hub and gear ring against axial movement relative to each other. The apertures of the hub and gear ring register. Torque is transmitted between the hub and gear ring by a plurality of first abutments on the hub which have radially outwardly facing surfaces adjoining respective apertures therein, a plurality of second abutments on the gear ring which have radially inwardly facing surfaces adjoining respective apertures therein and radially aligned with respective outwardly facing surfaces, and a plurality of prestressed elastomeric spring elements disposed in the registering apertures. Each spring element engages the radially aligned surfaces and is retained in the apertures by a retaining disc secured to the hub and engaging the spring element on one side of the gear.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1978Date of Patent: April 15, 1980Assignee: Steyr-Daimler-Puch AktiengesellschaftInventors: Jorg Krebs, Peter Resele

Patent number: 4136787Abstract: An elastic hinge of a central buffer coupling for rail cars, comprises a bearing housing which has at least one end with a coupling rod receiving opening into which a coupling rod extends. The interior wall of the housing has a plurality of axially spaced radially inwardly extending annular housing cam surfaces which engage between similar cam surfaces defined on a coupling rod which is inserted into the housing. A plurality of rings are arranged on the coupling rod between the coupling rod cam surfaces and they have outer peripheries which bear on the housing between adjacent housing cam surfaces. The housing interior wall and the coupling rod have an oval cross-section and the rings are held in spaced axial relationship by the coupling rod cams. The housing and the rings may be made of two semiannular parts, and the housing parts may be bolted together.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1978Date of Patent: January 30, 1979Assignee: Scharfenbergkupplung GmbHInventors: Hilmar Forster, Wilhelm Gunther

Patent number: 4129394Abstract: A pivot pin construction for pivot joints, particularly universal joints wherein an inner and an outer member are provided in the construction. A spacing is provided between the inner and outer members and a resilient mass is secured in the spacing. The spacing between the inner and outer members is enlarged at the axial ends thereof so that when the pivot pin is displaced, the volume of the displaced resilient mass in one plane plus the volume of the displaced resilient mass in an adjacent plane is absorbed by the volume between the two surfaces in the respective plane.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1977Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen- und ZahnradfabrikInventors: Johann Eichinger, Manfred Hirt

Patent number: 4098527Abstract: A flexible tension bearing connector includes a cylinder having a base portion supporting a central rigid spacer therein having an outer spherical surface facing away from the base portion and a center of curvature at the axis of the cylinder. A nipple has an internal spherically shaped surface contiguous to the spacer in a mating relation. An elastomeric bearing has an end inner ring which has a cylindrical center bore to receive the nipple and an end outer ring captured inside the cylinder. An intermediate elastomeric section has spherical geometry centered at the center of curvature of the spacer. The bearing encircles the nipple with annular planar bearing surface facing away from the spaces in a plane normal to the cylinder axis. A stop on the nipple contacts the annular planar bearing surface to transfer through the bearing to the cylinder any forces which would urge the bearing away from the spacer.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1977Date of Patent: July 4, 1978Assignee: Murdock Machine & Engineering CompanyInventors: John T. Patent number: 4092078Abstract: An elastic connection of an axial joint with the connecting linkage of a motor vehicle steering gear, comprises a housing which has an opening at each end with one end opening into a spherical cavity for supporting the ball head of an axial joint and the opposite end opening into a cylindrical cavity. The cylindrical cavity contains an inner metal sleeve which is adapted to be connected to a connecting linkage which is held in position by an elastic bearing bushing which is firmly adhered thereto, such as by vulcanizing. The outer periphery of the elastic bushing is secured to a steering part secured in the cylindrical recess of the housing. The inner sleeve includes an annular collar adjacent the opening at the cylindrical recess end of the housing at a location adjacent the end which is formed with a downturned flange of both the housing and the outer bearing sleeve part.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1977Date of Patent: May 30, 1978Assignee: Lemforder Metallwaren AGInventors: Werner Klotz, Georg Kindel

Patent number: 4086713Abstract: A retainer for retaining a shank in a recess. The retainer is in the form of a resilient collar having an inner surface co-acting with the shank and a peripheral surface co-acting with the walls of the recess. The peripheral surface is eccentrically displaced with respect to the inner surface. The inner surface of the retainer and the co-acting surface of the shank have complementary regular polygonal shapes.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1977Date of Patent: May 2, 1978Assignee: Western Rock Bit Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kenneth M. Patent number: 4050265Abstract: A force-displacement controller knob for use in isometric control devices provided. A controller knob component is mounted on existing control shafts and the knob itself contains a pair of compressible, resilient washers separated by and contacting a rigid washer in a chamber in the knob so that force appied in any direction on the knob will be transferred to the control shaft in a resistance ratio determined by the compressibility of the resilient washers.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1976Date of Patent: September 27, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Thomas G.
