  • Patent number: 5137389
Abstract: A clip is disclosed for mounting a flush plate such as a mounting tray or the like within a corresponding opening in an extruded frame member such as a transom bar, door frame, or the like. The clip includes a pair of tongue members held together in spaced apart relation by an interconnecting bridge member. The tongue members are inserted into corresponding channels defined in the extruded frame member adjacent the opening, and when the clip is thus mounted to the frame member, a portion of the clip extends into the opening. In the disclosed embodiment, the bridge member is located to abut the end of the extruded frame member to limit the depth to which the clip is inserted into the channels. With the clips thus mounted, the flush plate is fastened to the clips to secure the flush plate to the extruded frame member. The clip is less expensive to produce than two corresponding single tongued clips and requires only one installation step rather than two.

  • Patent number: 5131778
Abstract: A coupling structure and a method of coupling resin structures wherein a first member is coupled with a thermoplastic second member through a coupling force produced by constricting the volume of the resin during molding and/or the generation of an undercut structure. The undercut structure results from the deformation of a projection member caused by the flow pressure and temperature of the resin. A recess is provided in one of the members. The recess is indented in the laying direction. On the other member, a projection is provided which enters the recess. The coupling of the two members is therefore simple and does not require the use of a subsidiary material. Additionally, when an undercut structure is formed, extremely strong coupling is obtained. Since the undercut is formed by deformation of the projection, no undercut structure is required to be formed on the die, so that no extra cost or burden has to be forced on the die.

The spline includes opposite side edges, one of which is forced into the recess beneath the longest lip so as to force the screen into the recess between the spline and the end wall of the channel. The opposite edge of the spline is then pressed downwardly until it snaps into the channel and holds the screen in place.

  • Patent number: 5035530
Abstract: Disclosed is an actuator comprising a plate-shaped output member including a shape memory alloy, which is disposed between two bodies capable of relative movement. The output member comprises a shape memory alloy having such shape memory characteristics that a wave plate shape having at least one wave which extends in the direction orthogonal to the line connecting the attachment ends of the output member to be attached to the two bodies is formed in a specific temperature region. By utilizing the force of the output member for restorign the memorized shape in this specific temperature region, relative movement is caused between the two bodies constructing an articulated arm. The two bodies are turnably supported on a shaft and the above-mentioned actuator is arranged in the state set off from one side relatively to a plane including this shaft so that two bodies are relatively turned around this shaft.

  • Patent number: 5002418
Abstract: A hold down device is provided using a drive knob having a clutch therein which turns a drive shaft for moving a pawl shaft in and out with respect to the drive shaft. A pawl on the end of the pawl shaft is provided with a cam-like surface which engages a cam-like aperture in a pawl receptacle. The pawl shaft has a cam follower which rides within a cam surface in a cam bracket that surrounds the shaft. Under the urging of a spring, the position of the pawl is controlled from its fully extended, unlocked position to a pre-capture position where the pawl is oriented at approximately 45.degree. to an aperture within the pawl receptacle. Insertion of the pawl into the pawl receptacle forces the pawl to rotate an additional 45.degree. against the urging of the spring. After full insertion of the pawl into the receptacle, the pawl rotates back to its 45.degree. position where it is captured therein.

Abstract: A clamping means for clamping the wires of a saddle to the upper end of a support post of a bicycle frame or the like. It consists of a lower cradle support clamping member and a cooperating upper clamping member which are mounted on the post to permit tilting of the saddle. The clamping members are so designed that they can be extruded from metal with a post-receiving socket at the lower side of the lower member. This socket, because the lower member is extruded, has a flat inner wall and side walls extending linearly in spaced relationship, with the side walls being at sharp angles to the inner flat wall to provide sharp corners for engaging the sides of the post at a fulcrum formed thereon to prevent lateral displacement of the lower cradle support on the post.

  • Patent number: 4986687
Abstract: A breakaway system is disclosed for timber utility poles. The breakaway system limits the amount of force and energy imparted to an impacting vehicle and its occupants by incorporating an arrangement of slip plates and bolts to form a shear plane on the utility pole at or near ground level, and by providing a hinge mechanism on an upper section of the utility pole below conducting lines and the like. The material and configuration of the lower shear plates are selected to permit activation for any direction of collision loading. The material and configuration of the upper connection or hinge are selected to allow for adequate resistance to environmental loads while at the same time allowing for precise determination of the magnitude of failure load. In addition, the combination of upper connectors prevents the lower portion of the utility pole from rotating upward into the conducting wires after a vehicle impact.
