  • Publication number: 20080216440
Abstract: Since an inside piece of a joint block is abutted to a rib of a second opposed piece under a pressure by engaging a first opposed piece of a frame member with the joint block, the inside piece can be securely abutted at the position of the rib even when the second opposed piece and the joint block are slightly deformed, which secures a predetermined joint intensity by preventing a variation of the abutment position. Since the joint block is abutted with the rib, the pressure per a dimension can be more increased than abutting with the whole surface of the inside piece, which consequently increases the frictional force to improve the joint intensity.

  • Patent number: 6944989
Abstract: A system and kit of components for winterizing plants and trees, where the invention comprises a skeletal frame formed by plural first tubular members, each having an upper end and a lower end. When assembled, the respective lower ends are spaced apart and positioned vertically and anchored within the ground surrounding the plant or tree. Joined between adjacent first tubular members are plural second tubular, horizontally oriented, members to form a generally square skeletal frame. About the skeletal frame is a light-transmitting plastic wrap. Overriding the skeletal frame is a top frame, preferably pivotal about a pair of upper ends, to allow access to the protected plant or tree. Additionally, the invention contemplates a cover, such as a plastic wrap or canvas-like material over the top frame to ensure complete protection of the plant or tree.

Abstract: A corner lock (20) includes a first leg member (21) operatively connected to a second leg member (22). The leg members generally conform to a portion of the shape of the channel cavities of the sash members (11-14) which they are securing together. The leg members (21 and 22) each have threaded apertures (21g and 22g) formed for receiving fastening members (92 and 93). When the fastening members are tightened in the threaded apertures, the fastening members engage a first corner surface and move the leg members against the second corner surfaces, thereby tightening and securing the sash members together without the necessity of holes being formed in the sash members.

  • Patent number: 5138814
Abstract: The partition wall units include panels with mitered tubular frame strips, posts, raceways which also can be adapted for baseboards, and covering edge strips. Most of these units include a groove along an outer edge into which are removably mounted interlocking or interhooking key members having uniform C-shaped cross-sections. These C-shaped cross-section key members on adjacent edges slideably engage each other to form cylindrical apertures between the two interhooked C's. Self-tapping screws are then screwed into these cylindrical apertures near the ends of the adjacent strip for locking the two units together. The substantially rectangular tubular frame strips around the panels have mitered joints which are connected by a pair of longitudinally complementary angle blocks with complementary grooves along their legs between their abutting surfaces.

Abstract: A fitting assembly for joining hollow pipes has a fitting having a two-piece elongated body with ends to fit within the pipes. The elongated body defines longitudinally extending inserting channels extending from one end to an intermediate portion. Once inserted into pipes, the two pieces are urged apart by a screw to lock the fitting in the pipes. A second two-piece fitting may be attached via its engagement with an inserting channel. The second fitting has a portion insertable into a pipe and may be clamped within the pipes and to the first fitting by a screw urging apart the two pieces of the second fitting.

Abstract: A bedding foundation comprises a pair of elongated rigid metal side rails, a pair of elongated rigid metal end rails, the side and end rails being fixed to each other and arranged to form a rectangle. A plurality of elongated rigid metal cross rails are fixed to and extend across the rectangle in spaced parallel relationship to one another. The side and end rails are joined together by insertion of an end of a respective side and end rail into respective channels of a corner joint having two open-ended channels formed therein at right angles to each other. The foundation rails comprise a top portion with a pair of side portions depending from the top portion defining a generally U-shaped channel with the top portion. Foundation covering is preferably attached to the foundation by tacking it to the metal rail or to a penetrable material carried within the side and end rail channels, or by using an elongated wedge to fix the covering within these channels.

  • Patent number: 5092063
Abstract: A picture frame comprises a series of abutting frame elements joined by corner pieces. Each of the frame elements includes an aperture into which the artwork and accompanying materials, such as cover glass, mats and the like are received. Flexible arms extend along the frame elements and are biased to retain the artwork within the aperture, and permits the effective retention of artwork of various thicknesses. The corner pieces include pair projections which engage complimentary bores in the frame elements to retain the frame elements in position. A pair of the cover pieces may be of a modified construction to allow removal of a frame elements after assembly to permit changing the artwork. In such embodiment, a single projection, rather than a pair of projections is utilized to engage the removable frame element.

  • Patent number: 5071281
Abstract: A joining device for joining adjacent frame members and in particular for joining picture frame members has at least two connected limbs having a trapezoidal cross-section with a first angle between the limbs. The first angle corresponds to the angle between adjacent frame members. The frame members have mitred ends and are provided with a recess, also having a trapezoidal cross-section, into which the limbs can be inserted, which results in abutment and joining of respective frame members. The trapezoidal shape of the joining device provides resistance to twisting of the frame members and also ensures a firm frictional engagement to hold the mitred ends of the frame members together. The joining device may have a second angle between the longitudinal axes of the limbs which results in the front surface edges of the mitred ends being forced together so as to make a less obvious join line between frame members.

Abstract: In a spacer frame for use in separating panes of glass of an insulated glass panel, a cornerpiece has first and second arms joined by a flexible hinge to permit angular movement of said arms with respect to one another. The first and second arms each have a first portion that has a cross-sectional area substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of a spacer bar into which they are inserted, and a second portion that protrudes from the spacer bar that is of a cross section larger than said first portion to form a shoulder that is adjacent and abutting the end of the spacer bar. The shoulder is substantially continuous around its perimeter to substantially eliminate moisture paths from outside said spacer bar to the interior of the spacer bar. The folded corner presents an essentially solid mass that prevents moisture from entering the spacer bar.
