Abstract: An adjustable support stand for an article such as a camera employs a plurality of elongated links connected to one another at their ends by lockable universal joints. Each joint consists of a pair of complementary knuckles, each joined to a link end by a splined connection, which connections provide two axes of rotation to the joint. The knuckles are joined to one another about a third axis of rotation, perpendicular to the first two axes by means of a splined pin which passes through splined holes in the two knuckles. The splined connections employ splines of different count to achieve a high resolution of possible positions.

Abstract: In a frame structure of a small vehicle, an abutting surface abutting against a first frame member is provided on a second frame member constituting a part of a vehicle frame together with the first frame member. The second frame member is welded to the first frame member by an outer periphery of the abutting surface. The two frame members constituting a part of the vehicle frame are also welded together by the outer periphery of the abutting surface formed on the second frame member so as to abut against the first frame member. This achieves a decrease in the size and weight of the second frame member while sufficiently ensuring joining strength thereof. An opening portion open to an abutting surface is provided in a second frame member to expose a part of a first frame member. The second frame member is welded to the first frame member by a periphery of the opening portion.

Abstract: A helical grooved pin for insertion into a hole in a hard host material includes a formed portion of helical lands and grooves. Pin material from the grooves is displaced to define lands at an expanded diameter relative to the pin stock material. The forming process employs a rolling die configured to produce substantially uniform cylindrical land surfaces. The helical lands have a width that is at least five times the height of the land. The expanded diameter of the formed portion of the pin is no more than 5% larger than the diameter of the pin stock material. These proportions provide a uniform, durable and reliable retaining surface to the pin which is particularly useful in applications where the host material is harder than the pin.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and a device for dividing a tubular flagpole. This is achieved by introducing into the flagpole an elongated body, which over at least part of its length has a geometric shape, which in concert with a complementary geometric shape inside the flagpole ensures that the flagpole can be cut and assembled in a way that guarantees the rectilinear continuity of the flagpole. The complementary geometric shape is formed in that, after the body is introduced into the flagpole, a filling material is injected so that the space between the flagpole and the elongated body is filled. The flagpole is then cut around the elongated body down to the outer surface of the body so that the geometric shape allows the flagpole to be divided into two sections at the cutting side, the body remaining fixed to one of the sections.

The wedge shaped spline is positioned between and in abutment with the upper portion of the spaced apart flanges. A fan shaped mortise on the back surface of a work piece is positioned over the wedge shaped spline between and abutting the upper portion of the spaced apart flanges. Pressure is applied on the front surface of the work surface of the work piece for seating the work piece on the divider track, thereby forcing the wedge shaped spline between the flanges and spreading the flanges. The spread apart flanges engage the side walls of the fan shaped mortise for joining the work piece in a dovetailed joint with the divider track.

Abstract: A furniture system includes a bed section and a work and storage section, each of which includes spaced end frame assemblies defined by corner posts and cross-members. The corner posts of each section can be stacked using a connector member to provide a loft bed configuration, and various storage or work components, such as a desk, are connectable to the posts below the bed. The posts include inwardly and outwardly facing recesses, and spaced vertical slots are formed in one of the recess walls. The bed includes rails having end tabs engageable within selected slots for adjustably securing the bed rails to and between the posts. The storage components and the desk also include bracket structure having tabs engageable within the post slots for adjustably mounting such components to the posts.

Abstract: A sealed coupler includes a splined pin that moves axially inside orifices formed in the two or more members, and a rotating actuator. The actuator can be threaded to engage a threaded end of the pin, or it can include one or more cams to engage one or more cam followers coupled to the pin to move the pin inside the orifices. The pin moves axially between a locking position, where the members are rotationally locked, and an unlocking position, where the members are free to rotate relative to each other, in response to rotation of the actuator.

Abstract: A plastic hula hoop incorporating a decorative outer fabric and a coupling member for securing the free ends of the hula hoop together and the free ends of the decorative fabric within the interior area of each free end of the hula hoop. The coupling member forms a single piece plastic component having a pair of channels on opposite sides of the central portion. The channels accept the free ends of the fabric during assembly such that when the free ends of the plastic hoop portion are urged together, the free ends of the fabric are captured and held securely within the interior area of the plastic hoop portion of the hula hoop. The coupling member is especially well adapted to function with non-stretchable fabric such as nylon.

  • Patent number: 6032390
Abstract: In an excavation bucket, the nose of an adapter has two surfaces to take the horizontal loads and four surfaces to take the vertical loads. A pin holds and locks a tooth to the adapter. Projections on the pin engage sloping surfaces of the nose. A recess placed ahead of the nose of the adapter will become visible as the tooth erodes due to wear. A recess at the nose of the adapter indicates that the tooth has worn too much and, unless the tooth is replaced, will commence to cause wear of the adapter and adjacent parts. To attach the adapter to the lip of the excavation bucket, wedge members are joined together near one end thereof to form a wedge-shaped block insertable into a wedge-shaped space formed by a C-clamp surface and a slot in the lip. The block is forced into the space, and spring biased teeth carried by the lock box progressively enter and leave the recesses in the outer surface of the C-clamp. When the C-clamp is tight enough in the gap, the installation of the lock box is complete.

Abstract: A plate-joinery system includes a chain-saw plate joiner where the cutting mechanism includes a cutting-chain driven about a saw-bar. The cutting mechanism of the chain-saw plate joiner may be advanced on rails to one of a set of predetermined depths. The increased recess depth allowed by the chain-saw and the resultant increase in both glueable surface area and mechanical engagement permit high-strength right-angle joints to be made with the speed of conventional plate-joinery. Plate-joints of more conventional proportion may also be made. The plate joinery system also includes specialty plate configurations and compatible fasteners that permit many joints to be rapidly assembled without resort to either manual glue application or external clamps. A series of high-precision, low-friction cutting devices suitable for general introduction is also described.

Abstract: A head rest and restraint assembly has, as its principal component, a padded, shaped arm which has one end thereof contained in a mounting member. The contained end has a splined portion thereon which is adapted to mate with an interior splined portion of the mounting member, which comprises a hollow cylinder. Adjustment of the angular arm is accomplished by pushing the end of the arm into the cylinder against the force of a coil sprint until the splines dis-engage, allowing rotation of the arm, when the arm is released, the spring forces the splines into re-engagement, thereby fixing the angular orientation of the arm. Pairs of arms mounted in brackets, for example, can be used with existing vehicular headrests, or a replacement or new head rest may be formed with bores to accept and hold the mounting means.
