Patent number: 4431334Abstract: An outer collar on a power takeoff yoke sleeve locks against an inner collar to rotate the yoke and sleeve in a first direction to align splines within the sleeve with splines on a power takeoff stub shaft. Cooperating teeth between the inner collar and the outer collar permit the outer collar to rotate freely in the opposite direction. The outer collar surrounds the inner collar and detent operators and the small end of a ball which protects the yoke from unintentional contact. The outer collar is grasped and is slightly turned to align the yoke splines and stub shaft splines while pushing the outer collar toward the stub shaft to slide the sleeve over the stub shaft. The stub shaft pushes a detent holdout longitudinally and releases the detent to move inward into a groove on the stub shaft. A heavy spring on the sleeve pushes a detent operating and locking device axially to move the detent inward into the groove in the stub shaft.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1982Date of Patent: February 14, 1984Assignee: Rockwell International CorporationInventors: Donald C. Patent number: 4367602Abstract: Two staple-like spring metal parts designated "lock" and "key" are provided to retain an excavating tooth in a holder. The lock part slides into an opening in the holder for the tooth around a reduced diameter portion of the shank of the tooth and thereby prevents withdrawal of the tooth by interfering with the outward movement of a button on the extreme end of the shank. The legs of the lock are biased outwardly by reason of the unstressed shape of the lock. These outwardly biased legs are forced inward by insertion in the opening of a key which fits outward of the lock and forces the legs of the lock inward into locked position, engaging a portion of the shank. When the key is removed, it provides space for outward movement of the legs of the lock and thereby prevents a tendency of dirt compacting in the opening of the holder from preventing withdrawal of the lock.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1981Date of Patent: January 11, 1983Inventor: Gerald A. Petersen

Patent number: 4362415Abstract: An extensible and retractable strut comprising telescoping pairs of members the outer of which carries a manually operable collar that is slideable between locking and unlocking positions. The collar carries a manually-releasable pivoted locking lever having an offset end that can be received in an opening of the outer member to lock the strut in adjusted position against release when the collar is in its locking position. When the collar is in the unlocking position, the offset portion of the lever is out of registration with the opening and instead bears against the exterior of the outer member. For such circumstance the members are relatively moveable between their extended and retracted positions. A keying means carried by the collar is engageable with cooperable means on the outer member to maintain the collar in a given aligning position.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1981Date of Patent: December 7, 1982Assignee: Norco, Inc.Inventors: Joseph R. Patent number: 4132147Abstract: A retention and release mechanism utilizes a collet with deflectable fingers to allow assembly of the mechanism onto an object which is to be retained. Movement of the object toward the mechanism causes a force to be exerted on the bottom end of a plunger and movement of the plunger, which is coupled to a lockpin by a plurality of spherical balls and a split ring, from a released to a retained position. In the retained position, the balls secure the lockpin in a fixed position relative to the collet while mating tapered surfaces at the ends of the collet fingers and the lockpin cooperate to retain the object to which an expendable bushing has been attached, the bushing being part of the mechanism. To release the object, a force must be exerted on the top end of the plunger to move it to an axial position wherein the balls are released from their fixed position relative to the collet and the mating tapered surfaces move away from each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1977Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Assignee: SPS Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Attilio Contaldo

Patent number: 4070013Abstract: An elongated channel-shaped body is provided including a pair of opposite side longitudinal flanges and an elongated bight portion extending between and interconnecting one pair of corresponding longitudinal edge portions of the flanges. One of the flanges is rigid with and thus fixed relative to the bight portion and the other flange is pivotaly supported therefrom for oscillation about an axis extending longitudinally of the body along the adjacent marginal edges of the pivoted flange and the bight portion. The pivoted flange is oscillatable between a closed position with the adjacent sides of the flanges substantially parallel and an open position with the free longitudinal edge of the pivoted flange swung away from the free edge of the rigid flange.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1977Date of Patent: January 24, 1978Inventor: Jack R.
