Radially Sliding Catch Patents (Class 403/328)
  • Patent number: 5083883
Abstract: A locking structure for a spring-loaded, pushbutton pin coupler, the inveon prevents inadvertent or accidental depression of a "button latch" pin which can result in an uncoupled joint. The present locking structure cooperates with a pushbutton pin connector such as is commonly used on collapsible or extendible arms or legs. According to the invention, a conventional button latch pin is provided with a locking plate at its inner end, rotation of the pin after coupling of joint with the pin causes the locking plate to also rotate into engagement with a fixed pin element carried by the structure coupled by the pin, thereby preventing displacement of the pin from the locked position.

  • Patent number: 5062826
Abstract: The invention provides a device for locking the base of a blood centrifugation cell on a rotatable generally disc shaped chuck plate. The chuck plate encloses a plurality of elastic locators which extend radially a slight distance from the periphery of the plate. The plate further encloses a plurality of locking means which are biased to remain within the dimensions of the plate at rest and which are radially extendable by centrifugal force to extend beyond the periphery of the plate. An annular locking ring engages the base of the cell and extends around the periphery of the chuck plate. The locking ring has a plurality of internal recesses for initially receiving the elastic locators, and the locking means during centrifugation to secure the cell to the chuck plate.

  • Patent number: 4859110
Abstract: A coupling device suitable for connecting an externally splined power take-off stub shaft to a corresponding internally splined yoke with a universal joint. The coupling mechanism includes an automatic release to the locked position and locks axially onto the shaft by way of locking balls. A collar with flexible tabs is manually rotatable to the unlocked position and is triggered to rotate to the locked position by the locking balls. When the externally splined shaft is inserted into the internally splined yoke, the end of the shaft trips the balls causing the flexible tabs in the collar to move radially outward, releasing the collar which rotates to the locked position. The collar rotates camming the balls on a formed metal ring inside the plastic collar to the locked position. Rotation is produced by a fully enclosed torsional spring connected to the collar and the yoke and prevents over-rotation in either direction.

  • Patent number: 4857706
Abstract: An ironing accessory is adapted to be releasably carried on the discharge nozzle of a standard hair blow dryer and includes a flat plate having multiple openings discharging hot air from the nozzle. A cylindrical collar carried on the plate insertably receives the nozzle, and resilient grippers are disposed in a radial arrangement on the inside of the collar for releasably attaching with the nozzle. A cam arrangement is carried on the inside surface of a retaining ring and, rotatable therewith, advances the grippers into engagement with the nozzle as a ratchet mechanism retains the grippers in position as the ring is rotated. Resilient pushbuttons disconnect the ratchet mechanism to release the grippers for nozzle removal.

  • Patent number: 4836707
Abstract: In accordance with this invention, a releasable clamping apparatus (10) is constructed having an opening or slot (14) within which a lifting handle (28 or 30) is clamped between retaining latch portions (62, 64) and a clamp assembly (34). The latch portions (62, 64) are supported by openings (56, 58) and are retracted and extended into a slot (14) by spring biased linkage members (78, 80). These members (78, 80) are acted upon by similarly profiled cam lobes (116, 116a, 118, 118a). Dissimilarly profiled cam lobes (126, 128) of the cam member (110) act upon the clamp assembly (34), clamping a handle (28 or 30) against faces (68) of the latch portions (62, 64). The cam member (110) is coupled to a shaft (162) having an operating handle (32), with the shaft (32) also being provided with a detent assembly (202). This detent assembly (202) locks the handle (32) and the shaft (162) in "locked" positions (38 or 40) in the surface (198) of the apparatus (10), which clamps a handle (28 or 30) as described.

  • Patent number: 4822203
Abstract: A connector for pipes has two tubular parts each with three angularly spaced inclined bores intersecting the inner surface of the parts and containing balls engaging inclined wedge surfaces and biassed axially by respective springs. In use the parts are drawn together by rotating nuts on studs and the balls grip the pipes and compress a seal, the balls gouging into the pipes. The recesses could be on the outer side of the parts for engaging an external pipe. The balls can move axially and radially in the recesses for accommodating local ovality and engage surfaces over an arc of circumference of the balls. The parts need not be tubular and one part could be closed off to provide an end cap for the pipe in the other to form a clamp.

  • Patent number: 4781274
Abstract: An assembly for preventing reverse rotary rotation of a disc includes openings having circumferentially spaced-apart ends formed in the disc. The leading end has an abutment surface perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the disc. The trailing end of the opening is ramped. Pins are mounted to a stationary support opposite the openings in the disc and are biased toward the disc. The outer end of each pin is sized to fit within the openings and has an abutment surface oriented perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the disc and configured for complementary mating engagement with the abutment surface defining the forward edge of the opening. The outer end of the pin is an angled or ramped surface. Forward rotation of the disc causes the two ramped surfaces to engage, biasing the pin away from the disc. The pin then slides along the surface of the disc until another opening is encountered at which time the process is repeated.
