  • Patent number: 4561796
Abstract: A construction for clamping together a first member and a second member. The first member is formed with a bolt hole, and is in contact with the second member which is formed with an elongated slot. The shank portion of a bolt passes through the elongated slot and into the bolt hole to engage with the first member. A block member lying within the elongated slot is formed with a hole through which the shank portion of the bolt passes. The head of the bolt presses the block member into the slot, towards the first member. The side walls of the block member are in contact with the side walls of the slot. At least one of the side walls of the block member or of the slot angles inwards, and the block member is so thick in the direction across the slot that without deformation of the parts the block member cannot be pulled by the bolt so far through the slot towards the first member as to contact the first member.

  • Patent number: 4233887
Abstract: A piston-cylinder unit having structure incorporated into the cylinder housing which will facilitate the connection of an end cap member without affecting the thickness of the sidewall construction of the cylinder housing. One end of the cylinder housing has a flared end, particularly a radially extending flange with one axially facing surface thereof forming a stop surface. The other axially facing surface forms a contact surface. The end cap member is composed of two parts, one part being the end cap itself with a central opening therein receiving the piston rod therethrough. The other part is a screw collar ring having internally threaded holes therein for receiving screws to effect a coupling of the end cap member thereto. The end cap member engages the stop surface and the screw collar ring engages the contact surface. A tightening of the screws will effect a clamping of the radial flange between the end cap member and the screw collar ring.

  • Patent number: 4192621
Abstract: The invention refers to a method for interconnecting two flange-provided shaft ends by means of taper pin bolts and expander sleeves co-operating therewith as well as a shaft coupling assembled accordingly. The shaft coupling is intended to transfer very large torques and great bending stresses, e.g. in steam and nuclear power plants. The new shaft coupling and the mounting method enable the use of the same bolt as an expansion-shell bolt, for achieving the desired press fit, and as a set bolt, which can be pre-loaded to function like a hard-tightened fitting bolt. This has been achieved on one hand by preventing the expander sleeve from moving axially, when the bolt is tightened, and on the other hand by abolishing the friction between the sleeve and the bolt after achieving the desired press fit, whereupon the bolt is further tightened up close to the yield point of the bolt. In this position the bolt is fixed by means of the nut so that the bolt preserves the desired press fit as well as the pre-load.

  • Patent number: 4120175
Abstract: A flexible shaft coupling wherein the flange of at least one of the shafts is flexible and its marginal portion is separably fastened to the marginal portion of the other flange. The flanges surround thrust transmitting elements which are urged against each other as a result of deformation of the flexible flange in response to fastening to the other flange. The flexible flange may be integral with or it may be separably fastened to the shank of the respective shaft. The flexibility of the coupling is enhanced if the flexible flange is provided with or mounted between knife edges which permit such flange to snap over in response to tilting of one shaft with respect to the other shaft and/or vice versa. The thrust transmitting elements may be integral with the respective shafts or they may constitute removable inserts. One of the thrust transmitting elements has a convex face which bears against a flat face of the other element so that the elements are in mere point contact with each other.
