  • Patent number: 6357194
Abstract: The tapered dovetail joint is a method of joining two boards, or other rigid materials such as particleboard, wafer board, etc., by a unique type of modified dovetail joint. The modification to the classic dovetail joint includes tapering the dovetail pins as well as the dovetail tails with the same angle of taper in the same direction. The mating of this tapered dovetail joint will be greatly facilitated due to these corresponding tapers. The tapered nature of this joint minimizes difficulties in assembly due to the wedging action that takes place as the two boards are brought into union to create the joint. This wedging action allows the joint to be assembled even when there is moderate damage to the tails or pins including swelling—due to moisture, from the time of manufacture to time of assembly, impact damage, as well as minor manufacturing tolerance deficiencies in cutting of the pins and tails.

  • Patent number: 5344252
Abstract: This key comprises a pair of elongated blocks each having a tapered recess; a tapered pin adapted to be inserted in a tubular tapered portion which is formed by bringing the pair of blocks together in such a manner that the tapered recesses confront, and mutually displaceable in the axial direction; and a clamping member adapted to be screwed into a threaded portion provided on one end of the tapered pin or the tubular tapered portion. The key obtained by assembling these parts can be fitted into a key groove provided between a driving member and a driven member. The clamping member is rotated to mutually displace the tapered pin with respect to the tubular tapered portion in the axial direction, thereby separating the blocks from each other, thus pressing the outer walls of the blocks against the inner wall of the key groove. As a result, the key is firmly fitted into the key groove, and the drive member and the driven member can be securely coupled together with a higher reliability.

Abstract: An arrangement for readily joining a plastic handgrip knob to a metal gearshift rod in a positive non-slip manner. The handgrip includes a plastic core member molded with an axial blind bore defining a linear key therein extending a predetermined axial distance from the upper terminus at the bore closed end to its lower terminus spaced from the bore open end. The junctures of the key sides with the internal surface of the bore define a pair of fillets coextensive with the key with the fillets being tapered from a maximum chordal distance at the key lower terminus to minimum chordal distance at the bore closed end. The rod is formed with a keyway extending from the rod upper end a predetermined distance sufficient to receive the key therein.

  • Patent number: 4653307
Abstract: A bending tool for a bending press comprising an upper die member detachably secured to a vertically reciprocable ram for bending a flat metal workpiece to a predetermined depth in a lower female bending die. The bottom surface of the female bending die cavity is formed by a plurality of flat headed pins in side by side slots or bores. The heads of the pins form the bottom flat surface of a longitudinal groove which forms the bottom die cavity surface. The vertical adjustment of the pins is provided by the interfitting combination of a left side wedge assembly, a middle wedge assembly and a right side wedge assembly. The interfitting prevents displacement of any one of the supporting assemblies for the pins to assure improved bending precision.

  • Patent number: 4630994
Abstract: A device for axially and circumferentially locking two stationary components of a turbomachine, each of which is at least part of a ring and wherein the components are concentrically engaged along opposed surfaces. The device comprises a locking member including a disc portion and an axially projecting angular segment on the disc portion forming a step thereon. The components have axially aligned intercommunicating hollows, the hollow of a first of the components having a laterally open recess. The locking member is engaged in the hollow of the stationary components in a locking position by inserting the disc portion into the hollow of the first component through the recess thereof, then axially displacing the locking member to engage the disc portion thereof into the hollow of the second component and thereafter angularly rotating the locking member to engage its angular segment into the hollow of the first component through its recess.

  • Patent number: 4618116
Abstract: A quick latch mounting device for securing a standoff device to a standoff bracket used in electrical power distribution systems. The mounting device includes a mounting member attachable to the standoff device and movable in a horizontal plane between a first position clamped to the bracket and a second unclamped position, and an actuator having either a cam or a lever for movement in a vertical plane. A clamping member is carried by the mounting member and operatively couples the actuator and the mounting member. The clamping member is slidably movable relative to the mounting member along oblique sliding interfaces to translate the vertical movement of the actuator into the horizontal movement of the mounting member so that the mounting member may be firmly clamped or unclamped to the bracket.

  • Patent number: 4512681
Abstract: The present specification discloses a tapered, longitudinally-split contractible taper bush for securing pulleys, sprockets, coupling flanges or other machine elements onto cylindrical shafts and utilizing a plurality of screws or bolts parallel with the hub axis for effecting wedging of the bush between the hub of the element and the shaft onto which it is mounted. Known bushes of this type suffer an out of balance moment due to the arrangemnt of locking holes, part threaded holes provided for de-wedging and bush removal, and the size of the longitudinally extending slit which is necessary to promote flexibility in the bush for bush removal. The present invention overcomes the out of balance problem by providing profiling in the region of the longitudinal slit so that the disposition of metal is then such as to compensate for the mass imbalance in both the bush and a co-operating mating hub, a rotationally balanced system being thus provided.

Abstract: In a torque transmitting coupling between a cylindrical shaft and a female member having a bore to receive the shaft, the shaft has a secant face and the female member has a connecting bolt bore which intersects the shaft bore and faces the secant face of the shaft. A connecting bolt in the bolt bore of the female member has a secant face which tightly engages the secant face of the shaft. In one embodiment, the shaft axis, secant faces of the shaft and bolt and the bolt bore are all parallel. In another embodiment the axis of the bolt bore is inclined at a small angle to the secant face, the bolt being of wedge form. • Patent number: H906
Abstract: A wedge assembly that is easily inserted between two surfaces to be supported thereby, and thereafter expanded to produce a selected spacing between those surfaces. This wedge assembly has two outer members that are substantially identical except that they are mirror images of each other. Oppositely directed faces of these of these outer members are substantially parallel for the purpose of contacting the surfaces to be separated. The outer faces of these outer members that are directed toward each other are tapered so as to contact a center member having complementary tapers on both faces. A washer member is provided to contact a common end of the outer members, and a bolt member penetrates this washer and is threadably received in a receptor of the center member. As the bolt member is threaded into the center member, the center member is drawn further into the gap between the outer members and thereby separates these outer members to contact the surfaces to be separated.
