Patent number: 4290711Abstract: A construction for locking the hub of a gear or other means to a shaft. The shaft is cylindrical but is cut away to form a flat surface parallel to the axis of the hub. A wedge has a portion which fills the cavity between the cylindrical inside surface of the hub and the flat surface on the shaft. An integral lug portion of the wedge extends radially outwardly into a slot in the hub so as to prevent the hub from turning with respect to the wedge. The wedge is prevented from turning with respect to the shaft by its flat bottom surface which is coextensive with the flat surface on the shaft. That provides a driving relationship between the hub and the shaft. The driving relationship between the wedge and the hub is through side surfaces of the cavity in the hub and the lug portion of the wedge.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1980Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Assignee: Moldex, Inc.Inventors: Ellis H. Patent number: 4075902Abstract: An improved variable speed pulley for adjusting the drive ratio between two shafts interconnected through two pulleys and a V-belt. The variable speed pulley has a hub which is attached through to one shaft with a collet. A number of keys of generally square cross sections with two opposed chamfered corners are located at each end of the hub in V-shaped axially directed keyways spaced around the periphery of the hub and in correspondingly spaced V-shaped keyways around interior openings through each of two sheave halves to permit axial movement of the sheave halves on the hub. Bushings retain the four keys within each sheave half. The bushings and the keys are of a compliant material to prevent fretting corrosion. The keys engage the bushings to prevent the bushings from rotating with respect to the sheave half and hub. A helical spring located within a spring housing is compressed between each sheave half and an adjacent one of two retainer rings located in grooves near each end of the hub.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1976Date of Patent: February 28, 1978Assignee: Dana CorporationInventors: Loris J. Patent number: 4032247Abstract: A lockable wedge for securing heavy objects in place is disclosed. The wedge has typically a thin forward edge or face tapering to a thick rear edge or face with a longitudinally grooved, inclined surface connecting the forward edge to the upper junction of the rear edge and inclined surface. A substantially vertical tubular hole located near the rear edge communicates with said longitudinal groove. A stiff, bendable rod member shaped to have one end positioned in said hole and the remainder of the rod disposed within said groove and extending to a point near or beyond the forward edge of the wedge forms the locking element of the wedge. The wedge locks in place by having the wedge positioned such that the forward edge of the wedge extends beyond a vertical surface of the wedged object so that the forward end of the rod member may be bent into an upright position to prevent the wedge from being dislodged rearwardly.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1976Date of Patent: June 28, 1977Inventor: Kenneth G.
