  • Patent number: 5641237
Abstract: A sleeve for coupling a tool to a handle includes a collar, a shank and a pair of resilient clips. The collar defines proximal and distal ends, and includes an exterior surface which converges from the proximal end toward the distal end. In addition, the collar includes a central bore for receiving a shaft of the tool. In an especially preferred form, the central bore is so dimensioned as to fit closely around a shaft of the tool. • Patent number: 5562358
Abstract: A device for clamping upper and lower rims to the respective upper and lower spindles of a tire uniformity machine. The device includes wedge component having an outer surface contacting the inner surface of a rim and a tapered inner surface contacting a similarly tapered surface of the spindle, is displaced axially relative to the tapered surface of the spindle. Such axial displacement is translated into a radial displacement of the wedge component as a consequence of the wedge effect between the tapered surface of the wedge component and tapered surface of the spindle. If the wedge component is displaced radially outward, its outer surface pushes against the inner surface of the rim and the rim is clamped through the frictional force between the inner surface of the rim and the outer surface of the wedge component.

Abstract: An improved apparatus for manually manipulating a surgical laser beam is disclosed. The preferred embodiment of the invention includes a mirror nominally positioned at a 45 degree angle to the incident laser beam, a joy stick for manipulating the mirror, and a linkage interconnecting the two. The mirror is mounted to allow it to rotate about two mutually perpendicular and intersecting axes. The linkage operates to direct the reflected laser beam in two orthogonal dimensions such that a ratio between the movement of the reflected beam in each dimension is equivalent to the ratio of the movement of the joy stick in each dimension. This yields a reflected laser beam that moves a distance proportional to the amount of motion input to the joy stick. The reduction or amplification ratio between the input motion and the reflected laser beam motion remains constant, regardless of the direction of motion.

The shim includes an elongated flat body having a generally U-shaped recess at one end and which is adapted to be inserted in between the planetary gear and the frame so that the shaft is positioned within the U-shaped recess. The opposite end of the shim includes a locking tab which abuts against a portion of the frame thus simultaneously locking the shim against pivotal movement and locking the shaft in the U-shaped recess on the shim body. The U-shaped shim serves to channel lubrication into the shim and around the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4895475
Abstract: Method of constructing an assembly having as one element a right circular cylinder with center bore and accurately machined and lapped circular surfaces and perpendicular end faces, and as another element a hollow shaft fitted and joined within said center bore in a manner unable to transmit distorting strain to said cylinder when said shaft has a coefficient of expansion greater than that of said cylinder. The shaft either has an interrupted exterior with severely limited contact areas for joining adhesively to the bore surface or is of other structure that is incapable of straining the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4889443
Abstract: A generally cylindrical shaft has a longitudinally extending flat area along its end section. A plastic member mounted on the shaft has a longitudinal bore complimentary in shape to and fitting around the shaft end section. The bore includes a longitudinally extending recess projecting radially outward from the flat area of the shaft. A locking sleeve fits within the bore and around the shaft and includes a generally U-shaped portion received in the recess. The U-shaped portion is discontinuous intermediate its ends, providing first and second longitudinal portions adjacent its ends. A screw passes through the first longitudinal portion and threadedly engages the second longitudinal portion for drawing the portions together.

  • Patent number: 4834570
Abstract: A spring-locking member is provided for use with a male member such as a two-by-four which is adapted for insertion into a female member such as an end frame member for outdoor furniture and the like. The spring-locking member is of resilient material and has a substantially constant cross-section in one direction. The cross-section includes a central portion and two side portions integral with the central portion. The side portions are upwardly offset with respect to the central portion, and each has a downwardly directed portion at its end remote from the central portion. The configuration is such that, in use, the spring-locking member is bent inwardly at the central portion to lie against the male member.

  • Patent number: 4813163
Abstract: An alignment fitting for implements such as buckets and hammers, which are to be removably attached to a bachhoe. The invention includes a pair of cylindrical bosses, which are affixed to opposing apertures in mounting flanges on the implement. A cylindrical bushing is rotatable inside each boss. A pin is placed through an eccentric bore in each bushing, and through the backhoe dipperstick. The eccentricity of the bushings allows the bushings to compensate for misalignment that may occur in the implement or the backhoe dipperstick. The invention may also be used with a hitch to provide greater tolerances when nonstandard size implements are attached.

  • Patent number: 4808015
Abstract: An improved clutch release bearing assembly includes a sliding sleeve providing first and second sliding surfaces respectively facing the bore of a bearing and a guide element extending through the bore, both surfaces minimizing binding, wear or excessive friction between the bearing and the guide element during relative reciprocal motion therebetween. The sleeve, preferably fashioned from plastic, finds particular utility in a clutch release bearing surrounding a transmission shaft retainer or quill tube. The length of the sleeve is such that the bearing may slide on an outer sliding surface for a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4775250
Abstract: A replaceable shim is provided for a planetary gear arrangement of the type having planetary gears each of which is rotatably mounted to a frame by a shaft. The shim includes an elongated flat body having a generally U-shaped recess at one end and which is adapted to be inserted in between the planetary gear and the frame so that the shaft is positioned within the U-shaped recess. The opposite end of the shim is then pivotal to a position in which the opposite end abuts against a portion of the frame thus locking the shaft in the U-shaped recess on the shim body. A bendable locking tab is then bent to a position in which the bending tab abuts against a second surface on the frame and prevents further pivotting of the shim. In doing so, the bending tab locks the shim to the frame with the planetary gear shaft positioned within the shim recess.
