Abstract: For the directional drilling of boreholes, the orientation of accelerometer modules, magnetometer modules and gyroscopes or other directional sensing devices must be accurately known and maintained with respect to each other and to external mounting devices. This is accomplished by a self-aligning segmented cylindrical connection which accurately maintains modules in rotational alignment with each other for all three directions of rotation, even if the mating surfaces of the connection experience wear due to rough use in the drilling application or repeated calibration in a calibration fixture. Wedged surfaces on each of the male and female portions of the connection constitute the mating surfaces, and are the only surfaces at which the male and female portions contact one another. A depression between the mating surfaces defined by the female portion permits reproducible angular displacement of one portion with respect to the other even if one or both portions are worn.

The pin is seated in a small bore alongside the socket in which the insert is press fitted, and is adapted to be deformed into locking engagement with the insert and with the sidewall of the bore which may be trepanned or undercut.

Abstract: A display stand for merchandise such as clothing or the like includes a base supporting a telescopic stand structure formed from a pair of telescopic tubular members. The upper tubular member has an inner end portion including an angled cam surface thereon which receives a cam member between the cam surface and an adjacent inner wall of the lower or outer tubular member. A threaded rod is secured to the cam and extends through the upper tubular member to an upper threaded free end on which a nut is threadably received. Rotation of the nut causes the cam to wedge between the inclined surface of the inner tubular member and the inner adjacent surface of the outer tubular member, to lock the telescopic members in position.

  • Patent number: 4168636
Abstract: A refrigeration compressor having a plurality of pistons reciprocated by a crankshaft and in which the crankshaft is made up of two parts that are permanently fixed together by means of a sleeve which is press fit over adjacent ends of the two pieces of the crankshaft. The adjacent ends also have complementary parts which inter-engage with one another so as to hold the throws of the crankshaft parts in proper relationship and timing to one another. A bearing is mounted on the press fit sleeve and a split bearing support then embraces the bearing so as to hold the assembly in precise support in the compressor frame. The split bearing support includes a lower bearing support case to which is bolted an upper semi-circular cap. The support case is also semi-circular and has a radial split cut into it which is bridged by a tapered pin so that upon tightening of the pin the bearing support case is urged apart or expanded to thereby be tightly mounted in the compressor frame.

Abstract: Described is a magnetically coupled pump and an impeller assembly therefor. In a magnetically coupled pump wherein the hub portion of a rotary impeller is inserted within the bore of a hollow cylindrical driven magnet to be rotated by a surrounding annular driving magnet, the hub portion of the impeller is provided with a deformable projection. A tapered wedge is inserted into the bore to deform the projection and to attach the driven magnet to the hub. The tapered wedge is formed of graphite which also performs the function of a bushing upon which the impeller is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4148446
Abstract: A dual sensitive retractor prevents protraction of webbing when either a predetermined vehicle acceleration or webbing acceleration occurs. The reel includes a shaft which is rotatably mounted on a frame. Locking means, in the form of a lock cup, on the frame moves locking pawls into and out of the path of ratchet teeth on the reel. An inertia mass is mounted on the shaft for rotation with respect to the shaft, and an inertia weight is provided which is responsive to changes in the inertia of the vehicle. The invention includes the improvement of providing a latch and means for mounting the latch for engaging the locking means to prevent webbing protraction. Drive means, which in one embodiment is a cam fixed to the shaft contacting the latch generally is driven by the shaft and is connected to the latch to impart rotation from the shaft to the inertia mass and to move the latch into engagement with the locking means when the webbing acceleration rotates the shaft faster than the inertia mass.
