Abstract: A marine shackle has a body with an integral post projecting from it, the integral post having an integral enlarged head. Retaining means for the shackle is an eye part an aperture in which can be passed freely over the head of the post. To retain the eye in the shackle a split collar is placed around the post between the aperture of the eye and the head of the post which is of dimensions such that the aperture is now not free to pass back over the head of the post. A spacer may be then positioned between the aperture of the eye and the body of the shackle to maintain the eye part permanently around the split collar. A particular conformation of latch for the closable/openable loop of the shackle is also disclosed.
Abstract: A releasable locking device comprising a first and a second member movable into and out of engagement with each other, and one or more latch elements arranged within an inner space defined by said members when engaged. The latch elements are freely movable in that space which includes an annular channel, under the influence of gravity between a first position in which they do not interfere with movement of said members into and out of engagement with each other, and a second position in which the latch element or elements block movement of said members out of engagement with each other. The said members preferably comprise a socket member having a recess and a tubular stud member receivable therein. Due to the fact that the latch elements are movable under the influence of gravity the position or orientation of the locking device determines whether the latch elements are in their locking or releasing position.
Abstract: An apparatus for anchoring a ring tensioning member in a circular container, especially a concrete tank or a concrete tube, characterized by a hemispherical anchorage body being located in a recess in the wall thickness of the container in overhung position having on its circumference at least one slot and through bores for a bracing cable. The bracing cable which has been inserted in the wall of said container and prestressed by a stretching mechanism will be anchored in said anchorage body, whereafter the recess will be covered in such a way as to be in alignment with the surface of said container.
Abstract: A device for clamping and stopping elongated objects. The device encompasses a passage adapted to receive at least a section of an elongated object to be stopped. Two jaws are located on both sides of this passage and are associated with a mounting arrangement to displace the jaws toward and away from the section for insertion of the elongated object and to clamp and release it. The device is a cable stopper in which the jaws catch and stop a cable led through the passage.
Abstract: A coupling for connecting a rotating member to a shaft. The shaft has two flat, diametrically-opposite, axially-extending flat surfaces. Keys at an outer surface taper inwardly in opposite directions. A spring on the large end of each key urges the key to slide toward the shaft and in opposite direction so that the shaft is always held against vibration.
Abstract: In the embodiment shown, the coupling means comprises an annular wedge which is insertable between the stem and the cutterhead of a raise borer, the wedge being bolted to the cutterhead to effect contact pressure in order that rotary torque will be transmitted from the stem to the cutterhead. A thrust plate is secured to the lower end of the stem in engagement with a lowermost surface of the cutterhead. In addition, a friction locking assembly is used on an underlying or protected portion of the cutterhead to center and locate the stem relative thereto.
Abstract: An adapter for connecting a tool head to a fiberglass tool handle or shaft. The adapter includes a cap having greater compressive strength than the handle. The cap fits over the end of the handle to prevent damage during assembly, use or storage of the tool. A pair of adapter sections fit around the cap and the adjacent end of the handle. The adapter sections have recesses which receive the ends of the cap. A pair of pins carried by the adapter sections extend into openings in the handle. The cap also acts as a guide to provide proper alignment of the adapter sections and tool head with respect to the handle.
Abstract: This invention relates to a so-called live anchorage for use in the prestressing of concrete structures, the stressing element being anchored in a hole having a frusto-conical portion and a cylindrical portion by means of a frusto-conical wedge device, the leading or narrow end of said wedge device being such that it extends into said cylindrical portion.
Abstract: The connector includes a flanged clamping ring and an unflanged clamping ring. One ring is received within the other. Tightening screws tighten the connector by drawing the rings together in axial direction. Each ring has an inner and an outer surface. The inner surface of the outer ring and the outer surface of the inner ring are conical surfaces which engage each other when the rings are drawn together in axial direction. The other surface of at least one of the rings is a clamping surface adapted to engage with a clamp action a complementarily configurated surface of a shaft or collar when the rings are drawn together in axial direction. The unflanged ring at the axial end thereof facing towards the flange is provided, intermediate the inner surface of the unflanged ring and the outer surface of the unflanged ring, with an inclined conical intermediate surface.
Abstract: Post-tensioning apparatus for cast concrete comprises dead end and live end anchors adjacent to the casting forms for gripping and post-tensioning reinforcing tendons. A group of dead end anchors are preassembled with a flexible plastic strip, and likewise a group of live end anchors are preassembled with a flexible plastic strip. The strips permit preset spacing of the anchors so that each assembly of anchors can be secured to the associated form with accurate spacing provided for respective dead and live anchors in the setup.
Abstract: An annular member to be fitted around a small-diameter pipe has drawing means and pressing members. The drawing means connect the annular member to a large-diameter pipe, and the pressing members to the small-diameter pipe to thereby connect the small-diameter pipe and the large-diameter pipe together.
